  • I loved this episode. I love this SHOW, which was already being shown on the tube after school when I was a kid. Then, it re-appeared as part of the late-Saturday-night CREATURE FEATURES when I was eighteen or so. I haven't seen them in a long time, and never got to see all of them. One of my faves is the little girl staying with her cruel Grandma but kindly loving Grandpa. He dies, and then haunts the SHIT out of Granny while protecting the little girl. Absolutely CHARMING story for kids.

  • I enjoyed the episode. John Newland was the host of "One Step Beyond".

  • Actor Oscar Beregi played the priest and played a general on Hogans Heros

  • Was thrilled when I came across this old series. Loved it as a kid. Reggie had a face that would scare any 8 yr old lol. How these get posted is beyond me but whomever is doing it, thanks a bunch.

  • Notice Morton Stevens wonderful, eerie music throughout--scored predominantly for low speaking instruments: cello, tympani and wonderful bassoon melody.

This show made a big impression on me as a growing boy, and I now realize how much of a part the music played.

  • Demons scared of the water? How convenient.

  • I always liked that creepy organ music such as the one Morton Stevens has composed for The Return of Andrew Bentley. The sound I refer to is when the organist plays this weird sounding out of this world, spine chillin' music when the Black Magician is sitting at the organ and getting it on right before he kicks the bucket. Perhaps that's the reason why I enjoyed Black Sabbath/Black Sabbath when it first came out in 1969. I get off on the Devil's Interlude, the diminished Tritone. MMMmmmmm. YEAH!

  • All of these folks were popular character actors in the '60s. People like Oscar Beregi, Ken Renard and Antoinette Bower worked regularly on TV shows like "Have Gun Will Travel," "Twilight Zone" and 'Bonanza."

Beregi is going against type here. He was usually the evil German guy or a nazi.

Interesting that you need about 50 minutes to show the content of this 60 minute show. Today, you'd need far less I think (more commercials).

Thanks for sharing this great old show, hwy61media.

  • @PhiloYT1 You're welcome and thank you for all of the background information.

  • @PhiloYT1 What you said about these actors is correct. One missing detail is that two of these actors had guest star roles in the original Star Trek series. Reggie Nalder was the Andorian ambassador in "Journey To Babel". Look Nalder up on Wikipedia. He had a great career. Antoinette Bower was in the episode "Catspaw". In that show, SHE used magic! She used a wand, & changed herself into a black cat. One of my favorite episodes.

  • @PhiloYT1 But that's exactly the problem - this story could've and SHOULD'VE been 30 minutes. It was unbearably padded, like most of the "Thriller" episodes were. Highly overrated series.

  • Creepy, and that Bentley guy, that actor was born to play the undead.

  • You're right. This was very well done.

  • This adaptation of the story by August W. Derleth is actually a vast improvement on the actual short story! It's strange and cool, how some weird tales work so much better in this visual medium than on the printed page.

  • Yes, it so often seems to work the opposite way. Thanks for commenting.

  • I will if I can find some. Thanks for watching.

  • These parts are so mixed up you can't find them.and when you do you loose interest in watching. Thanks anyway.

  • Twisted ending. LUV all these things.

  • Thanks, I thought it was great!

  • Ain't these antiques great. I think script writers were more creative back then, also the public demanded quality entertainment in those days.

  • @Jackalman99 Agreed!!

  • I have been a fan of Boris Karloff's Thriller since I was a kid of 9 years old in 1960. John Newland (the host of One Step Beyond) and the lovely, prim and proper Antoinette Bower render a hair raising tale here. With the help of the amazing Reggie Nalder as Andrew Bentley (the ghost). Nalder later played the fearsome vampire Kurt Barlow in the TV movie Salems Lot in 1979. oooooh!, get me outta here!

  • Good to meet a Karloff fan. Movies are a great way to walk on the wild side safely :)

  • I KNEW that was Barlow. You see that face once and you never forget it. Thanks for the reference. How much fun is this!?

  • @snoroof58 The very first episode I have seen from The Thriller was Mr. George. I was only seven years old and I liked it from the start. It was only many, many years later that I was to relish this magnificent show once again. Amen.

  • Thanks for posting, great show & good story!

  • You're welcome. I think this episode was particularly well done.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for watching and commenting.
