@miikhailov rofl... you do realize that the higher end graphics cards last a LONG time. my old 8800gt can still run any game on the market. and most of them at max settings. and that card is old as hell. the 5970 is a futureproof card. its like getting 8-16 gigs of ram. no need for all that power, but you wont have to buy shit for a LONG time.
For example: right now 12 GB of DDR3 is expensive, but you have no use for all of it. Instead, get 6GB now would do just fine, and if you'd need to buy more of the same DDR3 ram in the future, well guess what? The prices for 6 additional DDR3 RAM will be cheap as hell because there is going to be new technology.
Instead of getting one the best Intel Core 2 Quads (QX9700), the smart person (me) buys the Q6600, and then gets the new core i7 shit that will outperform for 1/3 the $
@miikhailov actually if you go look on newegg, ddr is MUCH more expensive than ddr3. 2gigs of pc 3200 is 100$!! you can get 4gigs for that price in ddr3. also, the future technology is irrelevant anyway because your motherboard wont be able to support it XD perhaps the video card you could, but like i said if you get a future-proof video card it will last you 4-5 years easily. maybe longer. so you wouldn't need a new one anyway. the only technology that moves that fast is processors.
@miikhailov also amd is the way to go if you want bang for buck. for a good 500 dollars less you get something almost equal in power. the difference is about 10-15%. also the best part about amd is that they dont change sockets every 5 seconds. so if you want to get the newest technology you can usually use the same motherboard you've had for the last 5 years. intel is the best in power, cant lie there, but im not payin 1k for 10-15%
@TheXtremeGamer90 its always better to have the actual physical cards. BUT its MUCH more stable to have it like this. despite the loss in power its usually worth it when your compy isnt crashing every 5 seconds XD
I would recommend a 5970,due to the fact your getting two 5870 on one board which makes it way faster and way better and room to add another 5970 after for a 4 quad crossfire killer machine.
But after seeing a dual crossfire 5870x2 i was very impressed at it's incredable fast and smooth gameplay and pretty close to 1 5970 in price by $100 so I am at a lost for choice.. myself..
I still believe a duaal GPU one board salution is faster and better than two crossfired.. using a different way of gaming performance.
The second card is processing the same thing at the same time giving you a stronger gaming performance but it's a repeat process..( What that does is give you smoother gaming during heavey action) Where as a one card dual GPU each one does half half at the same time..and it seems faster to me but i could be wrong.. But watching them on screen the 5970 wins.
@Dorisequador Because the two GPUs will outdo the one, regardless how well you clock either. It's not highly underclocked, so it will still outdo a single 5870 at its max OC
@GridTec same here. i 1st thought abt getting the gtx 285 2 gb, then changed to the gtx 295. but now i definitely want the ati 5970 .. less power consumption and frees up my x58 mobo. just look up the benchmarks .. overclocking is not set on the 5970 .. future-proof.
yeah its so enticing but the fermi from nvidia just looks like it will destroy when it comes tho... i just dont want to spend a fortune on this and a month later nvidia's dx11 cards come out and put this to shame.
finally a graphics card that can max out crysis, after 2 years of nothing but medium settings at 25 frames per second i can finally buy something worth my time
lol why pay to max crysis with their crappy built game engine not even supporting good hardware. and old crap... this ati 5970 will be rly good but crysis isent even a good game rly sucky campaign ect and many games looks better
The engine is not crap. It's just too advanced to run on today's hardware, or i should say it was. Sure, the story isn't that great but it just shows you what games what most games will be like in a few years for the most part.
You see Nvidia is what you might call a "Company" and companies have this goofy little thing called "Marketing Strategies" and then there's this other little funny event that happens every year, and it's called "Christmas" the Mass of Christ, and during this holy of holiest time, kids get things that they normally wouldn't get.
@1981z28: How dare you say Nvidia will smoke ATI? ATI is 4 video cards above them right now and for the past 2 years. If you are gamer then you will know that ATI/AMD has the best combination of hardware for games. Simple.
I don't even give a fuck about a better performance, oooh 4 fps more, wow!
there's performance, and then there's immersion, I pick Nvidia for the 3D Vision feature, I'm not a fan of Nvidia, I'm a fan of this feature.
If ATI put the feature on their card tomorrow, I'd buy an ATI card in a heartbeat, because yes ATI has the fastest single GPU card right now, so why wouldn't I buy it?
I like both companies, but it doesn't make sense for (ME) if I'm looking for a certain feature, and I buy a card from a company that doesn't have the feature, kind of counter intuitive
and Nvidia's card probably will smoke the 5870 when it's released, that's how it goes, Nvidia smokes ATI, ATI smokes Nvidia. I'm just speaking the truth.
I probably wrote that earlier comment, because I was pissed at people calling me a fanboy, which I'm not, I HATED Nvidia just a year ago... here I'll show you.
I saw the Post, dude. I don't undestand the Point on seeing a youtube video about Cinema 2.0. It has nothing to do with the fact that ATI/AMD has the best result (more than those 4fps you talk about) when it comes to 3D rendering.
okay, I get it, Eyefinity, yes great, immersive, yeah I can agree that it would be more immersive than using one monitor, I'm not TOTALLY ignorant.
BUT, There's nothing like imitating how your brain perceives the world, like how 3D Vision does it. Eyefinity does help with that, as it gives you a sense of having peripheral vision.

Serious now, you really don't know, until you try it.
They should have put the GPU's on the farhtest sides because of heat I think this card is great though but GPU's are way to close.

The 5970 is basically two 5870 GPU put together. ATI turned the Clocks down a tad to keep temps and power needs in play.
BUT if you have the Power Supply to run it full bore it will will beat a pair of 5870's.

fuck ATI, "let's release the best card on the planet only to be replaced 2 weeks later, yes let's be gay." and make people blow their money.
at least when Nvidia releases a card, they beat ATI for a while, and don't have to release another card shortly after, to add insult to the injury.
Nvidia is better anyways, they have 3D Vision, and the GT300 is gonna smoke ATI. :-)

lol, I was just trying show you that I haven't ALWYAS liked Nvidia, and I don't give a shit if an ATI card gets a billion frames per second.
like I said, there's a time for performance, and then a time for immersion.
DEFINITION OF IMMERSION.
state of being deeply engaged or involved; absorption.
I'd rather play a game, and be fully immersed with 3D Vision, and get 60 fps.
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
apparently people don't care about immersion anymore, "fuck immersion, let's play a game at 200 fps, 140 fps more than you can even differentiate"
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
you know, add 3D Vision to an ATI card, and I'll go out and buy a card tomorrow, I have NOTHING against ATI.
They lack something that I (ME) want. no YOU, me, it's personal preference, if you don't want immersion, fine, get the ATI card.
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
