The construction of the Hotel and clock tower has been ins-trusted to the the BINLADEN GROUP / SBG .. they are the one responsible for he design and architecture.. I must admit the shopping 4 story shopping mall inside the complex is a bit much! I am really not sure what impact this will have on Islam as a whole.

You say the Saudis have nothing to do with this? They have everything to do with it since they not only approved it, but payed for it! They could have hired any number of well renowned firms known for pioneering urban development and architecture around the world.
What do they do instead? They approve of a giant version of Big Ben from London to serve as an eyesore to any future pilgrim. It's almost as if they have an inferiority complex; as if they want to try so hard to emulate the West.

@Um4r12 i no. but i think its good in a way because people will get accomodation closer than before perhaps.. obviously people from poorer countries cannot afford expensive accomodations,so they get hotels quiete far away from the masjid because its less cheaper than the hotels close to the masjid. i realised this with someone from pakistan, their accomodation was bout half hour away from the masjid

i dont appeal to the purpose of these buildings. i'm opposed to their shapes.
Here we call the masjid-al Haram "Kabe-i Muazzama" it means "Grand Qaaba" ( i dont know if this word substitute the meaning).
But now, we can see that, these kind of buildings shapes are greater than Qaaba.
i think the solution is gradual elevation for the buildings near the Masjid al Haram.

we dont refer to the prophet as almighty, only Allah is all mighty........ now there's is nothing worng with tall buildings. however it is the purpose for which we use them. thus even a short building might be a bad thing if its purpose is not for the sake Allah. thus if those hotels are used ofr lodging during hajj, there's nothing wrong about that.
