It's very difficult to sing this song in a cathedral especially with such basic sound equipment. They are accompanied solely by a piano, listen to their album version. It will leave you speechless.
It would be much easier to sing this with good equipment in an auditorium setting.

The a capella section near the end is spot-on; harmonies are very difficult, and extremely well executed.

I agree-- the song is supposed to be reverent and peaceful, the shrieking is a bit too much.
