People have grown comfortable with the concept of public fire department that you do not have to pay for as an essential service. It is not categorically different than health care. And cutting taxes is only one tool in the tool bag of economic policy, you don't just pull it out and start swinging it all the time, everytime. You have to use it correctly. By the way, tax cuts were the biggest part of the stimulus package and we are still losing jobs because the system is fundamentally flawed.
