  • I still don't know how this wasn't a goal.....

  • what grounds did they rule it no goal? even if they called ovi for interference, which they didnt, it would still be a goal as there was no goalie interference and no caps touched the puck on the delayed whistle

  • @decidiousrex

    Amen

  • shut up pierre

  • Hall gill a fait se quil avait a faire ( rien!!!!!!!!) grand flan moue

  • ovy try doing that when gill is looking i was watching one game and ovy hit gill and totally failed, he hit gill and flopped over gill didnt even move.

  • @ebman3 thats y they say keep ur head on a swivel when 8's on the ice cuz he got rocked like shit on that one

  • pierre mcguire was just looking at his puddle of jizz and saying OH MY GOODNESS

  • th4ts how its done

  • this guy is an android. lmao

  • Gill had the puck at his skates and by the rules that is possession.

  • AWESOME!

  • It's funny because even I can hammer Hal Gill when he's not paying attention to what's happening behind him.

  • Ovechkin got iron shoulders.

  • its a goal becuz it was rite under price and no one put it in and it was still possible to save it becuz..... WAIT i thought goalies were supposed to hav very quick reaction and price could hav seen that puck and miracoulusly saved it by covering it with his blocker and holding it in his glove

  • i think gill deserves that because he is pretty big and HE can hammer anyone he wants i just like to see HIM get hammered for once thumbs up if you agree

  • lol how ironic i got here from ovechkin hammering SINDEY crosby XD

  • that just shows you the power of Ovechkin you dont see Crosby doing that to people and thats why Ovechkins number one

  • nice goal

  • should have been a goal! it was originally called a goal so what overturned it? the pucks in his feet its a clean hit and gill knocks the puck in the net and the ref calls it a goal? why was it waived off? no penalty was called on ovechkin. whats the problem? NHL refs are the worst in all sports and that includes the nfl! Refs can win games for a team so easy in the nhl its a joke

  • vitun ryssä

  • Ovechkin was flying:}

  • @TheBrainflakes god your a hater that was clean powerfull hockey bro....Sidney is a little bitch... skilled sure but a little bitch

  • omg was it ruled a goal? lemme know

  • @AlphaCrosby - the nhl wants more goals per game , and they ruled it , NO GOAL!

  • @trisnor1 Yeah totally should have been a good goal.

  • mcguire has ovechkin's cock so far up his ass its not even funny. what a fucking idiot.

you can clearly see gill has his weight backwards before the hit

  • Cant push a player into a goaltender to score a goal. The fact that Gill had the puck or not is irrelevent. Pierre Maguire is a dumbass. nuclear eruption?wow

  • @SPB282008 how was that a conversation genius? You said one thing and he replied once, and so did I. Oh and you're probably too blind to see that I said "at first", also known as "before the replay" or "when everybody was around the net and you couldn't see shit from the initial camera".

  • @SPB282008 What team do you watch? Probably Phoenix or Atlanta, and they don't boo cause the place is so fucking dead and that they don't even care about hockey... Lol and as long as you haven't seen the replay you can't tell if it's dirty or not. I saw interference at first...... and yes I'm a habs fan but I know my hockey faggg

  • Best non given goal in history!

  • @SPB282008 uhummm no. all nhl fans do that no matter if its in flordia if one of there guys gets nailed they boo u would have to watch hockey to know that

  • HOLY SHIT dude lmao he destroyed him!!!

  • good goal.

  • Gay Montreal fans booing!

  • In one respect, this goal is cheap. In another respect, Hal Gill got owned. Well, let's just say shit happens.

  • shoulder to chest... gill hit the goalie. shoud havebeen a goal. refs blew the last game. the league doesnt want its face to be ovechkin so it sucks crosby's dick 24/7. Halak was amazing in that series though, and montreals blocked shots just got damn annoying. caps need to pull through next year, 20 years of this bullshit.

  • THats awesome that Ovechkin has to jump off his skates to hit people? Isnt that a penalty? Oh I forgot, he's Alexander Ovechkin. Of course it isnt a penalty?

  • @jhopp1234 He never jumped you dumb bitch

  • @jhopp1234 He didn't jump. Watch the second view.

  • Disallowed goal, whatevs.

  • wait so was this a goal or not?

  • wicked

  • Wow it was a clean hit gill blows

  • unreal

  • ovechkin is my like 3rd fav player thats only cuz im from detroit otherwise hes the best

  • 1) nO ONE LOVES oVECKIN

    2) Everyone loves the Habs

    3) Cheap Shot

  • @NykeeDoodle lol,1) everyone loves ovechkin, he's the most exciting player in the NHL to watch

2)only habs fans like the habs, you're hated by everyone else, get over yourself

    3) you're only saying that because it was a hab that got dropped

  • @amgartsh9 lol ture except number 3... i hate cheapshots, if the habs cheapshoted someone i would be angry too

  • @NykeeDoodle

im from montreal... and i hate the habs.. surtout quand je vois les criss de médias essayé de ternir la réputation de ovechkin .

  • @KingXanthar thats cool your from montreal... i live in Calgary... i love the habs, you don't need too love your hometown team.

  • @KingXanthar Je suis a partir de Calgary, J'aime le Habs!

  • @KingXanthar and i agree, i dont like the media trashing peoples career, Ovechkin is one of the greatest players ever, theres just something about him that bugs me

  • @NykeeDoodle, hahah "no one loves ovechkin". Yeah right, it's like saying everybody loves crosby

  • fucking cheapshot

  • that was not a goal they called it a no goal

  • hahaha good for gill

  • I have to say, this play made a hardcore penguins fan into an Ovechkin respecter. Hal Gill is an enormous human being and to have the balls (and grit) to just nail him like that in a pursuit to score demonstrates how much Ovie loves hockey.

I still think Crosby is better though :P.

  • hossko22

I fucking your country and you too, you stuppid kid!!

  • ovechkin is noob

  • Fuck you! alex da man!

  • All good arguments from everybody who believes this should not have been a goal. Now, I want all those who argue why this should not have been a goal to search out and watch "Flyers @ Capitals 4/22/08 Game 7" and view the goal 2:30 into the video and explain to me why that goal was allowed to stand. At the time the NHL explained that it was a puck battle and the d-man lost it and his actions afterwards did not impact the goal, which I agreed with at the time. Explain the difference please.

  • Hal Gill will never be the same >:)

  • :o

    Ha ha

Ovie is the best man ever played this game on the planet earth

  • Fucking Russians.

  • god, Pierre McGuire once again proves he knows nothing about how hockey is played and can only name stats, useless back stories, and crawl up star players bum holes.

You can't hit someone into the net to get the puck in

Everyone wondering about the rule. --if this was the case every time the puck was in the crease forwards would just push defensemen into the net to knock the goalie in---actually think and u'll understand

I can't believe mcgurie is going to calling the Olympic games

    So Sad

  • hahahah couldnt agree more, cant stand him

  • Good hit should have been a goal

  • All those claiming this is covered in the official NHL rules please provide a reference to this......the only references I have found so far clearly state that this should have been a goal. Rule reference please..........

  • @alcoraces Have you never heard of goalie interference? You cannot push a player into the goalie..Ovie is a just a big moronic, brainless ape

  • Oh I know what goaltender interference is.....I've been officiating for 18 years and I teach and I train......I'm asking for a rule reference is all.....can you find me one that describes what took place in this one? Lots are saying it's there.....I can't find it. Help me out ok? A battle for the puck was won by Ovechkin and he won the battle, just because Hal Gill lost it and fell into his own goaltender should not have negated this goal.

  • @alcoraces A battle for the puck? Ovie blatantly drove into Hal Gill and smashed him into Price...That is goalie interference, there is no way around that

  • if you've be officiating for 18 years you'll know that very few game instances are actually described in the rule book. Trying buying the case book if you're looking for what to do in every instance.

--If the puck was at the top of the crease would you let a foreward come in from the blue line and knock the D into the goalie???

Same thing here only its from farther out

  • Of course not, that would be charging. There was no rule infraction on this play, he won a battle for the puck and knocked the defenceman down, legally and the goal should have stood. Still waiting for rule references.........

  • You can't hit a player into the goalie. Its interference. and Ovie came in from the blue line, watch the video again. Gill never saw him there as the puck was in his feet. it wasn't a battle, it was a hit

Nothing wrong with the hit other than you can't check people into the Goalie. I don't know how many times you need to be told

All I have to say is i wouldn't want to be a goalie in any game you ref

  • I'm still waiting for a rule reference.....he hit a player in possession of the puck is all he did, he did not charge at him, he did not hit him nor did he run at him until the puck was at Gill's skates after he had fumbled it....it was a good goal, I am sorry you can't see that, and they blew the call. You can hit a player in possession of the puck, it is called a body check and if that player happens to fall into his own goaltender so be it.... a rule reference would probably shut me up......

  • omg fine i frigin looked it up cuz i actually am an official.

Disallowed Goals: Pushing the goalie into the next with with the puck. rules: 69.9 and 78.5

Also either stop being a ref or protect goalies when players are hit into them or they are

    going to get hurt.

"(ix) When a goalkeeper has been pushed into the net together with the puck. See also 69.6."

  • Thank you.....except he did not push the goaltender into the net with the puck and that rule reference refers to a completely different scenario.....try again.

  • Watch again from 55 seconds onward.......in order for your rule reference to apply that puck would have had to be covered by Price or in his body and then pushed into the net, instead it slides in on it's own and this is why that reference does not apply...I do know the rules, I am merely baiting you but you will not find a reference, I assure you. This was a blown call, sorry, I am all for protecting the goaltenders in accordance with the rules but this was not one of those times.

  • @alcoraces.

Jesus. There is not a specific instance. The rules are there and you have to interpret them. You are not a ref with 18 years experience if i have to explain this to you.

You look at the intent of the rule. And its intent is to prevent the goalie from being knocked into the net with the puck. Whether or not there is an intermediary is irrelevant.

The rule is to PROTECT goalies. And clearly should be interpreted to not allow D to be hit into them.

Its the rule book not the tax code

  • Absolutely the rules are there to protect the goaltenders, no argument. This was not one of those times......the d-man lost the puck to the opposing player and fell into his own goaltender, it was a puck battle and Ovechkin won it. You cannot take that away from a player under the guise of protecting your goaltender just because one player is stronger than the other.....neither one of us is going to change our mind so let's leave it at that deal?

  • rule 69.1 a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player.

the attacking players action of checking the player into the goalie hindered the goalies ability to move freely.

Also Ovechkin made contact with the goaltender so I suppose you could say Table 18 1c An attacking player makes incidental contact with the goalkeeper at the same time a goal is scored. Goal is disallowed. Thats all I can see here

  • he didn't check him into the goalie he was playing the puck.. the puck was between gills feet and he just checked him.

  • im just amazed how he was able to destroy one of the biggest defenseman in the nhl... i dont even care if it's a goal or not that's amazing.

    ovechkin=best ever

  • @Mr765560 best ever = gretzky and some one 230 can esialy nail whatever hall gill is when hes standing still and ovies skating 105669569 mph at him just saying

  • @gakman41 i have no idea wat u said.

  • @scumatron how dont u.....

  • @Mr765560 biggest doesnt mean he knows how to skate..... even george laraque had more skating skills then him lol, Gill's only a fucking tall POS good with PK units.

  • @alcoraces You are making it sound as if it is Hal Gills fault LOL...I mean if players are able to just smash other players into the opposing goalies then why even have GOALIE INTERFERENCE...And you officiate? WOW thats all I have to say....Maybe ppl are right when they say the NHL is corrupt with officiating...Good thing you dont ref the NHL

  • why wasn't that a goal? The puck was a Gills feet and Ovie just nuclear erupted on him. Not anyone's fault that Gill is 10 foot 5 and landed on the goalie. Shoulda been a goal, nice first save by Price though.

And if anyone was playing the Pierre Mguire drinking game they'd be f'n drunk after only 1 min of Pierre speaking. :P

  • You cant push players into the goaltender, its interference. Ovi pushed Gill into Price, so it was interference.

Thats the way I saw it, and apparently thats the way the officials saw it.

  • how the hell does pierre mcguire still have a job? hes such an idiot

    OMG You're so fuckin' gansta!

Really, just stfu if you don't have anything intelligent to say.

  • This should not be a goal, pretty obvious it only went in because of the hit, intent is irrelevant when its that obvious.

  • I think its still a goal... the puck was at Gill's feet... Ovechkin's allowed to hit him as long as he's making a play for the puck. Anybody know if it actually counted?

  • @jafac they reviewed it and it was waived off, claiming Ovi pushed Gill into Price

  • Did not count

  • Hairy scary berserk Swedes gonna whip yer ass ! !!!

  • the capitals don't own the pens. the caps have no goaltending. Wait til it becomes a playoff atmosphere. My guess, Caps out first round. Fo real.

  • if seymon varlmov comes back from injury they might have a chance

  • Россия Чемпион добавляй меня в друзья

Russia Champions of Vancouver 2010 Hockey

  • LOL at Pierre McGuire surprised he didn't mention Hal Gills long stick like he did at the 08 trade deadline

  • ivand87a has Syndey check anyone this season? i guess you can see the decline in your team from last year too...Caps > Pens now today not last year but today

  • shoulda been a damn goal

  • That's a goal

  • Ovechkin ALWAYS does cheap shots like this....causing goalie interference so that he can score more easily. The ref was right to disallow the goal!

  • Clear goal..that should be counted.

  • Ovechkin is a god. He leveled that pylon!!!

  • @thegertkenator

yes he is. were you just listening to the underground by any chance???

  • It's not "OFFSIDES"! There is no 'S' and there is only one of them. Why do so many Americans say offsides?? It's not a hockey term. And this call was the worst call I have seen all year, maybe the slashing call on Sunday on Jeff Schultz when the guy's stick broke on its own.....but this is a good goal, I am so pissed off it was disallowed. There is no explanation that can explain that, everything about this goal is legal and all a hockey play, and I'm stunned...that's a good goal! Brutal!

  • Bumping a defenseman into the goaltender, preventing the goalie from being able to make a save, is interfering with the goalie indirectly. IT'S IN THE RULEBOOK. And I've seen this a number of times.

This is textbook indirect interference, giving the refs to waive off the goal without giving Ovechkin a penalty. Perfect call. Refs got it 100% correct. Stop crying and learn the rules.

  • not a bandwagoner. been watching caps since their first season. used to watch them when tom pyatt's dad played for them. (tom pyatt scored his first NHL goal for habs tonite.) explain how it's interference when puck is in gill's skates at moment ovie hits him.

  • It's not an interference penalty. No one's claiming it is. But it's in the rules that the refs can waive off the goal simply because Ovechkin bumped a player into the goaltender. Whether he did it on purpose or not doesn't matter. It's indirect interference with the goalie and the refs are allowed by the rules to waive off the goal without giving OV a penalty.

  • Uh...no. Allow me to disprove everything you just said.

    A) Since the puck was at Gill's feet, and he was attempting to make a play, there can be no interference.

    B) That is not a penalty because of A.

    C) I've been a Caps fan for the better half of two decades and I believe that this call was bullshit. Are you telling me to kill myself?

You've proven yourself to both know nothing about hockey and to be a complete ass hole, an obvious Pens fan.

Kindly remove yourself from the internet.

  • A - The intent is what matters, and the intent by OV was obviously to knock Gill into the goalie. Instead of trying to find the puck and score. That's indirect interference on the goalie, which by the rules gives the refs the right to waive off the goal without giving OV the penalty.

So you're completely wrong, and you either don't know shit about hockey or you're just a total homer if you don't realize the right call was made here. You lose. Like the Caps. 6-2. Ha! Thanks for our 3 Cups BTW :D

  • No. His intent was to rock the shit out of Hal Gill, not to purposely hit Gill into the goaltender. You guys think that OV does these premeditated malicious acts. It's getting quite old, that some people think he deliberately goes out on the ice to injure people, or to cheat and try to knock an opposing player into their own goalie. The goal shouldve counted because

  • Ovechkin laid a clean hit on an unsuspecting player and the puck ended up in the net. You can disallow the goal, but saying that Ovi somehow knew what he was doing is fucking retarded.

  • Gee, wasn't Gill right in front of Price in the crease? Why didn't OV try to find the puck instead? Did you see how he launched himself at Gill? I got no problem with the hit if Gill doesn't end up taking out Price.

As I said the intent doesn't matter, but it's absolutely fair to think that he did this on purpose to try to prevent Price from finding the puck. He wanted to score and he likes to hit, and this was a good opportunity because the puck was right by Gill's skates.

  • Actually let me correct myself... The intent actually does not matter in this case. If you hit a player into his own goalie, preventing the goalie from making the save, the goal is waived off and no one gets a penalty. So no offense but you're wrong.

So I'm guessing the OV hit on Gleason and Gonchar and all the runs he's taken at Malkin away from the puck weren't premeditated? Please. OV has never denied that he doesn't hit to hurt - it's not against the rules and that's how he likes to play.

  • woulda been easier 2 swallow if refs had not just allowed a habs goal which was indisputably offsides. so in space of a couple minutes they blew 2 calls which led to 2-goal difference. which puts it at least a little higher on the grievance scale than the 'other 9000 incidents.' plus, caps lost a game 7 to flyers on exact same play. back then it was ruled legal. but in the long run, who cares? caps should have only one objective this year -- the Cup. everything else is beside the point.

  • That goal by the Flyers in Game 7 was completely legit. Didn't see the so-called offside goal but bitching about a close offside call is about as homerish as it gets. Pathetic. Habs beat you fair and square.

  • @ivand87a

Actually it wasn't the game winner...it was one of the goals leading up to the game winner. Morrisson was shoved into Huet which directly led to one of the goals.

And the offisdes wasn't close. The linesmen blatantly missed it.

  • from Puck Daddy blog: As Adam Gretz pointed out, Capitals fans may wonder how the goal could be called off, yet Sami Kapanen's tally during Game 7 series with Flyers in 2008 counted. On the play, Thoresen checked Morrisonn into goaltender Huet, leaving an empty net for Kapanen. The NHL's official explanation on that goal was that "no Philadelphia player makes contact with Washington goaltender Huet (Rule 69). This play is not reviewable."

  • Horrible officiating this game but true it happens to other teams as well. It would have looked a lot better if they gave a penalty out, but without the penalty it just looks ridiculous. The Habs goal off the offsides was also humorous, but at least the caps don't have to worry about maintaining the streak now. It's always nice with less pressure

  • i would like an explanation (aka an apology) from the league/referees on what the reasoning was behind this call. I believe they ruled it a deliberate kick, not an interference since no one received a penalty. I just don't know how that is deliberate kick and the Montreal gola isn't. Great job refs, ending the Caps chance at history.

  • The Caps still would have had to win 3 more to have a chance at history. Anyway.

It was ruled something along the lines of indirect goalie interference, stopping play but not giving Ovie a penalty... which makes no sense whatsoever.

If you want an apology you can get in line behind the people who are sore about the other 9000 incidents of bad calls/missed calls this season. Get over it.

  • Actually that's in the rulebook. The refs can waive off a goal if they feel indirect interference was made by a player by bumping a player onto the goalie. And no penalty is assessed. I've seen this happen a number of times. Learn the rules.

  • @ivand87a

According to your assessment of the rules, the game 7 goal shouldn't have counted. Shaone Morrisonn was bumped into Huet by a Flyer and therefore no goal.

  • Haven't seen the goal... Regardless, sometimes borderline plays happen and it's tough for the refs to make the right call because it's very close. Especially in a Game 7 where players usually get away with more stuff and penalties are rare.

  • When? Because in all the games I've seen with incidents like this, it's never been called before.

Just another example of the inconsistency which is officiating in the NHL...
