  • The reality is that for an iPad to encourage reading, there must be an edition that will not allow any games or Internet application to be installed that would distract from the actual reading experience.

  • I think this is going to transform the way I spread ideas

  • Would be nice to have all my textbooks (and even the ability to highlight and take quick notes) on my iPad. Honestly I think it would be worth it just for the textbooks alone (given that they have the ones that you need!) My physics book alone was 190$, textbooks for 1 year for the avg University student costs roughly 900-1200$ per year. An iPad may be expensive at first, but with this it would pay off if the books were significantly cheaper in the longer run for sure.

  • anyone know what song this is in the intro?

  • @CurtisxJacob To Build A Home - The Cinematic Orchestra

  • i got here be searching 

  • Thats an Ipad !!!

  • DON'T FALL FOR APPLE THERE NOT WHO YOU THINK THEY ARE THEY ARE PATENT TROLLS FIND OUT THE TRUTH BEFORE ITS TO LATE FIGHT BEFORE ITS TO LATE BECAUSE WE DONT WANT PEOPLE LIKE THEM IN CHARGE OF THE MARKET STOP THIS MADNESS COPY AND PASTE IT AND FIND OUT THE TRUTH

  • @Lufty25 Don't fall for Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Motorola, HP, ASUS, Acer, each company is the same, so ... stupid comment, stupid guy.

  • @Lufty25 What truth? They were a failing company back in the 90s and it came back up with innovative ideas, aesthetics, etc. There's nothing wrong with patenting all your ideas, thats how you stay in business. You wanna know patents? That's Microsoft. They owned the monopoly in operating systems for the longest time. The iPad is expensive, yes. But so was the Macbook pro (used to be 2000$), now its down to near 1000, and for the 9 hour battery life and devoted app store its worth it.

  • i can be likely to be distracted tablet (games- facebook). It simply drives me to be lazier and too overwhelming

  • so basically text book for kids? any college txt book or graduate school text book?

  • Call me weird but a book, a pen and a paper helps me study better.

  • i could imagen all those so called textbooks (iPad's) being stolen in my school lol :D

  • The first guy in the video has a mental illness.

You can see it in his eyes. He is a psycho.

  • Textbooks $60

    Ipad + books $650+

  • @MonPandamarium Yeah But iPad Can Be Used Much Different Ways.

  • how will I bump into cute girls and help them pick up their books nowwww????

  • he gear live , i know your readers like free things so check out my video because im giving away a free $15 dollar itunes gift card for subscribing to my chanel! thanks!!

  • what they mean is that buyin 1 iPad is far cheaper than buyin several other books..

however buyin the books on iPad is a seperate thing, that should actually be done by the particular school/university :P

  • i luv Books ..... luv iBooks

  • "The textbooks are outdated"....yah, I am so sick of this f...ing company.

  • "Ugh! I hate Apple so I'm going to say stupid things that are my personal opinion and hope some idiot such as myself likes it!"

Shut up Android Fans. Your just all upset because Apple came up with this before ANDROID

  • Between we already have e-textbooks technology for iPad (as softwares)

From Inkling, Kno, Chegg, Vook, Flatworld Knowledge, and Cengage Learning

  • I'm sure it will be a good educational tool. For now, it can be an unbelievably great supplement to textbooks but I'm not sure it can replace it with a device like iPad. iPad could be distracting, tiresome to the eyes, and a little finicky to take notes on (But I think a paper and pen can come in handy for this)

  • this ad succesfully convinced me. I think i need an ipad too :D

  • Aí está a solução para a educação de crianças Índigo e Cristal!!!

  • I find this funny, considering that no students at Lexington High School have these textbooks, and only a small percent have online textbooks at all...

  • @CaptainWheatley This video wasn't even posted a month ago, so it's pretty new technology. Give it a few years.

  • This is great

    technology wins again

  • @mrdexter86 Hi, How did you measure the winning side?

  • i am in 8th grade and i think this will make learing fun and i think its a great idea. once again apple you have done it again!

  • Well this is a great idea however i dont think this will ever catch on, i mean dont get me wrong i like apple but dosent apple realize kids are destructive and tend to destroy and vandilize anything that belongs to a school district? epsecially middle schoolers(middle schoolers can be real animals) just look how most kids these days treat their texts books, they put grafitti, rocket penises and treat there books like shit, just imagine what would happen to the ipads in the hands of immature kids :P

  • @TheFishyNach0 Simple.. If the kid destroys the iPad then the parents will take responsibility and they will pay the value of the iPad !!

Also they can buy one of these Otterbox cases that protects iPads from heavy drops and violence...

Also they can punish the kid who destroys anything !! Like books.. if the kid destroys them or doesn't bring them then he will get punished and banished from school ;) !!

  • Why couldn't they release this across all platforms?

  • if i had these textbooks i wouldn't learn at all i would just play around with it lol

  • Brilliant as cocaine.

  • Also good point chancy, its not the fact that it's an apple product why people seem to dislike them, its the fact that they flaunt their features around like they're the only ones that do it, lulz

  • Bloody iSheep. If they released it like Google products across all platforms, this would be great but this is just a means for them to shove ipads down everyone's throats. Notice how they don't talk about price? Think textbooks are expensive right now? Wait till you're at the mercy of Apple and the publishers. lol.

  • @chancy319 Actually, what makes you think Google, Amazon, and so forth are just going to lay back and let Apple steal the show? Not all high school textbooks are mcgraw hill or pearson, I'm pretty sure they're on it. And these electronic book files are not expensive by far. They are as little as 15.00 dollars!

  • Where is this magical land where everyone could afford an ipad?

  • Sooooo, it's an ebook. iBooks is just an apple hype branded name for "ebooks" which has been around for quite some time in case the iSheep don't know. Not to mention you would be at the mercy of whatever Apple and the publishers dictate as price. Added to the fact that you can't resell or lend your book once you're done with it.

  • Great job Apple. I'm going to email this video to the superintendent of my school and hopefully she will consider this idea.

  • @wuebker04

    It's a bad idea

  • should I get I pad 3 or MacBook pro

  • "Because we think this is going to help us manipulate all students to buy our shit."

  • @DonHacko96 No money? Loser!

  • Excellent! Apple.

  • AS A STUDENT. THIS WONT WORK KIDS WILL BE TO DISTRACTED.APLLE HAS GOT IT ALL WRONG!!

  • @360dupont You can't even spell apple.

  • @360dupont If your a student, you need to work on the spelling...

  • @Hellstrom03 you're*

  • @Luvisaccharine Ha! Well i guess you can spell then!

  • Been looking at interactive text books for years. Kno tablets had the concept for awhile.

    /watch?v=uL-2Egqc1qc

I reckon the ipad version is missing 3 things. handwritten notes, stylus, maybe dual screen.

  • Love the idea, but i think theres a downside.. What about our precious eyes, after staring a couple of years to an ipad?

Apple owns a patent about some hybrid lcd/e-ink screen. Lets hope this is soon reality because long term lcd reading just isnt right.

  • This the pace to future...way to go apple..g

  • and, apple know's how to advertise ))

  • Future is here !!!!

  • @JustAbe1020 they tried that at my school but we were able to get on a proxy server to get around it. Depending on the knowledge level of the students, this could be problem. We used to only be able to get the to "school approved" sites. Either way, I'm pretty sure I would have paid more attention with the iPad then I did with my bland books that offered very little pictures and trying to imagine historical facts never panned out right for me. This is a sweet idea.

  • This is bad. Really bad. As a student, I would prefer my important source of information on a hard copy.

  • @Listentothebeat1000 If you'd prefer to have an expensive, heavy, outdated resource, I can assure you that students in colleges all over America would love to sell you their textbooks for the price they paid.

  • GREAT JOB APPLE.. GREAT JOB!! YOU HAVE ONCE AGAIN CREATED SOMETHING REVOLUTIONARY FOR OTHERS AND NOT PRAFIT COGRAULATIONS

  • I reckon the fella in the shirt, tie & jacket is related to Chris Pirillo ... even got the same voice!

  • @LondonFeller which one?

  • @a4senal101

    at 1.00

  • Does anyone else notice that these new books are just .... websites? What has apple actually created that is new?

  • @jmottram08

These are stand alone products, Apps, you do not have to be connected to the internet to use.

  • Mater Dei High school in California already started this last year...

  • This seems like it would be very useful. However, it is pretty frustrating to always hear from my friends living in the States (albeit jokingly) rubbing it in that new features like this have been added to their Apple products...while as a Canadian I am always forced to wait. For example, Siri still doesn't have Canadian place searching capabilities.

  • I am a student at Lexington High, and i strongly believe that ipads are a horrible idea, and i strongly discourage all schools from buying them. Spending money does not equal learning. 3/4 of students at my school play games whenever their teacher isn't looking, myself included. This is not learning. Learning is when a kid WANTS to listen to his teacher. It is when he or she is enthralled with gaining knowledge. School right now is not learning, it is memorization. This needs to change.

  • OMG. I could name off those people in the video. I go to LHS!

  • haha my school is in this video. we feel special lol

  • It seems like a big trojan horse to me... welcome to 1984... now even knowledge belongs to those greedy corporations.

  • Yeah, the idea is good. But don't forget that not everyone can afford an iPad... And if this will happen in couple of years, everyone will have damaged eyes because of staring at iPad's screen all the time...

  • And with the iPad 3 the books will look so much better !

  • Do you know what is the music used in this movie?

  • What is the music in this AD?

  • android

  • Damn I wish I could turn back the hands of time. Where was this when I was in school. Oh well at least my kids will enjoy. Once again great job apple

  • Was anyone else creeped out by all those kids staring vacuously at the camera towards the end of the video?

  • I am 6th grader student and i think Apple idea for textbooks on iPad is an food idea

  • ... So could you also publish fiction stories on there as well?

  • so... is apple going to give students a REAL discount??? or what...

  • Thanks Apple! cant wait to get my ipad :/........ oh wait I go to a poor public school

  • Hey we can always donate all the books to other countries. I take back my comment on students wanting to learn because of the tech. They will prolly just browse the web or youtube like I am doing in class right now. 5:04 translation.."students won't learn with textbooks because they suck and we need to find a way to get them lazy bitches to learn"

  • @MrShuroth Um, you can easily just censor it. Block the internet so it will only be used for school. No games.

  • My books aren't 30 pounds. That's a bit of a lie. This is sweet technology. I can see thefts on the rise in school. I think this will actually help kids want to study more. No more pen and paper crap for taking notes. I am a republican and I approve this message @makeitso6174 Don't judge all of us.

  • Congratulations, iBooks 2. You're the new Twilight Sparkle.

  • Great Video Thumbs Up for all who don't see why tech is so advance and we still use textbooks

  • I've always wanted this. Always wanted to work with a light touch screen instead of a heavy textbook. Amazing...

  • 1 dislike? sounds like someone still waiting for the android version of this xD

  • This sounded cool untill I heard its exclusive to apple products. My whole family uses Android and Google services, my Dad bought me my 2 brothers sister and my mom Samsung Galaxy tabs 10.1 versions so I don't care what my school says I will still be in class front & center with my Galaxy tab 10.1 I refuse to use an inferior product. I may be young but I am loyal. Google has brought me and my family together and made our lives so much easier and for that I thank them & will forever be a Googler

  • This is fucking INCREDIBLE. However, our children are going to be stupendously distracted with all of this technology around us and not realize the reality of the world, nature, the stars, the trees, the birds....it's revolutionary but also has its downsides.

  • @JustAbe1020

psh, the ipad's hd screen has better resolution than reality >_>"

kidding I kinda agree with you ^_^

  • @cologist lol. The ipad is ILL. But, yeah, glad you understand my point!

  • @JustAbe1020 dude... they'll notice it. I'm the foremost engaged with all modern technology in my district and I'm actually a vegetarian for how much I appreciate nature. Not trying to hate on your top comment, just being realistic.

  • @makeitso6174 Appreciate your response but realistically, have you seen the younger generation of the United States lately? You've got to admit, they literally, GLUE themselves in front of 55 inch television sets for hours, stare at their phones texting, and browse the web/facebook/youtube stupendously. This is NOT good. This is not how children are to spend their god-damn childhood. I'm 20 and saying this, lmao. I am glad that you notice it and appreciate the nature that surrounds you!

  • @JustAbe1020 That's why they have parents. :o)

  • 0:14

    she-male???

    I'm just saying

  • Only watched this for Jukebox the Ghost at 4:04 :P I like having separate textbooks I can hold...

  • and if you jailbreak it, you can add a mathematical keyboard so you can take notes for your math classes.

  • yea, every kid will have an expensive ass ipad instead of textbooks, talk about easy target for mugging..

  • 1 person is a republican

  • @makeitso6174 fuck you faggot my dad was a republican

  • @0megasonic then he took an arrow to the knee

  • Wow I would definently use this virtual textbook. The online textbooks I'm currently use cost just as much as a physical copy for a code mandatory for assignments and they just suck I end up buying a used physical copy, this would save me money in the long run.

  • *MIXED EMOTIONS for TEXTBOOKS on iOS*

Sounds like a nice idea. I hope Apple can get cheaper and better quality textbooks to their endusers without just charging the same amount for digital content.

Amazon #Kindle tried to do this. Now their prices are as spendy as #iBooks. #KNO (an app on iOS5) is trying to do this as well; but with limited textbook availability.

_What seems to be the issue is that there is money in education and people want to exploit this as much as possible._

  • I wish I cud go to school now :D :D

  • WOW
