  • this was more like a clone of hollywoos squares if this show was doing sky high ratings why did abc pull the plug so quickly they could have dumped anthoner show

  • again way too complicated gameplay and too many cheesey celebs.

  • Such a good little game! Damn you Fred Silverman for canceling

  • question:

I thought under the "Kennedy" format if you lost one game you were replaced with another contestant and that during Jack's version the contestants stayed on until the time was called. Can someone please explain to me how two "winners" were competing against each other in the first game?

btw...I miss the old days of "Game Show Network" and wish we could get them back!

  • damn I love this episode

  • lol

  • can somebody tell me what marjoe gortner was known for?

  • @Mega420kid He stared off as a traveling evangelist, and was the subject of an Academy Award-winning documentary.

  • @disneyfan81 thanx.i've seen him all over the tv as a kid,but never knew what for.appreciate the info.

  • Epic intro!.........

  • Tom Kennedy and every one of the panelists had way more class than any of today's reality stars (i.e. Bachelor, The Hills, etc)

  • You know, mtiller2006 uploaded the same exact episode on his channel (as well as the series premiere). But I prefer this upload better. Better sound and picture quality. (Sorry, mtiller.)

  • A great show. Use a lot of ABC celebrities. This was probably the last show that Bob Crane made an appearance on before his death.

It was an elaborate set they used with very bright lights. That is why Jack Barry had dark glasses on during the night time run when he was hosting.

  • I really enjoyed the show .. it was B & E's attempt to tap into the popularity of celebrity gameshows such as Hollywood Squares and Match 7x .. the theme seems quite timeless IMO...

  • Epstein and Marjoe Gortner rule! Gortner and Lynda Carter reunited right from the classic Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw!

  • Where are they all now?

  • Abe Vigoda shows up on Conan occaisionally. Lynda Carter and Marjoe are still around.

  • my wife swears that Abe Vigoda is dead..and I say, no, he's looked that way since the 1970s ...

  • Abe is 88 and just appeared on Conan's farewell show

  • And.. its good to know it was not Abe's farewell show !!

  • Did anyone retire undefeated during the 3 months on ABC?

  • Tom Kennedy did the daytime version and Jack Barry did the syndicated version. This version aired once a week. They both had to wear shades because the lighting in the studio would hurt their eyes.

  • Love the theme song! Just saw Robert Hedges at a "Chiller Theatre" convention. He looks totally different than he did in the '70s.

  • I agree, this theme song is sweet! I've never seen this show before now btw, also I love the music used while intoducing the celebrity panel too.

  • This was during the brief period when ABC telecast the series daily at 4pm(et) in late 1975...

  • I lived in Minnesota at this time, and I think it was aired in the Midwest ca. 12:30 or so.

  • I remember Jo Ann Pflug from a few Match Game shows.

  • Here's some REAL Jo Ann Pflug trivia for you. In the late 1960's -- there was a Fantastic Four cartoon done by H-B. She was the voice of Sue Richards/The Invisible Girl. (That's not a mistake, remember it was the 1960's)

  • I saw that cartoon, but I had no idea that was Jo Ann! Now I'll love that show even more! midknightryder13, I salute you!

  • Also, Jo Ann was, at one time, married to Chuck Woolery!

  • wasn't she also one of the "Probe Control" consol girls in Search?

  • I think so, yes.

  • I wonder if Peter Marshall or Paul Lynde guest starred.

  • I don't think so. But I heard that Bob Barker guested on the Jack Barry-hosted version.

  • I miss this show. I was hoping to someday see a clip of the syndicated version's bonus round, as lame as it may have been.

  • I loved this game. I forgot the name of it. Thanks for posting the clip.

  • Got Gene Rayburn?

  • The theme used for this show was used six years later in "Soap World."

  • Did anyone ever exceed $20,000 during this shortlived version?

  • Barbara Goldberg was also a contestant on "Match Game"!

  • Got any Jack Barry eps?

  • what year was this on??

  • 1976

  • lynda carter was hoooooooooooooot then and still is

  • Marjoe was devastatingly beautiful. I know he did about 10 eps of this game - got any more clips?

  • Who's Marjoe?

  • the last celeb they announce. He and Lynda C. were promoting a movie together at that time. search Wiki and Youtube for more info.

  • man o man, this takes me back. i remember this show, and money maze and something called... blank check?

  • Was this the first game show to have contestants wearing mics or was that Wheel of Fortune?

  • This was in 1976, so it must have been wheel of fortune

  • I love that suit that Tom Kennedy has on! I want one just like it!

  • What a way to make my undying love of Game Shows larger.

  • Were the contestants wearing microphones?

  • Yes!

  • Great game. GSN should rerun the entire 15 weeks. The syndie version just wasn't as good, nor did Jack Barry gel with the panel like Tom Kennedy did.

  • Even though this show lasted 15 weeks, due to ABC's neediness for Soap Opera expansions, it proved to be very popular in the Nielsens. In fact, it ranked #2 in the daytime GS ratings, one ahead of The $20,000 Pyramid (also ABC) and one behind Match Game (CBS).

  • I can't understand caneling a show when it's highly rated.

Even though you gave your reason I still don't get it.

  • I heard that that it was cancelled because Fred Silverman was the head of ABC at the time, and he hated game shows (!!!).

  • @gameshowfrk That was true because when he headed NBC, he cancelled Hollywood Squares, High Rollers, and Chain Reaction, but spared Wheel of Fortune.

  • Liz Torres is a riot, love her. Robert Hegyes...HOT. The music is fantastic, absolutely love it, and I'm looking forward to watching this episode. Thanks for posting!

  • Excellent clip - well done :)

  • This of course was the beginning of the second era of Barry & Enright Productions with this first episode; an era that lasted for 15 years.

  • What the heck does this even mean?

  • This was the first show that Barry and Enright worked on together after the scandal, though rumor has it Dan Enright worked on Blank Check under the pseudonym William T. Naud.

  • Technically, Blank Check was actually the first show that Dan Enright worked w/ Jack Barry together.

  • Was he credited?

  • Actually William T. Naud, according to the Game Shows '75 website, was the name of the production company for

"Rhyme and Reason". And the site's webmaster commented that the name was a pseudonym for either Dan Enright or Chuck Barris.

  • Didn't Jack Barry thank his partner, Dan Enright, on the last CBS episode of TJW?

  • Yes, he did, crediting him as the show's executive producer. But this was the first post-scandal show labelled in the closing credits as being from Barry and Enright Productions, as opposed to "A Jack Barry Production."

  • Has GSN ever telecasted this episode, if yes, then this was the only time GSN has ever reran this episode: October 26, 1997.
