Later L. Welk shows utilized dubbing for almost all vocals and eventually for some instrumental solos. What was really sad was when the performer got lost and forgot their place in the song or coughed and yet the song still came through. Got to do what you got to do for the show must go on.
A little more than a year after this, she would enter the stratosphere with her mega-hit "Never Promised You a Rose Garden". Didn't she come back again and sing that on the Welk show? I vaguely remember that.
@mrbobevans ... please don't make that statement (or comparison) in front of anyone. They'll think you're absolutely crazy. Look at Lynn Anderson's career in contrast to Ava Barber's .. that should tell you all you need to know. As for beauty, PLEASE, not to be mean, but Ava Barber wasn't even remotely pretty. Lynn Anderson was gorgeous.
Ava was not a raving beautify the way, say Ralna was (or Lynn Anderson), but after they updated her look, gave her a more attractive hairstyle (the long, stringy hair pulled straight back did nothing for her), she was much more attractive. The one thing about Ava, she was over six feet tall...you remember at the end of each show Welk always danced during the closing theme with a different female cast member, but since Ava was a whole head taller than he was, he never danced with her!
Why is he a JACKASS for stating fact? She is lipsyncing. Do you see a mic in front of her anywhere? All later performances from her after 1970 were almost always live. Unfortunately, Lawrence Welk never allowed live performances on his show and insisted that everything be pre-recorded.

Her lips aren't synched to the sound. Is this a YOUTube artifact or did Lawrence Welk use dubbing?

You may be right. But I still Anna's version of this song more Lynn Anderson's. Check her's out and you will agree with me.

You can almost make out the words when she sings it.
Leroy Van Dyke was way too fast for that.

I like Anna's version better.

Welk insisted everything on the show be pre-recorded -- even Arthur Duncan's taps. It's still a remarkable performance.
