@jamiepiemusic tubescreamer has a few really good tutorials on the swells. the idea is actually pretty simple. just browse around the vids until you find it. (sorry, I don't know the link off hand)
@kruges41 no, sadly you can't. I'm there's a mod someone could figure out that would allow you to do that, but honestly I've never found it to be a hindrance. one thing that would work though, is running another dl4 in front of the looping one and using the presets in the loop. because just one is never enough. ;)
i know this video is outdated, but i feel like the empty loop thing you did here is unnecessary because you can achieve the same thing by pressing "A" instead of "B" at the end of your desired loop phrase length. after hitting record (or A), you can start playing and once you press "A" again, it'll start the loop over but the trail of what you were playing (as long as you let it trail) will be present in the loop and make it sound smooth.
@abasolo119 the dl4 still has the delay effect available while looping. you can turn it up or down in the mix and change the tempo still. (tap-tempo isn't available while in loop mode though, you need to just change it with the speed knob) but yeah, the delay is still functional. (you also don't have all the other delay effects while in loop mode. i think it's only the analog delay) =]
Isn't it easier to just press record, start playing, and then immediately press overdub at any random moment (depending on how long you want the loop to be)?
Haha All I use is my deville overdrive, tube screamer giga delay and boss tuner and ernie B volume pedal. And I'm set with PERFECT tone. Looks like you need a little more pedals. lol
I have one of these and when I hit the far left and start recording what I want to loop it starts playing it back too soon. Ahh!! It's so annoying. Do you know if this is a setting I have???
Are you using the DL-4's delay while looping as well? If it's possible to use the delay while looping or after looping something can you tell me how? haha or do I need a separate delay pedal for that?
Really the only problem I see with this is if you are using a non-ambient loop or if you are recording multiple parts over a loop it won't start at the beginning if you want to bring that loop back later in the song. Also, if you are playing with a drummer, if the loop starts at the beginning of a measure, you can quickly stop the loop and start it when the part repeats if your drummer falls out of sync with the loop or use the play once feature to restart it at the correct time if the loop do
hi what type/brand of cable do you use to connect your pedals, i started using some and i found that it took away frm the quality of my clean tone, alot.
that really clever ,i love your tone :) what are some more ambient sound bands ? cuz im always trying find music like Misery Signals - Worlds and Dreams
Totally off-topic, and I'm sure you've gotten this before, but how long have you been on YouTube that you were able to get "tubescreamer" as your use name?? :D
And yes, great pad feel and loop technique here:) Hopefully I'll have the money to get a DL4 to try it out in the near future:S
Literally just got a DL-4 today, and searched on YouTube in case of any nice toys. Thanks a lot for this video, it's a rare example of a good advice vid on a pedal.
I was getting the hang of trying to do it properly but it was tough to get my loops perfect, yet this will do the job, such a simple yet brilliant idea. Thanks again man.
@deepblue1963 I think one time I put some hard-core velcro on one of my pedals and then after so long i went to take the pedal off...the velccro was so hard i had to rip it off and the bottom rubber piece went with it....but...if thats the case id just leave it on there untill you accidentally rip it off doing sometihng like what i did haha....cause why rip it off ahead of time?
This is a good tutorial video, and many thanks...I had never thought of doing this..going to experiment a little now on the dl4 with this idea. Just wish the autovolume setting could be looped..Are you using vol pedal for the swells when youre looping like this or is there another effect that 'autoswells' for you, somewhere inline ?
@ianmcgeachy in this vid i'm using the volume knob on my guitar, only because my volume pedal is really squeaky right now. i would rather do it w/ the knob or volume pedal, because i have more control than from an autoswell effect.
It's actually pretty straight forward. ;) I often always do it like this.
Oh, by the way! I'm getting in the TimeLine today or tomorrow so I'll do a demo it! I know you've been interested in it! (I'm having a HUGE setup change again, by the way - really downsizing)
Have you checked out the Strymon Blue Sky Reverb, by the way? :)
@DemoColorScheme yeah man, that would be awesome! i just wish the damage control stuff wasn't so big and weird looking though... :) and yeah i've seen some good stuff about the Strymon reverb pedal and it looks awesome... are you gonna be picking it up? or have you already?

Is it possible to use delay and looper at the same time in DL 4?

You have good clean guitar toe, if you get swelling it's probably stepping on those metal buttons that causes it.

@Otherthings100 Initially, yes. Once you hit the overdub button after you've recorded the silence, it will just start layering.
