That shurikin-looking object was actually Capcom's old company symbol, I can't remember what it's name is other than it starts with Y, but it also appears in the last jump-puzzle before the boss rush in the first Megaman where it restored all your energy and granted a one up. Guess the programmers were trying to lure experienced players in with a false sense of safety.

the knight head on a stick in level 4 was quite a shock. think that is by far, THE wierdest way to show a 1 up, is by an impaled protagonist head. X( overall, you cooked my lifetime progress on that game real easily. Level 2 part 2 was an annoyance, and I think the "poop attack" is the strongmen merely firing their blast from their arm, but I guess capcom didn't do that well of a job illustrating that.

Yepp this is one of the hardest nes games, i remember it was quite hard when i was playing it as a kid.
