  • Heavens to John Henry! An odd combo: a wonderfully entertaining pop song by the late great Burl Ives & awesome footage of the congested but beautifully intriguing city of Bangkok. But it's quite ENJOYABLE, I must say! THANKS for posting this! :)

  • I sang this for seven years as an entertainer...days gone by. Thank you.

  • The saltest tear ever and yet my pride still mocks me.Take care ADonovan43

  • A real smooth singer. I miss him, he could sing to anyone.

  • another song i like is pearly shells we song it tv once, for a charity some 20 years ago

  • Always like to hear Burl Ives.

Is there some connection between the song

    and the video?

  • @rockgor Yes

  • Isn't that odd....after all these years, it sounds like 'a little bitter tear' let me down. These old ears.

  • What a wonderful musician, highlighting that singing can sound superb without ANY fireworks, flashing lights, 200 stage-hands, etc. etc. Just Burl and his guitar could fill a hall.

Master musician (and actor), his voice of the same luxurious timbre as that of Nat King Cole's.

  • great song

  • This was his biggest hit! What a guy..

  • Amen Grizzabellar!

  • reminds me of the scene w/ Dennis Hooper and Christopher Walken in True Romance in my opinion one the best scenes ever,

  • @ejp42

This song was played when Hopper was walking out and locking the gate at his security job. But yeah, this is a great song.

  • helpame: It's by By Bill Anderson.

  • Bill Anderson wrote the song but Burl Ives did record it in 1962 and it appeared on his "It's Just My Funny Way Of Laughin'" album from that year. The title of the song is "Ninety-Nine". The only CD version of the song that I know of can be found on the Bear Family boxed set "Burl Ives - A Little Bitty Tear - The Nashville Years - 1961 - 1965"
