@fyadcorp RPM does not "go up" as load increases. RPM (engine speed) = frequency of electrical output. As electrical output frequency has to remain at 50Hz or 60Hz depending on where in the world you might be, the engine must always remain at or as close as possible to 1500/1800 RPM. Fuel consumption will increase with load but as stated RPM does not "go up".
I was a generator tech for Cummins and I agree, you can't imagine the heat that comes from it, or the UN-insulated stacks or turbos or even the cold in that room in the winter. So much air moves through that radiator it's like being in 30mph wind with 20 degree air for a four hour load test. Then to respect staying away from the engine, esp at full load and esp the right side. If a 1500 hp engine decides to throw a rod at full horsepower I don't have t explain the rest, and I've seen it happen!

@Pigeon1888 I guess I was thinking of diesel-electric locomotives
fyadcorp 3 weeks ago
@vacuumboy69 No it runs at 1800rpm constantly, so that the frequency of the electrical output is 60Hz.
There is no change in speed other than very slight speed biasing when sychronising with the grid or other generator sets.

we run these on our frac pump trucks...you haven't heard ANYTHING til you've heard/ felt 14 of these in a row, 4th gear rolling...truly impressive

You would not believe the amount of testing that goes into making sure that the engine doesnt fall on its face when its 100% block loaded.

WWWWOOOOOWWWWWWW, listen to the turbos sing when it gets on load. is it a quad turbo??. thanks for posting. great video
bobbj77 8 months ago
turn those lights out and watch those turbos glow. one thing cummins wont do is fall on its face during a 100% block load
metalmaniac333 8 months ago
One thing people watching this clip can't appreciate is the heat emitting from the engine.

Cummins is the best out there.. they'll always handle block loading.
