I downloaded backtrack 5 on my Windows Vista and after i downloaded it, it automatically made my operating system Linux, now i can't even use Windows. How can i uninstall backtrack, linux, and restore/make windows my operating system again?
If you have any relatives or friends with Vista you could go to them and create a repair disk. Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> Back up and restore. And click on create a system repair disk (it'll be on the left side of the window). Just make sure that the person's OS is 32 bit (or 64 bit) just like yours.
If no one you know uses Vista try Microsoft's website and just download and burn it onto a disk using Linux.
Thank you very much! It worked great. I just went and deleted Ubuntu off my C drive and freed up another 8GB of space. I should also thank Easy BCD courtesy of Neosmart Technologies!!!
YOU ARE A GENIUS, IT WORKS PERFECTLY ON WINDOWS 7, only that the new version of EasyBCD (2.1) have a diferent configuration (for the ones who dont find the option of write MBR, its on the menu BCD Deployment).
Ubuntu made me incapable of accessing Windows Vista, it was BLUE SCREEN AFTER BLUE SCREEN, of course I haven't seen the video, so let's see what happens. :D
@Flaviochief42 For ME, windows sucks bad. It is slowing down with normal usage. I properly maintian it and do everything else but it slows down. Ubuntu, however running perfectly without little tweaking (Only very very basic changes). Windows has failed me every chance I gave it to do something I wanted. Now I know that Ubuntu may not be for everyone but just outright saying it sucks is what angers me as it is not only arrogant but lacks backing.
This is a .exe file. I do not have any computer program other than ubuntu. I want to get rid of it and have vista so I can play games with my boyfriend.
I don't have a CD so I'm pretty much screwed. I've been trying to get rid of Ubuntu for about a week now. Would it be smart to say I'm fucked?
Thank you so much. I use Ubuntu...and vista.....I knew about the partition. But the boot loader trick I didnt worked well. Good video...... I didnt know how to pull that off, Ive tried 5 different ways to pull this off. Thank you. Just ran out of room, from not partitoning the install, wisely enough...... I added some new software,Keep it up, thanks again...
this appears to have worked beautifully, I did it a few days ago and things are working well. I tried every conceivable Ubuntu /Linux group on the web and got a lot of advice that simply did not work...this did and it was SOOOO easy
Thank you. That helped a lot as I had a corrupted version of Ubuntu that was basically just taking up space on my drive and wasn't working. This really helped
Would the EasyBCD part work if i installed Ubuntu with Wubi (the Windows Installer way)? I haven't done it yet, but I can't allocate enough partition space for Ubuntu the old fashioned way so i was thinking of doing it with Wubi. I don't know if Ubuntu will be right for me, so i'm not doing anything if it's not completely reversible.
Worked perfect. After restoring the win7 MBR, I did restart to make sure I wouldn't have any problems from removing the ubuntu partition. Thanks for this! Now onto virtual machines!
I can I say, I love you man! or gal, any who, I reinstalled Ubuntu 10 and after the updates it would not send me to the desktop but to a sortta DOS command screen, asking me for my user name and password, after that I input that info, it wouldn't do anything. SO I got rid of it!
You're awesome! I was able to unintall Ubuntu and GRUB and reclaim my hard drive space in two minutes flat. EasyBCD's user interface has changed a bit since this video was posted, but everything still works just fine. Thanks!
@creamersrealm Ubuntu can be nice if you get along with it and understand it. Sometimes it can be quite playful and at times it can be downright stubborn. It's not for everybody.
I am grateful for this tut, though (nice and simple). I had two versions of Ubuntu on my laptop and one was corrupt. Had to get rid of one. Lost my Vista disk.
I tried removing the kubuntu entry from my boot loader, but it didnt work, even though i had the vista install disk. This is the only tool that actually worked!
Thank you so much for your video. Great explanation; it works 100% with the new easybcd version and windows7. Following exactly those steps it's a charm.
Thankyou for this. I finally got rid of kubuntu. I found that Easy BCD now has version 2.02 and the menus are a little different from your video. Instead of "reinstall windows bootloader" its says "install windows bootloader". Just an FYI.
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU!!!! thank you for this, that stupid ubuntu was taking up 30 gigabytes of my hard drive and i for some reason didn't have a way to uninstall it... THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much for this very easy procedure!!! EasyBCD is now version 2.0.1: bow choose button "bootloader setup" then, in section "MBR configuration option", select radio button "Install the Windows Vista/7 bootloader in the MBR" then ckick button "Write MBR" and that's it for the MBR. The remaining of the procedure remain the same.
ahh, fuckin finally, after an hour of searching how to do this i find this video. beautifully done man, so simple, so easy, and got around to everything we need to know in under 3 mins.
Hey I did everything in the video, but I can't delete the free partition that was once Ubuntu. It just sits there with a green box around it. When I try to delete it to extend into the primary one, it says there isn't enough space on the drive to complete it. Do you know how to fix that?
Worked like a charm. By far the easiest (and least techy/geek speak/nerd work confusing) uninstall I've found, and I have installed and uninstalled Ubuntu and other Linux OS quite a few times. However, after I completed these instructions my computer still asked me to choose between Vista and Ubuntu upon reboot.
I went back into EasyBCD and selected Add/Remove Entries. I selected the Ubuntu entry and then delete. Now it loads Vista as if Ubuntu was never there.
HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA FUCKING UBUNTU IS GONE!!! I GET BACK 80 GIGS THAT UBUNTU HAS WRONGFULLY STOLEN FROM ME YES!!!!!

dude i fucking love u to death right now i onlt had 21gb of space left for win 7 and thanks to u its all fixed and runs faster than ever for some odd reason!!!!!!
Thanx dude. I installed Linux Mint from my usb stick (for reasons I don't quite understand myself...) Mint can be pretty cool though, but not if you already have windows vista. I mean, there isn't much you can do: normal games won't run, you have to use open office instead of micrsoft office etc. And the standard themes look worse, and the GUI mods are almost impossible to install... By the way, it starts up slower than a well-optimized vista.
Thanks man, you helped me from that my brother would kill me. He is so natural because he dont want to always type in the microsoft enviorment partition. Thanks dude this really worked.
Hmmm.... I'm using Vista dual booted with Ubunutu. I need to uninstall Ubuntu because it no longer boots up. I'm at disc management and there's literally nothing there except my C and D drive.... but I know Ubuntu exists on my computer because it's still taking up the space I allocated to it and is still visible as an option during boot up, it just doesn't do anything when selected.
Thank you, this helped my discdriveless netbook to get rid of ubuntu, which I found really cool, but how do they want to make people like it, when there is no uninstaller and mbr fixer inside???? especially on netbooks which don't have a drive - and the ones coming with win7 starter even don't have a OS disc!
A shame for this cool ubuntu, which wants to be better than MS.
Hey dude ! Since the 19th of June, your pc is still working ? No problems with GRUB at the boot of your computer ? I would like to delete Ubuntu and I'm afraid if the software (easyBCD) can make a mistake on my pc... Thanks for your answer !
Perfect fix dude. Simple, clearly illustrated, good video/comments and no BS. Thanks, much! Grabbed your link from firefox on the now deceased Linux partition and typing this from the robust, expanded Vista partition. Loads of karma your way.
its still there but wont become one at the green become healthy unknown partition
cant delete , cant do anythink but its free space. btw i dont know how my totaly of hd change frist is 160gb when i buy this com,but now its become 149,05gb i loss 20gb how to get its back
damn i thought getting rid of ubuntu was going to be a nightmare thanx wow ubuntu uninstall quicker than it install know to fill up my 290 gig free space with some other linux THANX
They made it PAID!!!

Even though it says install the vista bootloader, will it work with windows 7? Kinda nervous to try it.

Perfect fix dude. Simple, clearly illustrated, good video/comments and no BS. Thanks, much! Grabbed your link from firefox on the now deceased Linux partition and typing this from the robust, expanded Vista partition. Loads of karma your way.
