  • I like karate a lot but I dislike the way the tournaments go. I don't like how they are stopped after every hit to award the point.

  • What happened to you Goju? you used to be cool man.

Seriously though, I can understand the bouncing around to a degree, but this is excessive and pointless hopping, any good sweep or well timed technique... yeah, whatever, no ones gonna listen anyway. All I'm saying is Goju from what I've seen, looks a lot better, and traditionally have/allow throws, though these days, do not seem to do so.

  • This is Shotokan sparring...... not Goju-Ryu.....

whoever uploaded this video got it wrong.

  • @jernchin87 shotokan & goju fight the same way in tournament

  • this is a ShOTOKAN fight or my name is cacawaka

  • @sciencemunk goju and shotokan fight the same way in tournament

  • @f1ght3r @f1ght3r here you go brotha ... Goju Kumite

youtube: Beautiful Kumite of GojuRyu ~ 鏡開きー高橋秋夫主席師範の組手~

  • @sciencemunk yes that is the way you do it in goju style BUT in tournaments we fight shotokan style

  • @f1ght3r that's a more accurate statement than the title!

  • Its true that seem like Shotokan. But in the WKF there is also Goju ryu, Shito Ryu, And Wado ryu. This 4 karate style in Japan fight in this way ( whit dancing and point). In the Okinawa Karate (Goju ryu an other kind of, Shorin ryu and Uechi ryu) the combat are completly different.

  • why are they fighting shotokan style?

  • thats no goju fighting they fight shotokan style

  • this is not goju ryu. this is shotokan.

  • .....unless of course you are from the U.S.A then I would fully understand your stupid comment .....you guys have FUCKED UP KARATE and GOT EVERYTHING ELSE WRONG that is a traditional form ....6mths ...PPPPFFFFTTTT !!! ..YOU MUST BE AN EXPERT SUNSHINE !!. ....every time a Japanese instructor puts something on here it's always the novices who put shit on them ......."THEY DID" after all "INVENT KARATE" ..........DICKHEADS !!

...OR DO YOU KNOW BETTER ....HMMMNN ??.

  • ......WHAT IS IT WITH YOU NOVICES it best not to make comment on something you quite obviously have NO IDEA about !!....this is a CLUB TOURNAMENT BY A GOJU RYU CLUB IN "JAPAN",the point sparring kumite does not need to show any typical goju techniques, you aim totally for a point ,we all jump and dance around in tournaments you jerk ..best you get 10 yrs or so under your belt before you make IDIOTIC comments like that ........

  • these people are insecure.. its always like that on youtube.

theres just a lot of kids who think theyre tough cuz they watch ufc and pro-wrestling.

i loved how for the longest time people said karate is useless and now machida has turned them all into fan boys.

the masses are fickle and sheep.

  • this has nothing to do with the color...its just blue vs red if im not mistaking , not 100 % sure. but the gloves support my theori and the last shotokan competition had that colors

  • slapnut, they're obviously in a tournament, probably following WKF rules - hence the red and blue.

And yup, the dancing around is not something you'll typically see in a Goju dojo but it is suited for tournament kumite.

    It's def not TKD :)

  • if it was TKD they would be all kicks but this kind of jumping around is called shotokan

  • ya, i trained in chito ryu and there was no dancing at all...everything stayed firm and deep to the ground. this actually looks more like TKD.

  • wow!iDINTknowSOmanyPPLwouldCOMMENT..!!HAHA

  • goju ryu is not for scoring points, or any type of tournament fighting this is why most the moves are aimed at joints, and vulnerable areas like the throat, eyes, knees, groin, there is no dancing around in this style, a solid base is reqd to launch the techniques.

  • I see NO goju training here at all... sadly typical of what to expect from dojo that train the basics and forms one way, and then throw it out the proverbial window when it comes to "point style" kumite. Just my observation of what the majority of today's dojo have become. Not picking on yours specifically.

  • @Uminchuu Tournament kata and kumite is generally different to what is taught for gradings or self defence. These tournaments are just a sport, and therefore the techniques are different to traditional goju ryu.

  • Imagine they face a strong practitioner of kyokushin????

    Respect Goju-ryu system.

  • I totaly agree with you. I'm guessing you have a belt in Goju-ryu?

If Goju-ryu is like rooted in taking your power from strong stance, that would mean less dancing around right?

Thats just what i was taught, no circling, no dancing or anything like that, takes your mind of sparring. i donno. sounds good right?

2nd degree junior black belt. ^^

  • the girl with the red gloves should learn the keep her defense wile kicking especially, if she meets an opponent with the same reach this could get her in big trouble!

  • All I can say is: KEEP YOUR HANDS UP!!!!!!!

  • Typical point tournament sparring.. Whoever dives in leaves themselves the most open, and then kiai's the loudest wins!!!!!!!

  • i agree!

I usually have a height disadvantage when I fight, but I kiai and I'm usually not very agressive. and i always get 1st.

  • indeed _b, until someone ruthless from a full contact style comes in and knocks someone out =__=

  • A full contact fighter would probably lose here due to the rules.

  • i feel you are right...i come from a kickboxing background and i had trouble in point style fighting....but i do it just for fun now....

    peace and blessings

  • ELAINE SI SO FAST

while isabelle height is her advantage only...

  • Might also be ELAINE is a blue belt whilst isabelle is only a red

  • actually the belt in kumite is changed depending on you team you might be a white belt but you might get red or blue

  • Ah you'll have to forgive me i havent been in any tournaments or competitions for 2 reasons one im only a humble Yellow belt:D and two ive hurt myself

  • isabelle's the better
