  • Why people are so ignorant? Space shuttle merely jumps a little out of the atmosphere... Not more than say 700km above the surface of the Earth. Sun is almost 150,000,000km from here. And also to actually hit the Sun you'd have to slow down a lot as we speed with the Earth almost 30km/s (for comparison: a bullet speeds at around 0.8km/s, the shuttle in space around 8km/s). I don't think it's a good idea to learn exact numbers and I may actually get them wrong somewhat. But having a rough idea...
