  • Amazing to see the evolution of the RPG from this to Skyrim. You can still see the same mechanics governing the flow of the game. This is truly a great classic!

  • *put not out

  • They need to out this on PSN/XB live

  • I lol'd hard at the guy standing in the deepest region of a cave. Was totally expecting a chest. How long exactly has he been standing there, in pitch black darkness, surrounded by goblins?

  • Why is the game playing out of sync?

  • Takes me back to when I was about two! This is so awesome!!!

  • I'm glad I have this game on PSP now, it's a classic :D

  • I'm playing this game for the first time. I really like it. Very old school and enjoyable. I have a question though. What exactly does the "Seek" function do? I heard it enables you to find secrets, but does that mean you have to select "Seek" on every section of ground you walk on in hopes of finding something? If so, is it for in villages or outside villages, or both? Do you have any tips on good areas to use the "Seek" function? Great walkthrough by the way.

  • @KurtKokaine1

Personally ive never used the seek button in the game as i can recall if it wasnt something about a specific task, so i wouldnt worry about that u aint missing something cause i got through the game :)

  • It was the first RPG I ever played back in 1993 and it is a very good game for a person that didn't play rpgs before . I actually got it brand new and it came with a hint book in 1993.

SOV was developed by a Sega team that was better known for its arcade games such as Outrun at the time.

  • i don't understand why it should be a "crappy game". It looks and sounds good for a genesis game...

  • @Tagorchronic Because the game is old and really shows it's age much like other rpgs like Ultima's 1-5, almost every Wizardry game, Rouge, Telengaurd, Wasteland, Fountain of dreams, ect. Nothing more, nothing less besides I personally don't give a shit what a bunch of kids spoon fed on water down RPGs like Dragon age 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion and such think is a good rpg.

  • whack a mole combat doesnt look right, they should av use a turn-base system like final fantasy or 1st person turn-base combat they av for dragonquests n old phantasy star games, the whack your enemies makes it look shit.

  • Am I the only one who had to constantly restart because my saved games kept getting messed up? If not can anyone else tell me what they did? I don't know if switching games is the problem.

  • The music kicks ass.

  • Just download the sega genesis emulator (fusion) and the game, it's free to play it again, thats what I do

  • Thanks for the Walk. I remember always playing this and Phantasy Star II everyday till I finished them. The Boss battles were so memorable in this game along with the music. Good Job!

  • Awesome game one of my favorites...

  • I remember I used both slash and return slash of the sword, killing monsters twice as fast, not getting hit myself very often. I was a little nerdy game pro. :D

    Loved that game.

  • one of the best games ever...

  • Kicking my self in the ass for getting rid of my Sega system i really miss this game

i had the book for it and use to play it all the time.

  • Great Video! brings back fond memory's , I think I will have too play Sword of Vermillion again!

  • what Game system is this game on?

  • @HubbyHair Sword of Vermillion is for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive

it was the first game I bought for the system :)

  • I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy-like games, as they are like a choose-your-own-adventure book. Vermillion, on the other hand, allows you to move around and hack things without having to resort to crappy attack menus, and allows more freedom of movement.

Vermillion seems vaguely familiar. If anyone remembers a pre-Windows'95 game that relied on icons (.ico) for images and characters, you might agree that Castle of the Winds is rather similar (though very simple) to Vermillion.

  • etched in my mind this game the music was good kept playing rpgs to this day be good if they remade it

  • @MrDaznsarah I Agree!

  • I got this game on the ps2 sega genises collection i wish iwould have played it wen i was a kid so that i can play the orignal version unfortunatly i was not born lol.

  • No, "bade" is right...it's the transitive form of the word "bid". It's sort of that medieval speak.

  • this was the second game i bought while saving up my lunch money when i was younger. Just watching this is making me want to buy this game again. i just happan to look for another game and saw this pop up. Brings back alot of memories.

  • its like playing a nes game again or attari

  • This is probably my favorite Sega game i'm playing it right now.

  • how do you kill them so fast..or what do you do?

  • wow thanks man me and my brother are going to bust out the sega and finally beat this damn game thanks to you lol.BTW THIS IS ACLASSIC

  • You don't seem to be encountering many enemies. On the Genesis version you'd have to face enemies with every 3 steps you take, seemingly.

  • Old school this game was fun.

  • lol i forgot the candle and went into cave XD

  • excelente juego! es uno de los que mas me han gustado en toda mi vida

  • The first town's music, sounds kinda similar to one of the music in the Funimation ver. of DBZ.

  • I still have my genesis but I don't use it anymore because I can't find any games for it plus it was given to me by my uncle and he only had sports games like Foreman for Real and PGA Golf lol

  • Stupid dark sword....

  • One of my favorite games. Brings back many memories.

  • nice walkthrough.. and that music is dramatic.

  • Damn fine soundtrack.

  • am massed up on this game i can beat all these monster but i cant beat that litte girl who turns in to a monster lol

  • YEA!!!

I never finished this game... now i get to watch it played!

    Thanks ultratree85!

  • ill find out and get back to ya

  • the sound goes off by about 2 secongds aroind 3:14. this happen to anyone else?

  • So then is main hero your only party member? If not I'm getting this game on VC.

  • yes. he's the only one (just like how most Zelda games have link as the single hero)

  • i have the psp and ps21 version of sega genesis collection when i played this game i thought it was awesome and there r diff.stuff from ther psp and ps2 version and thats th old unlockable games u can play

  • I played and I like but... T_T never finishes it!!!!

  • I really hated that you needed to TAKE items from chest after you found them. When I was looking for the treasure of Troy I found it after trekking about for hours in that cave(and yes I ran out of candles) and when I returned to the king I still did not have the treasure as I had not TAKEN it! Good game though.

  • yeah i kinda thought that sucked too, also the seek function was pretty much useless - i only found stuff after being told to look for it (ie rafael's stick and the mirror). apart from that the game was good for it's time. i only finished it about 4 days ago.

  • Ahh this is one of the first games I ever played XD This, shining force and suikoden are some of the best RPG's of my childhood<3

  • Thanks! I bought this game in Japan in the early 90's while stationed there in the military. I have not been able to play the game because it is japanese version and I cannot read the kanji text. Thanks to your post I will now play this game. Thanks a lot!

  • You're welcome! Sword of Vermilion is a classic!

  • The town music theme sounds like music in DBZ, and it sounds familiar.

  • Sword of Vermilion is on the Sega Genesis Collection game on Playstation 2 and it's my first time playing it but when I had a Genesis when I was in third grade I've never got a chance to play this RPG game but since then I'm into the RPG gaming and doing good at them well.

  • i have the ps2 version as well. the one with altered beast, the 3 golden axes etc. good purchase i reckon.

  • I love the music of this game/ Thank you/

  • You're welcome! I really like the music, too!

  • Great game. Played it back in -91. Would have been fun to see the complete SoV-map in one picture. Is that possible?

  • I'm glad you like the walkthrough. :) Thanks for watching. :)

  • i loved this game wen i first played it wen i was like 7 in 1996, it so awesome every1 says this was a bad game but i liked it, the story is reasonable, and the tasks r good, and its not confusin like rpgs like oblivion haha, its good game, they shud make a ds remake, with better graphics, not fully 3d remake thoe cos they wud mess it up, acutaly they shud make a remake for the wii haha usin the wii remote that wud b totaly cool :P xxxxxx

  • I agree, the story and tasks are interesting, and the game is really cool!

  • Love it. Cannot wait to see the rest.

  • Thanks for watching! :) Sword of Vermilion is a really cool game, and I'm going to enjoy playing through again and doing walkthrough videos for it, too!

  • Good stuff. I'm interested in the next part of this.

  • Thanks! :) I've uploaded the next few parts up to part 6, and I'm going to make videos for the whole game. :)
