If you want to see the ACTUAL "integrated commercial" that appeared after the end of this episode, search for "Opie throws a tantrum for Jello Vanilla Jello Pudding"- it's an excellent example of how sponsor General Foods often tied in their integrated ads to the evening's plot....
ANDY: {grinning} I thought so! [holds jar up to camera] Try Sanka coffee, in the nice-to-hold new jar. The coffee for folks who LOVE good coffee- OUTSTANDINGLY good coffee! I appreciate it, and good night!
Originally, there was an integrated commercial for Sanka coffee after the last scene- usually tied into the evening's episode. I think it might have been like this:
ANDY: {enjoying a cup of coffee at his jailhouse desk, as Mr. Winkler walks in} Well, howdy, Mr. Winkler! How's Arnold these days?
WINKLER: Oh, he's better behaved now- thanks to you.
ANDY: Well, I can't take ALL the credit! I just pointed out the woodshed, that's all!
At 1:37 Andy says the best thing that most people have forgotten now. "If we don't teach kids to live is socitey today, what's gona happen when they grow up?"
I loved Opie's response at the end when Andy asks him if he thinks Arnold deserves a spanking. He replies, "I don't want to say. After all, he is one of my own kind." Even though Arnold is a spoiled BRAT who deserves to be spanked soundly, Opie won't say anything against him.
@hwy61media - you're right of course. One of the most important things displayed in the show was Andy's loyalty to those close to him. Otherwise, why would he have allowed Barney to remain as deputy - he was totally inept. Andy even gave him the credit for the things he himself did. Barney was a funny character for sure, but he was the worst deputy ever.
@Wiggitywigg323323232 Yeah I think that's what brought dad to his senses finally. "Wow my son would see me in jail to have some bike......and I'm feeding him, clothing him, giving him a home?" Pretty selfish kid.
@mcmgator , I agree he was a Pretty selfish kid but it was the father's fault for giving his son what ever he wanted. I'm guessing the father grew up with not much in his life and well working hard and being a success with lot of money can go to your head if your not carefull especially when you spoil your child.
@Astraldragon1 Yeah you're right, it was totally the father's fault. Give him everything and yeah this is what happens, but yeah I just think this was the turning point. His father didn't realize what a monster he'd created until he witnessed his attitude. "I want my way and if it means someone else suffering because of it then so be it, father, mother, whoever, doesn't matter to me." So dad finally took his desire from him this time. Whining? Das right soften his rump a little lol.
It scared me when i saw arnold's father smile at teh mention of wood shack. Seems to me he will enjoy beating his son. Now that raises an alarm in me. There are alternatives to spanking. My parents have never thought of that and i find myself winding up like them. Angry all the time and yelling at people when im upset. I intened to end that with me and settle with the alternatives with my son when i have one in the future.
When a kid acts like that, a good spanking will prevent them from getting any worse. When I was a tot, I had a number of spanking and I never acted any worse.
this is why i love andy so much...he only spanks when extremely necessary...otherwise he talks and changes your mindset so you dont act that way anymore...this is my favorite vid
when my grandparents were little, they were spanked or whipped, and were sent behind the woodshed, not inside it.

If that crying kid was in the WWE, he'd be a wrestler that gets booed (heel).

Arnold has learned the fine art of abusing someone's love.
He could go far.... Congressman Arnold Winkler, (D) Mayberry.

I love this episode, especially today.
Andy as a Tea Partier.
Arnold and Opie as Democrats.
Arnold's Father as Republican.

ANDY: Say, how 'bout joinin' me in a cup of coffee?
WINKLER: Don't mind if I do! [notices Sanka jar next to cup] Sanka? You drink it, too?
ANDY: Sure! it's the best instant coffee I know. 97% caffein free, easy-handle jar...I like it!
WINKLER: My wife and I enjoy it, too. Calms me down.
ANDY: Tell me....how much MORE are you enjoying it since Arnold's become a good boy?
WINKLER: {chuckling} A lot!

@Hisgraceforme It's kind of ironic. Andy would have taught Opie the value of loyalty!

This may be my favorite episode of The Andy Griffith Show because of the great common sense, down to earth advice he gives Opie.

@airplaneman123 Best father ever. I don't care if he's a fictional character. A lot of people could learn a lesson or 2 from Andy Taylor.
