Noticed how KO's happen in TKD,is due to the guys not keeping their hands up. Simple rule in fighting is to NEVER drop your hands or you'll get KTFO.That's probably why TKD guys usually(not always) get KO'd by boxers, Muay Thai guys. Also, do they not teach takedown defense in TKD, like sprawl?I swear I've only been wrestling for one year and I takedown TKD blackbelts like nothing. TKD is only good as a supplementary art, if you already mastered wrestling or boxing. Not a good base martial art.
@TheDoctorPhD you talking about wtf tkd. they keep their hands in the middle because they only have to defend against kicks... and were do kicks come from? they come from the ground, having your hands by your waist/chest allows you to block both body kicks, low kicks and head kicks. They dont have their hands by their face because its point based and they can afford to let the enemy get a hit into their chest area. Fight an ITF tkd master.... guarantee youl get your ass rocked
@TheDoctorPhD its funny, cuz all the people like you that talk shit show u dont know what your talking about because u cant differentiate between real TKD and sport TKD thats based on scoring points... of course the sports tkd practioner is almost always gonna get beat, he is trained to score points, not actually fight. I now do Muay thai and boxing, and hapkido but i started with ITF TKD, and i EASILY defeated other styles
@fullmetal891 When was I talking shit? Learn how to read and comprehend. I just stated an opinion from observations made. Watch the youtube videos of TKD KO's and you can see every person getting knocked out had their hands down to their waist, not the chest asshole. I was actually interested in taking TKD and respected, until I found out ALL TKD practitioners are pussy keyboard warriors.
Every style has its weak points, equally true however is that each style has something to offer. I come from a TKD base I don't think its the best base to start with in MMA, in its current incarnation. But to say it has nothing to offer is equally ignorant. Basically a solid Kickboxer with some wrestling can implement a variety of these techniques into his game watch Josh Burkman fight Mike swick thats just one of many examples. Round house jumping round house.
I went up agianst a BJJ fighter and beat him down. And tae kwon do is very powerful because there are kicks that can break through defenses. and tae kwon do could be used in a cage because sweep kicks are very effective then. I should know me and my friend fought in a cage and i beat with sweeps kicks
u actually have the guts to say that after so so soo many martial artiest uses that raeson to say bjj or wrestling is bulshit then end up losing like shit?
I didn't meen to offend you sir it's just I see posts all the times of people saying tkd is a weak martial arts that couldn't be used in a fight I just get a little touchy on that subjject since I've seen TKD fighters basically take someones head off witth a single kick. And MMA mixed martial arts isn't just cagefighting it just meens you train in mulitiple styles. But oh well sorry if I offended someone.
its ok, i know ppl think shotokan and tkd r weak n styles like muay thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj and judo dominate them n all which is very ignorant, ive seen traditional martial artists destroy athletic martial artists in mma
TKD is strong in its philosophy and so in the inner arts. So as a martial art it is also very strong. But only if you really believe in it and in yourself. TKD is not a martial arts for someone who just wants to fight.
I know everything the people says about Taekwndo... i have just a justification to this... just later TKD have got in Olimpic Games that takes a sports model and all the academies follow this metod.
To know the real taekwondo you need to find something about the traditional TKD...
An actor who pratices that is Scott Adkins (Undersputed 2 and 3) that is most near what is the more traditional TKD...
I actually completely disagree with you that TKD couldn't be used in the cage you guys obviously underestimate taekwondo...but wht you are familiar with is sport taekwondo not traditional tkd. Im a black belt in traditional tkd and I'd spar both of you at the same time and beat you both to a bloody pulp and I suggest dropping the UFC crap...it's just public entertainment I hate UFC fighters they have no honor only a very few do but TKD is just one of the styles I study but it is very powerful.
hes underestimating TKD? ok, maybe he is i agree to that but 1st read wat u have just written, ur underestimating MMA! now chill i dont mean any offense but there r some very disciplined ppl in MMA, n btw... the name of the sport is not "UFC" if ur 1 of those many who think it is, its called MMA, mixed martial arts, there r some very traditional stylists in this sport like lyoto machida, tatsuya kawajiri, katsunori kikuno, the gracies n if u want i can keep going even further with this list...
yep, im still training, i will train for a long time, im still seeking knowledge abt the martial arts, i have a long way to go, i never imagine myself leaving martial arts
i guess u mean stuff like muay thai, karate, judo and brazillian jiu jitsu? let me tell ya sumthin, if a tkd guy fights a muay thai guy u cant say the muay thai guys gonna win bcuz he knows muay thai... it depends whos a better fighter, whos more dedicated to his style and who trains more
lol, ur not gonna believe this, anderson silvas a black belt in tkd, i know ur not gonna believe it when u 1st hear it n i dont blame u, but i saw it on his wiki page, i dont think a high class fighter like him wud choose a "garbage" martial art
hmm... well ive seen tkd dudes n they never keep their hands up they just counter wid kicks, if silva didnt know tkd it wudve been harder for him 2 taunt his opponents like that, lol, but i agree tkd's not for the cage, i do mma but i only did a bit of tkd 2 improve flexibility, it helped me alot in muay thai
if you sreiously think tae kwon do is garbage have a better look.. im not saying tae kwon do is the best martial art in the world but then again its not the martial art fighting.. its the person in the fight and in the end it comes down to who lands the first connection, where you hit , how fast you are, how much power you can generate throughout your body weight and how well you train .. if you dont belive me look up steve terada.
fighting can b done in small places but tkd wud not b so useful in place wid little space, dat is where an intellegent fighter wud use boxing, muay thai elbows n knees, and grappling like judo, catch wrestling, jiu jitsu or bjj.
dude r u in tkd? im in dan2 preparing for national tournament....and im practising poomsae (WTF style) practsing 5 poomsae.....confused by saonalmakhi and ennsonalarmakhi....
ive done a bit of tkd, but not da wtf style, i did it full contact itf style, i now train in kyokushinkaikan, muay thai and judo, im going in2 amateur mma soon
yes it is, but if ur a heavyweight id recomend judo, wrestling, muay thai or japanese kickboxing cuz they have weight divisions. tkd needs a lot of flexibility, u shud b able 2 do a full split as a beginner

half true but when taken down by a mma guy you would have to fight a different game and that is where tkd lacks
it has no ground game
AskHandsomeThomas 2 years ago
but as a martial artist your not going to let yourself be taken down by anyone

He does, and he got it when he was 18, and it is more of a gateway martial art than anything. It seems to be it's only purpose besides flexibility.

i THINK the only diference of the training for a real fight in dojo or on the street is the space.
When u r training u have all space u need, but in the dojo or the street deppending where u r fighting is difficult to use martial ars skills.
can anybody explain to me how fight in a little space?
vinigato789 2 years ago
