@pornofa Which Streets of Rage was influenced by Final Fight, which one of Final Fight's designers said that Final Fight was influenced specifically by Double Dragon II: The Revenge.
@MHMemeDoubleYourFun streets of rage 2,it seems very similar to me, it should be end of the first or second stage... the main enemy in the bar looks different but the bar looks like the on from streets of rage.
After starting this up and not expecting much, I played this for a good two hours. As expected it's a bit clunky and derivative, and the three characters you start with are hardly even worth mentioning, except for the Alex-alike Gear. In it's defense these characters offer a smooth entry learning the subtleties of the fighting which is a fair bit more complex than you'd think. The real kicker to the game is the defeated bosses that join you. Ack, I only have 53 characters remaining in the post.
@BigBangBlitz I assume this game's merit is having two modes: beat 'em up, and versus fighting. I saw it mentioned on a Japanese website dedicated to cult classic fighting games.
The concepts in the game were fun and original like adding one character per level and the backrounds moving as you progress giving more of an effect of forward movement. I read about this game on a MAME site a few years ago and i was hoping someone would emulate it. I had forgotten about it and then i looked it up again today and found out it had been emulated. This game came out in 92 so there really isnt much to be dissapointed in. A sequel to this game would of been fun to see.
Well, it's long time I don't play this game, and I still think it's pretty crap. Especially, I don't like it's flawed gameplay. Also, the hit detection seems a pain, but I must say that Big Fight is not perfectly emulated on Mame actually (there are still various grapich glitches on every stage), then I guess this would be caused by this. And there are most other amusing scrolling beat'em up released on '92; actually i'm playing Mutation Nation and it's enjoying me at well.
@retrofight truth be told the only thing i like about this game is that when you beat the villians they join you. I like the chick with the whip in this game and that's about it.
it's a shame this game didn't come to the US. as for the company which made this, i think only 5 games came from Tatsumi which were licensed to Namco and Data East (these include TX-1, Speed Buggy/Buggy Boy, Lock On, Apache 3 and Super Round Up 5)
and by the time it arrived, it was just too late since most US arcades at the time were either flooded with side-scrolling beat 'em ups, or with one on one brawlers like Street Fighter II
Right. Btw, this game keep some interesting idea, at least for trying to mix scrolling brawler and Versus fighting, but the final result seems at least disappointing. :/
And don't forget in 1993 Shadow Force applyed the same concept with better results.
retrofight how did you get the emulation perfect for big fight with no glitches and 100% framerates? I'm playing it on mame and the music skips and the pixels/sprite parts, with certain moves or when you pick weapons up, aren't in the right spot.
Well, the glitches about sprite parts is stil present on this video actually, while I never haved any audio troubles during my plays. BTW, I didnì't tried yet on recent Mame releases.

I believe the glitches have to do with how well the ROM dumped online.

I've never seen this game before his emulation on MAME. Seems quite rare.
Tbh,after played it few tries, I can say that this title would never become a success for sure.
Too rusty gameplay. :|
