@tug135 This is great news. Thank you for comming back to me. I assume this Routman is fully restored. It sounds great. Do you have an email address? I would like to find out a little more about the vehicle with the view of running a future article. Thanks,
Fantastic. I love the gear change at 1:10. At this point, the 680 really does come into its own tune. Reminds me when I use to drive mk2 Leyland Nationals with the 680 engine. Is the gearbox a sliding mesh? It looked as if you were double declutching.
I remember my Father 1st Scammell had dirty pictures in only 1 or 2. All my father's friends were on the same job years ago in the 80's & 90's with all their Scammell's & then after the Scammell , the Maggie's took over after the Scammell finished.
That's an awfully slow revs die down during the gearchange. Do you not use the exhaust brake on up-shifts, to slow the engine down, for a faster gearchange?
@ssshspotter old 1960's and 1970's trucks were not generally fitted with exhaust brakes. My old 1975 Leyland Bison had the same Leyland 680 engine as this truck, and was also not fitted with such a device.
@Karsiyaka02 hi there thanks for the comments glad you like them will hopefully post more soon as summer comes then we can get these old girls back out again and sing some fine tunes with the 680
I love the sound of your diesel engine, I have an austrian Steyr 680 Diesel Offroad Truck from Austrian Wehrmacht, also sounds very very nice, please
listen to it, type
Steyr 680 M Geländefahrt
Steyr A 680 GL offroad 001

did they ever make a 4 wheel scammell tractor unit with the 680 engine? I've only seen them with gardners or rolls royce
