Bertini recorded these songs in a small London studio. Normally he would have a huge brass section but for sound purposes it had to be toned down, especially when he recorded on the radio and on home records.
To hear what his band sounded like inside the ballroom, I recommend the below record which is on youtube.
I love the tower ballroom, so unique. I have in my collection quite a few bertini's 78s. I play them still and the sound is remarkably good. I reckon he is underated as he not up there with the likes of hylton, ambrose, payne, nobel and hall etc. I enjoyed both the recordings and the pictures of the ballroom. Well put together. Look at the ballroom full of people! I would loved to have been a fly on the wall..many thanks for loading this.
The Tower Ballroom, is located on the Promenade, in a town called Blackpool, in the county of Lancashire, situated on the Northwest coast of England. It is still as beautiful, even after a disasterous fire nearly completely distroyed it in 1956. It was completely rebuilt much to the original specifications. The world famous 'Wurlitzer' Organ (installed in 1935, and repaired after the fire) is still there and played regularly by its resident Organist 'Phil Kelsall' and guest Organists.
Yes they still have Dances there, mainly using the Wurlitzer Organ and an electronic 'Versi' Organ which take it in turn to provide the music. I believe there is also an Orchestra that plays there sometimes, but I have never been there when they are on. The Dances are still the traditional types i.e. Waltzes, Gavottes Foxtrots etc.
@BCraven04 please go to 'Phil Kelsall' he's the resident organist at the Blackpool tower, there are some beautiful photographs of the ballroom interior.
A great selection. You've done wonders with the old Eclipse records! Much better than the terrrible digital noise reduction with have got used to in recent years.
Great nostalgic video of the ballroom and its past. It surely is a national treasure! Its just a place that never really changes, and hopefully it shall remain that way.
I have "By that qaint little Church on the Hillside" / "When the wild wild roses bloom" by this band Aaron

Lovely ballroom but what a pedestrian band played there.Terrible limp rhythm section.Such a big venue deserved a sharper snappier band
