If you do it any other way, it's just not Charlie Brown... and, as you mentioned, it was nearly 45 years ago, and you also have to keep in mind that even though Charles Shultz is dead and gone, his Comic Strip is in syndicated reruns. The Peanuts just connects with us for some reason.
