Oh wow! I didn't know about this version AT ALL. He sounds like a very interesting Herod! Go Alice! (the funny thing is that my name is Alice too, but I'm a girl XD)
@EvanConnellyNovacek It's the bible as though it were told from Judas' point of view, the one and only Rock Opera. If you don't like it, then don't listen. Whether or not it's Christian isn't really the point. It's designed to be an interpretation, nothing more. It's the same with Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice; bible from the Devil's point of view. Each to their own, it doesn't have to be Christian to be a catchy song.
Oh Great!!!! Just when I get finished with nightmare reduction therapy (2 years and VERY expensive) then I have to see THIS!!!!!! Here we go again!!! Thanks for sharing! Alice Cooper rules all!!!
Dang, gotta get this record, the original recording is also nice, but i'll always apreciate a nod to metalheads, and Alice as King Herod is just EPIC.
@mrpikm Yeah I know, he just sort of left the song with an abrupt "screw Jesus" message. I know he's Christian, but it feels like this song didn't have a proper conclusion.
@jacktherussiann Sarcasm? If not, it's a play about Jesus' his final days. This song is from the play and it is sung in the show by King Herod. Alice Cooper was cast as King Herod in 1996 and this is his performance of the song.
How incredibly ironic for people use their invisible mind which can not be seen or touched to vehemetly argue the human mind does exist and they have one. Followed by, a feeble argument that God doesn't exist because they can not see, feel or touch him. Eventually they fall victim to the epitome of ignorance and comment on a book they never bothered to read, the Holy Bible.
@waketheoblivious I've read the bible. All of it. I was brought up to be Christian.........But in the end I am a scientist and a historian. Both knowledge bases lead me to conclude that God, as it is understood by certainly all the abrahamic faiths as well as all ancient polythiestic religions, is a falacy.
July 7, 09 the Piltdown Pope personally delivered an ecclesiastic letter to the G8 Conference, directing they gather the Nations of the earth & appoint a single Moral authority as Dictator (Anti-Christ). Press opted to cover MJ funeral. Vatican affirmation of evolution, heralded an outward invitation to heal the division, is a twisted EVIL DENUNCIATION OF GOD & THE HOLY BIBLE. Satanists/Atheists rec'd invitation to the Catholic Church (obtuse Christianity) they can't refuse
If you read the Holy Bible then you are familiar with the Old Testament/Torah.
Torah
First 2 books count 5+2 and circle
Last 2 books count 7-2 and circle
Middle book count 7 and circle
Each Hebrew character circled, totalling thousands, will spell Torah, the Middle Book over and over. The test is repeatable, verifiable & can not be duplicted by a modern author using a word processing. You didn't read the Bible, like so many you even lie about having read it.
Piltdown Man Hoax (1913-53) was a manufactured "missing link" to by pass schoolboard objection to teaching science fiction as fact. After 40 years of teaching fraud as fact the images were immediately removed from texts and replaced by a series of more diabolical frauds presented as the "missing link. In the history of Evolution it has never provided a legitimate missing link, just a Hoax sustained by a series of Satanic frauds.
And I very much have read the bible. Both the old and new testaments. I find it an interesting read. It certainly offers an interesting historical insight into humanity. With a objective eye you can see how it's been used to manipulate the masses over the centuries.
For the record I do not discount the possibility of a God or even Gods. I just see the Bible for what it is. A written moral code to live by that has been manipulated over the years.
The book you supposedly read discusses hundreds of prophecies fortold OT/NT that were all fulfilled hundreds to thousands of years later. Arguably the most perfectly translated text in the history of man. The Bible provides an accurate account of world history, including the final prophecies of Revelations, and last to be fulfilled. What was hidden in Jerimiah's cave 486BC?1978 that cave was discovered 20' below the site of the Crucifixion. Biblicly, what signs warn of end of days?
@waketheoblivious Generally? I recall passages such as the seven seals, the 144000 and the beast of the sea and the beast of the earth, however it has been some time since I read revelation. Assist me though by telling me exactly where you think we are along the road to armageddon? Because frankly there have been people believing the end is nigh for about the last 2000 years. I will of course read any passage you believe I should pay special attention to for the sake of this discussion.
The religous symbolism within Revelations can be understood by drawing from each of the 3 major mono theist Holy Books. Holy Torah, Holy Bible and Holy Quran each provide a piece to the puzzle. The Bible as you well know is studied as it is read, which is why one finds themself having to reread sections and an awareness of who currently is twisting the words of what was written. Pscott90, you have surprised me and changed my opinion regarding your commitment to the Truth.....cont.
What the Bible says to me is not nearly as important as what it says to you. The answers you receive will be shared with you individually.
Plato defined Wisdom, as "a condition of the soul" that has an affinity with that which it is familiar, becoming drunk when in it's presence. Consider the following in the context of Platos brilliant definition. "Would a wise man question the Wisdom of God?"
Responses range from a simple no, to oblivious epistiles of ignorance.
Plato subtlely capitalized Wisdom to denote divine Wisdom. Could Plato have provided his brilliant definition without having experienced God's Holy Spirit? Defining question is an extremely loaded. Divine Wisdom is attained by receiving the Holy Spirit which serves as absolute confirmation of God. The gift & promise which Jesus Christ urgently returned to Heaven to fulfill was to ask the Father to send His Holy Spirit in His name. Available to anyone with the courage to take a leap of faith.
You have a general recollection of what was written. For your sake and the sake of those you care about, update your recollection to make it specific. Your statement is correct about people believing the end is njgh for the last 2000 years. Don't let those who cried wolf lull you into the Satanic Lullaby aka the conscious choice to remain ignorant. Stay committed to the Truth, it shall indeed set you free. All the best, May God Bless you and yours.
@waketheoblivious My rejection of the bible does not neccesarily mean a rejection of God. I believe that there are many possibilities in this universe about its nature. A God, or even Gods being just a selection. I even consider modern theories in physics, that are generally becoming considered highly likely if not fact, to be still possibly false. Humanity has of course been wrong before (considering the world to be the centre of the universe for many centuries rings a bell) ...cont.
@waketheoblivious Of course I realise I did say rejection at the beginning there. That is of course the wrong word. I believe the Bible contains many things that are worth learning from and from a historical stand point it is a fascinating text. However looking back at the whole of human endeavour for the last two thousand years it can be seen that too often the book has been used as an excuse for mans violence and greed. This you may say is no reason for me to denounce it, just mans failings.
@waketheoblivious and this is true. However it is also a text that I know from history to be incomplete. The council of Nicaea is an event in particular that comes to mind where the bible and christianity as a whole was looked upon via comittee....now colour me cynical but I take any religious text with a pinch of salt when it has been altered to suit the needs of men. It was at this time Paganism and Christianity became shared.
Prophecy such as what is contained within revelations... cont....
@waketheoblivious Equally I consider to be potentially warped, but equally I believe that even if the prophets could in fact see what is to come then there was a good chance they could not understand what they were forseeing.
So as for what I do believe, I believe that the universe is a magnificant place. Filled with wonder and power beyond anything anyone can imagine. For all I know I could be seeing the work of God, but that is not what I feel.
@waketheoblivious Looking at humanity I see a species of miraculous greatness and potential for both good and evil, but equally I see our animalistic instincts that are so much like all the other animals upon this earth. I can sometimes consider how impossible our conciousness seemingly is while seeing it purely as a evoloutionary inevatibility.
In the end I therefore believe in both everything and nothing at the same time.
That is what I consider to be the beginning of enlightenment.
@waketheoblivious To not get transfixed into one way of thinking or one belief has always been imperative to our development as a culture in all realms of science, religion, philosophy, history, art, literature and practically every other subject.
I would of course enjoy the chance to continue the discussion even further, however I believe we have taken far too much room commenting on a video that belongs to neither of us.......so please do send me a private message if you wish to continue.
Alice Cooper actively plays in several charity golf tournaments. As a well known celebrity, he compliments any tournament. He is a gentlemen who plays by gentlemen's rules which call for a commitment to the Truth beyond any devotion to a particular vocation. Alice Cooper should not be underestimated as a golfer. He is an honorable man who plays by the rules which proves he has respect for the truth. Cooper knows Pro Golf doesn't allow Mulligans, nor does God intend to change the rules.
I meant to suggest he is a practicing conservative Christian now. There is interview with him where he says at some point in adult life he became born again even though he was brought up a church goer. I brought it up because I just found out he sang King Herod's song.
@STRUTTER777U I didn't really want to comment but I think he is a Republican that campaigned for John Kerry in 2004 and was one of most celebrities who didn't like George W Bush. But it's true that he's a born-again christian conservative and that JCS influenced him in rock and roll Christianity.
I used to play this all the time on the album (yes, I am old enough to remember owning lots of vynial records, all the way to having a 77 rpm setting on the player!) I LOVE this version with Alice. He does a wonderful cover of it. I would love to hear a lot more of the musical with new singers.
is Alice still doing show tunes, cause I'd like to hear him do something from "West Side Story".... Get it? He did that on his "School's Out" album, sort of. That's a reference for old tyme Alice fans, from way back in the day...
@FutureElphie88 Not true. Cooper has never played the role of Herod onstage in any production of JCS. He was askled about the recording. He did it as a favour to Tim Rice. He said the guy singing the part for this recording wasn't working out or something. When asked if he would ever play the role onstage, he said no. He's used to being onstage for two hours and Her'od's on for five minutes. How do I know this? I got to ask him these questions.
@TriszDaPownAGeNL This song is from 1972 Dave Steward's Ensemble JCS album and - if I know correctly - Axl was 10. Very similar voice, but different guy. Trust me...
this is both a great alice cooper song and the best version of this song to date. alice puts a menacing tone to king herod, while keeping a jazzy feel to it, kudos!!
Further proof that Jesus was the only begotten son of Alice Cooper.

FYI; The shortest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 117. The longest chapter is Psalm 119. The middle Chapter of the Holy Bible is Psalm 118.
594 chapters before and 594 chapters that follow 594+594=1188
Exact middle verse of the Holy Bible is ~ Psalm 118:8 ~
"it is better to trust in the Lord, then put your confidence in man"

@STRUTTER777U “It angers me so much when I realize that people are jumping on some anti-Bush bandwagon." -- Alice Cooper

This is an awesome version, HOWEVER, I like the one with DROP DEAD FRED singing it!

He recorded this because he played King Herod in the 1996 London Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar :-)
FutureElphie88 1 year ago
@FutureElphie88 Not true. Cooper has never played the role of Herod onstage in any production of JCS. He was askled about the recording. He did it as a favour to Tim Rice. He said the guy singing the part for this recording wasn't working out or something. When asked if he would ever play the role onstage, he said no. He's used to being onstage for two hours and Her'od's on for five minutes. How do I know this? I got to ask him these questions.

Alice has made me a fan of the song.

This is the best version I've ever heard - just the right amount of sleazy slimey snaky charm - a truly evil Herod

Strange version but Alice does his best to get through something so outside his comfort zone...he's a trooper and a very nice guy to boot.
