@sdotbell L never hit mainstream level. He ripped up the underground and the streets. He never signed with Roc-A-Fella Records. He was due to that week when he got shot . Big L is known for his raw underground street music. Even though he toured before he got killed it doesn't mean he went mainstream. If he hit mainstream trust me people would know Big L like Biggie. L had what it took to make that top position in hip hop. I doubt very much there will be another rapper as ill as him.

Big L is by far the most underrated rapper of all time. Definitely needs a lot more respect. Also look into immortal technique. One of my favorite rappers who i think is very underrated

the problem i have with L, is, although his one of the best punchline, wordplay rappers,

his limited to one particular style, yes there are exceptions but for the most part its street tales, battle rap, punchline bravado stuff,

dudes like chino xl in my opinion are just as nice with punches, but also has alot of deeper tracks too
