Alguien me puede decir como se llama el tema y el autor (no el nombre quele hayan puesto los Skata sino el real que le puso el autor). Gracias al que responda!!
That's Skully on percussion. I met him outside a studio in Kingston in summer of 2007. He was totally blind and his hair is white, but his spirit was burning brightly and his sense of humour was undimmed. He was an R&B singer in the 50s as part of Bunny and Skully. Also on the same bench chilling out was Earl Morgan of the Heptones and a guy from The Meditations. I just stumbled across them while on a car ride through town. Couldn't believe my luck... such is the magic of Jamaica.
This is Dynamite byTommy McCook and the Supersonics. The line up is as follows: Keyboard: Winston Wright, Guitar: Winston 'BoPee' Bowen, Bass: Jackie Jackson, Drums: Anthony Creary, Sax: Tommy McCook, Trumpet: Bobby Ellis, Trombone: Calvin 'Bubbles' Cameron
Recently I was in Jamaica and saw Tommy's grave in Dovecot cemetary an hour outside Kingston. Bless his funky soul.
this was part of channel 4 deep roots six part series,it is the Late Tommy McCook playing the version or backing track to Hopeton Lewisis Boom -shaka lacka..it was released as the b side of boom shaka laka by trojan records on the dukeReid lable and credited to The Tommy McCook quintet in 1970 hope this helps...this is a pretty damn good recreation of the original..love it!!
Supersonics track, several members feature:Tommy McCook,Herman Maquis(sax),Don Gordon(trombone), Johnny Moore(trumpet, always fidgeting when not playing)& Winston Wright(organ). Winston fully deserves the spotlight (he's responsible for "The Liquidator", plays organ in "The Harder They Come"). Bobby Ellis(trumpet) and Noel"Scully"Simms (percussion) also appear. Others I'm not sure. Original band or not, all legendary players and legendary footage!(ask me for mp3)
Hi Frisop, thanks for the info. When you say Don Gordon, are you sure you don't mean Vin Gordon who is also known as Don Drummond Junior? I recently found on Youtube some black and white footage of the Skatalites in a studio rehearsing or jamming, but I can't remember where it was and haven't been unable to find it again. Its not listed under Skatalites. If you know the footage I mean, please do let me know the name of it. What is it you have on mp3?
hi martian. That's VIN"Don D Jr "Gordon indeed, sorry about the mistake. I got THIS track on mp3... Don't know about the black/white footage but would love to find it! F
The song is called "Dynamite",and I think that they´re not Skatalites.I´m not sure, but I think that they´re Tommy McCook & Supersonics, but this recording is more modern that the original recorded in sixties.Someone can help us to clear this confucious?
I would say that it is "Boom Shaka Lacka Boom Boom" (sic). They are recording the backing/instrumental track; the singer will come later. Hope this helps
