  • I generated mandelbrot sets on my Atari 8-bit via. a type-in program in Atari Basic from Antic Magazine, as I remember. You could go as far in, and explore any area you wanted. It took FOREVER to generate each image, though it tended to go faster if the area you selected didn't have a lot of the color black in it. It allowed me to save bitmap images to disk. I might still have them, though I have yet to get my disks transferred to images so I can load them up on a modern computer. :)

  • @mmille10 I wrote this program myself, using Turbo Basic XL which had the features missing from plain ol' Atari BASIC. I got the core routine off my Dad who got me interested in fractals (as well as a Channel 4 documentary on Chaos), although being a teenager I didn't understand how to apply Complex numbers to programming.

    And yes, all these pictures took an AGE to render, and it was a pain when I discovered I didn't set the number of iterations high enough, leaving the black holes! :)
