Sir, you have no idea how much you've helped me. I've had this laptop for years and just yesterday experienced the blue screen when my computer froze. Thank you very much. I am going to try this now.
@ajjy01 copper mod is not good, do you want to know why? because the computer was built to have nothing more inside than what already has, so adding copper pieces inside of it, its not natural, if u think twice, if u drop ur laptop and it fells right onto that spot it will break the motherboard wouldnt it?
I've tried your method and so far it seems to have worked. Hoping it will take me til next month when the class action lawsuit against Nvidia will be settled at which point I should get a new chip from Nvidia. Dell, the IDIOTS that they are won't replace it cause I'm out of warranty. F**K DELL......they suck and when ever there is a problem, they never seem to know what to do. I hate DELL and I hope they go out of business cause they don't know how to provide customer service. DELL SUCKS!!!
Try my copper shim to lower your gpu temps and keep your laptop from failing. It is only $7 and comes with thermal paste. Search for "M1330 copper shim" on ebay.
I love you man thank you verry much kissses from holland, i have this white screen with black stripes on my screen i have do this and works fine thank you from holland
This may help but it only delays the inevitable. I've already had my mobo replaced under warranty 8-9 months ago and had previously used the well known copper mod with arctic silver and had my GPU running at 50-70 C (MAX) and it STILL failed and now I'm seeing the same signs of premature failure with the replacement mobo after 8-9 months of use. I believe this is much more than high temps. They may speed up failure but the chips themselves seem to be defective.
@phaelenp the chips are damn bad. this will help and has helped mine a lot, the only way to get rid of the issue will b??? to get an nvidia chip that was built from nov 2008 til now.... you can change it in your mobo, but you need to know what u doing
IT prevents your device to overheat, cuz with out the thermal grease, it will literally melt...of course in our modern times, computers turn them self off before that happens....ill make a video how to help your xps to cool illinoisjay, i did it to mine and its as cold as my cousin's macbook pro :)
Hmm I hope it works, Dell won't fix mine, I have to put ice packs under the video card location when ever I use it. I think I will buy HP, when they messed up they fixed my video card (new mb) for free even though it was out of warranty. Wish I did not get this one for a present, would have only bought HP, they fix their problems as it should be if they want customers to come back.
Everyone, be aware this is no longer the case. The extended warranty on this part expired on April 10, 2010. Now dell USA will charge you $199 for an out of warranty repair.
@argoddard that coment was a year ago. there might be still some xps m1330 with warranty since you can extend it up to 5 years with dell. so it was released on 06 or 07 cant remember. so some people may still have a year more. anyways Dell is not what it used to be...
By the way this happend because the video card overheated, causing the video card to die... so a good thermal grease will prevent it or fix it if it just started happening dell is giving good video cards now since the end of 2008, nvidia fixed the problem
it depends, if the damage is way to great, it will not work if it just started happening u may want to do it. and it does prevent it, unless u have the best thermal grease ever dont add to much but if it is cheap then yea, also ill make another video to prevent it like the best way to do it. you have to add a thin copper layer between the video card and the heatsink it helps A LOT better than just thermal grease
