  • hi,have a question my friend,I bought Bugera 6262 (combo have effect loop), here is how I connect my cables:

    - guitar goes into Blackstar HT-Dual (using this baby as booster and sometimes using HT distortion instead of amp distortion)

    - boss GT6 (using it only for modulation effects, no amp simulations or anything like that!) this is hooked into amp effect loop

But I have a problem now since I bought Boss RC20xl loop station, how can I connect it so I can use GT6 and loop station on effect loop

  • @kwaker400

Try placing the Loop Station after the GT-6 in the effects loop, should work just fine.

  • BARONESS!!! Excellent video btw =)

  • Man, what a great idea to make a "snake" to run from the amp to the pedalboard. Sheesh, why didn't I think of that before. I bet that will save some setup/teardown time. Thanks!

  • Great idea on the "Instrument Cable Snake" - I've done the same thing to send my Looper into the Effects Loop of my Bass Preamps. All of my effects are Front-Of-Preamp but all non-True Bypass are in a Loop-Master Bypass, and thus my Looper "loops" all of my effected sounds in stereo while maintaining the best possible tone.

  • Man I got a big problem I kinda get this but I don't get how to set pedals up maybe you can help me with this. (It may be something completely different) I use an real old amp head that my great uncle passed down to me and it has an effects loop in it. I also use the boss ns2 which has the send and return connectors too. I use a chorus delay phaser two distortion wah and od as well to get my tones. how should I set these pedals up with the loop ?

  • what are the patch loops for that u talk about in the end? u just use the loop with 2 cords and plug in, right? are they for using the pedal board to plug the diff cords into or what? confused about why u need it and what it does.. thanks.

  • Can i use the fx loop on or between two amps, or would I have to by two copies of my pedals then?

  • thanks. and God bless you too. I'm meeting more and more Christian musicians. In fact watched one answer the call this past year. I would have wrote this man off, but God had another plans. He's an ace guitarist!

  • @Robb9096

Thanks man. I am a Christian; I have no problem publicly announcing that. Just trying to present information that helps other musicians, whether it's technical or (in this case) practical in scope.

I feel that I should add, I don't subscribe to the idea that just because I'm a Christian and I play electric guitar, that I'm supposed to mimic U2's / The Edge's guitar tones/sounds.

  • so this will work with patching channels on a re-issue plexi?

  • @mmoran51

Hi there I have a similar set up to you, the digital sounding choppyness? it's to do with 2 thing one the fact that it's a solid state amp & that mustangs (well mine) doesn't have an effects loop. The sound gets muddy because it's your clean sound getting modified. I personally love the muddy sound, but if it isn't for you try using the inbuilt effects or turning down distortion. I would if you ever start gigging invest in a tube amp, to eliminate this problem.

  • I just put a clean boost in the effects loops for a volume increase. I have the same clean boost in front of my preamps to get more distortion lol. It's amazing how much order matters.

  • 18 feet of cable for an fx loop = NO TREBLE in the signal lol

  • @musichopper I run my Pittbull amp's effect send/output at maximum and I have buffered pedals in my chain. I've got treble for days!

  • very informative. i have a question since you mentioned the muddy sound when adding modulation... in my case, im using a phaser and delay but wish tk ad a little gain, but i get this choppy sound. any suggestions? im using boss delay, mxr phase, boss distortion. fender mustang amp. thanks

  • What was the thing as the end? A pedal pad????

  • OMG never cut with a utility knife towards your fingers, ever :)

  • @rkc5150

I swear I'm going to make a video of myself doing dangerous stuff just to see how many people comment on it.

  • @rkc5150 I'd never use a box cutter to remove cable ties from any insulated cables.Too great is the risk of damaging the cable. Better to use diagonal pliers also known as wire cutters. Trust me I'm an electrician and I do this every day.

  • How can you work your amp's effect switcher pedal into the patcher that you're running to your amp?

  • I love Moog pedals...

  • nice set up

  • If i'm using a sold state marshall mg100hdfx head, would it be possible to run the effects pedals that I'm using through the line that connects the head to the cabinet? leaving nothing between my guitar and the amp?

  • @ptpiano600

NOOOOOOO!!! NEVER run any pedals between your amp and your cabinet!!! You will ruin your pedals, your head, or both!

  • @penguinrock haha i figured something really bad like that would happen.thanks for the reassurance.

  • @penguinrock, @ptpiano600

What Nick actually means is that you should never connect pedals (or anything else except for speakers or dummy loads with a correct impedance (4 ohm, 8 ohm,...) ) to your amplifier output! The output from the amplifier is ment to drive a speaker and is quiet powerful compared to your guitar/pedal output. Driving that power through your FXpedals will for sure ruin and burn them. So don't!

They're both 6.3mm jacks indeed, but don't confuse them, for your own good! ;-)

  • @SeyDav @ptpiano600

Allow me to continue as far as cables are concerned: only an "unshielded" speaker cable shouid be used to connect your amp to your cabinet, and a shielded instrument cable for your guitar, although they can look to be exactly the same. (Speaker cables are typically thicker 12-gauge wire.) I don't have enough space left in this comment to describe in electrical terms why this is important... Would anyone else like to tackle this?

  • Soli Deo Gloria! Nice!

  • Baroness!!!

  • Great video! I LOVE the idea of tying the effects loop cables together. What the hell didn't I think of that???? LOL! Thanks. :)

  • @GregoMorgan, @Koenraad1982, and just about everyone else:

How else are you going to cut the zip ties to get the cables apart if one of them breaks? The zip ties are tied too tight for scissors. Thank you all for expressing so much concern for my well-being. ;)

  • @penguinrock use dikes or side cutters or just point the blade away from your fingers. good video.

  • @TheEternalLeader

Hey dude, my guitar cable is the "unlabeled" one and goes directly to the Patch Pad on the board. From there it goes to my tuner and noise suppressor pedals, and THEN it goes to the red cable, which is run to the amp's input. I hope this helps.

HEY EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN BEGGING ME FOR A VIDEO ON THE PATCH PAD! It is filmed, but I currently can't get internet access at my new house in Seattle. I will find a way to upload it!

  • I think I missed something so can someone help me ? Where does he plug his guitar into ? He said he ran the red cable ( Which he used for his guitar ) into the head's input, then into his pedalboard, does that mean he'll use another cable to go from the board to his guitar or what ?

  • Good video dude!

  • Safety tip: Allways cut away from yourself... :-)

  • @Koenraad1982 and from the cables, he's insane !

  • You know what, I've been running my effects through the effects loop in my amps for years, but I've never thought of zip tying the damn cables.... good tip..

  • whens the patch pad video coming up dude? you explain things very well so eagerly awaiting it. J

  • Im a beginner and have been playing for almost a year now, but i still dont under stand any of these effects and stuff. This equipment seems difficult to use and understand, i wish i new all this technical stuff :(

  • @HarryDude54 dont worry about it man, you got a long way to go

  • @HarryDude54

Effects can add some exciting new dimensions to your sound/style, but there are technical lessons to learn as well as creative. Start small and work your way up. We've all been where you're at.

  • where can i find one of those patch bays in the UK mate? i have a simular size board to you with roughly the same amount of effects and use 4 george L 15ft cables. 2 for fx loop and 2 for amp to board and board to amp. the problem is i have all my pedals flush to the sides of my board so every gig i have to rip say the tuner off to plug my cable in and so on and so forth. so would a patch bay deal with all these problems?

    Jake

  • @jakeyboy2929

As far as getting it in the UK, you should check Guitar Center or contact MKS directly through their website, pedalpad.com. The Patch Pad will help simplify all of those cables running from the board to the amp.

HEY EVERYONE! A demo for the Patch Pad WILL be the next video I make before I move from Tempe, Arizona to Seattle, Washington in July! Look for it soon!

  • @penguinrock thanks for the info mate, do you know of any more patch pads? Jake

  • @penguinrock thanks for the info mate. Found one from UK shop online for £52 delivered. My only concern is that from looking at the diagrams, it looks like the you still have to come out of the last (or first depending how you look at it) pedal in your chain, to your guitar? is this the case? i though youd plug all 4 cables into the patch pad and you were away. Jake

  • @jakeyboy2929

Totally confused by what you're saying here. Just sit tight, and I'll have a video up for the Patch Pad very soon.

  • unless you only have a parallel fx loop

  • Great video....but please get a pair of dikes to cut cable ties and not use a razor knife, ive seen too many people get cut really badly with razors. Accidents happen.

  • @penguinrock ok thanks i really appreciate it im subscribing to your channel right now ;)

  • @penguinrock can you make a quick demo video on the pedal pad patch pad? im very curious to see how it works

  • @spencerrr321

Lately I've been running low on video ideas and and very busy with band stuff (as well as planning for moving to Seattle at the end of the year). A demo video on the MKS Patch Pad would be quick and relatively painless to do...

  • 1:01 HOLY CRAP! CUT AWAY FROM YOU WHEN USING A KNIFE!... I was waiting for you to go RIGHT THROUGH your finger!

  • @clipdan

Yikes! If I did cut my finger, I certainly would not have included it in this video! I was a Boy Scout once. Guess I lost my right to carry my Totin' Chip!

  • im confused... when did you get the fryette version of your amp

  • @runr576

My amp is a 2006 VHT. I simply replaced the nameplate to the Fryette logo by ordering it on their website.

  • Here is great product for any pedal board to supply power to your board and all the connections needed. pedalboardpatch.webs.com/

  • Hey Bro GREAT ViD,,,,,,, I have a Boss RC_20XL and a Helicon Harmony G.... Tips on how to Hook them Up.... help?? I Am a solo Artist and ,,,,,, That It hope you can help./

  • HEY NICK!

Have you checked out the Trailer Trash pedalbords?

They have build in patch bays in the side of the boards, like 5 inputs in the one side and 1 in the other!

    Like your videos btw. so

    god bless

    Oscar ;)

  • @sahlertz8

I've heard the name Trailer Trash tossed around a few times on YouTube and on various gear forums, but I just checked them out... All I can say is, WOW! Especially those glow-top boards, they look sweet and seem like they can carry way more than my Pedal Pad!

  • @penguinrock Yeah.. i was close to get a Pedal Pad or even a pedaltrain..

but then i saw, i think it was Jamey Ice from Green River Ordinance's board witch i thought was awesome then i checked it out, and now i'm scratching my wallet to get a Trailer board,. they are a bit pricy, but i'm sure it's worth it! ;)

  • @penguinrock

Hey Nick! I'd just like to know if you checked out ISP's Noise Decimator before purchasing the more expensive "G"? Only cuz I need something. If I can save $100 bucks, than I won't bother with the more expensive "G Decimator." What can you tell me? Thank you, Terence

  • @penguinrock thank you for your videos! your one of the only people on youtube who i can stand to listen to. all your videos are great and you need to make more. your videos have been very helpful. i own a boss dd-20 because of you and thank you for that. im also saving up for the same pedalboard as you and well for the same cables you use. thank you again and please post up more vids soon Thanks!

  • @AdamInked

Thank you for the compliment! It makes this whole thing worthwhile! God has blessed me with a unique opportunity to share my nerdcore knowledge, and I'm always amazed at the responses I get in return!

  • Can you explain a bit more on how you connect your tuner/ ISP before the effects loop? I like this idea but I couldn't really see how you set up the patch pad.

    Thanks

  • @crazygtrider

The patch bay has a single "input/output" (bottom two jacks), and two full loops (right and left sides) for routing. I plug the guitar directly into the bay's input/output. The signal goes to the tuner and first section of the ISP, then back to the patch bay (right side loop), which routes directly to the amp input. The amp effects loop is wired with the patch bay (left side loop).

Geez, I might have to make a video to make sense of what I just said.

  • @penguinrock Yea I kind of get what you are saying but a video would help a lot better :) I tried to work out how to do it from a picture of the pedal pad on the net but my brain pretty much exploded trying to work it all out.

  • I love that Baroness starts playing. I thought my Zune Player started up! hahaha. Great vid though!

  • @KomradeKarebear

I was wondering if someone would notice! I love Baroness and that section of the song ("Rays On Pinion" from the Red Album for anyone else who wants to know) seemed to fit well.

  • @penguinrock I love Baroness. Seen them live with Mastodon and Between the Buried and Me. Fantastic live shows between all 3 bands. One of my favourites though for sure.

I also really love the tone you get from that amp, btw. I like to rely on a single channel clean amp and pedals for gain though.

  • @KomradeKarebear

I've seen BTBAM, I've yet to see Mastodon and Baroness.

Thanks for the compliment on the tone. (You must have watched my other videos, then?) The Pittbull isn't the best for EXTREME metal nor Fender-esque spanky cleans, but it's PERFECT for everything else in between. Super versatile. I took it to a shop to get tubes replaced/biased and the guys told me, "If that thing had any more channels, it would be a Swiss army knife."

  • @penguinrock Yeah, I checked out some of your other videos. I'm always looking at pedalboard crap. I'm a gear nerd. haha. And I liked your plant waves/george l's video.

I really just want a bad cat. haha Life would be set. Of course an older (1990ish) Matamp Green amp would be solid too. haha My 5150 combo does well though.

  • Nice vid! (and gear while we're at it) Are all the pedals in the fx loop?

  • @CrAzYbassist1013

My tuner and the "first half" of my noise reduction pedal run before the amp. It's an ISP Decimator G String (the more expensive version) which actually has two inputs and outputs. The first input output section is just for tracking the guitar. Everything else is in the effects loop.

  • Cool man! :)
