  • That was really good.

  • @Mukatto100 More like a professional deep throater.

  • Someone should do a tutorial on tounge placement

  • @eleventhing For this type of overtone singing, there are several different tongue placements, manipulations and movement. The 4 main categories are Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal and the Turtle. In this video, he is using a single drone. There are more complex harmonic possibilities when you change the lower pitch as you go along. If you would like to know more, please visit my channel.

  • nice ! two noises at the same time! can you make a tutorial?

  • @jong12341 I have a tutorial if you'd like. There are 4 main techniques in this type of overtone singing: horizontal, vertical, diagonal and the turtle. Also, it is possible to move the voice in counterpoint (opposite directions) which brings more complexity to the harmony. If you'd like more info, please visit my channel.

  • COOLEO

  • WOW A throat version of bagpipes!

  • @rosepetal108 Look up the Scottish music type called Mouth Music - for when the english banned the bagpipes :)

  • oh wow...your throat singing is awesome! You must teach meee!!!

  • @katyDidz2410 Hi, that video was overtone singing. There are 4 main techniques for this: Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal and the Turtle. (tongue placement, manipulation and division of resonant spaces). Also it is possible to move the voice in counterpoint (opposite directions), by moving the lower pitch as you go along. I can teach you with a very comprehensive tutorial with the goal of having you join a virtual overtone choir, or to do it solo, etc. Please check my channel for more info.

  • Wonderful. I have been listening to Tibetan chant for decades and this sheds a lot of light on what they are doing. I enjoyed this very much and will listen again. Thank you.

  • They should get that checked out... I don't think it is very good to be full of so much shit. I thank you for your concern for the human population. :D

  • @bmwalshe actually there are a lot of people that find it amazing!!

  • @pervert2099

You act as if you all of a sudden represent the opinion of the 6 billion+ human beings on all of planet earth. Perhaps you shouldn't be so self-centered.

  • You must live in a crate.

  • This is amazing! Have been practising throat singing a lot myself. I can do the deep growl sound with my vocal chords but I need to learn the overtoning better. But this was really good. Keep practising.

  • Amazing, you mastered it almost perfectly.

You have a good musical ear.

  • Thank you =D

  • Went out for a a ride last night and practiced in the car. It came back after a litle while. I used to do it as a kid even though I knew nothing about throat singing but now wear a partial denture, have to re-learn how to position my tongue.

I notice now as I got much older I can do the very low growl the monks do as well. Good musical fun.

  • @menkeechang Yeah, I learned it without a retainer, and I have noticed that it's really hard to do with my retainer in. I have been practicing the growl, but can't quite get that yet. I find the car the best place to practice so then I don't disturb other people =P

  • you can make the same noise by blowing into a washing machine tube.

  • nice!!!!

  • I can fart Amazing Grace better than this

  • @vetdad

    No way broski!

  • you're cute, that's all that matters ;P

  • I thought I was deaf! But I caught it in the end! Very nice!

  • :D totally awesome dude. and yes, because of you and Yuichituba, i will also post an amazing grace overtone singing video(and use it in my choir class)

  • @chrizo145

Yea, yuichituba's tutorial was very good in my opinion. Good luck with the overtone singing chrizo!

  • Dude you have an australian instrument got stuck in your troath :-)

  • And you have a stupid fucking cunt in your fingertips that makes you type dumb shit

  • Good job! well done!!!

  • 走音啦

  • gibt bessere aber ich wäre froh überhaupt mal so nen ton zu treffen :D respekt und 5*

  • I am very impressed by the music. But in the future please be careful about what is behind your head when you cam or photograph yourself. You seem to have rays or flaps growing from your head. Anyway, back to the music: I wonder is overtone singing always pentatonic? Could one play something really fancy and chromatic like Debussy's Syrinx using vocal overtones?

  • It looks as if light is coming out of his crown chakra. Very nice brother keep it up.

  • lol@flaps growing from the head

  • i like the halo. overtone/throat singing is not pentatonic at all. you are using the harmonic scale - you are just isolating one of the many overtone/harmonics that always ring with your voice. the scale is irregular and not tempered, at the bottom, the intervals are large (octave, fifth), towards the top they become smaller and smaller. it's easiest to use harmonics 6 - 12, because u have the first three steps of a major scale.

  • hi bol. this is not pentatonic - if you listen to where the lyric THE (as in'how sweet THE sound') would fall, it's a flat 7 rather than a major 6. overtone/throatsinging uses the harmonic scale: big intervals at the bottom, smaller and smaller at the top. the best ones are between harmonic 6-12: you almost have a scale and you can make them ring loudly. above that, the steps get smaller than semis and are very hard to control (like on a trumpet or any other wind instrument)

  • Thank you. That it's on the harmonic scale makes perfect sense, given that there is some overtone singing in Stockhausen's Stimmung. As for the halo, I think it's cute. But I'm not sure that the young man was aware of it. I was just pointing it out to him, in case it was an unwanted effect.

  • the end sounds likehow its layd on a bag pipe

  • gosh how did you do thay?

  • thay iz secret tongue overtones =P

  • how the hell do people do that

  • Awesome, I wish i knew how to do that!

  • BTW, I love all the hate comments people are leaving each other. It's fun to read :-P

  • Thanks for posting. I appreciate the amount of time and effort you have put into learning this. I have loved this kind of singing for years and it is satisfying to know others are out there keeping it going.

  • Thanks, I need to make a new video though. I had a lot of pitch problems in this video, but I didn't care at the time. I was too excited about actually being able to do it.

  • this is amazing

  • Wow, 5th grade English teacher using some big words trying to make individuals as myself seem less intelligent because of a common typing error such as typing "is" rather than "and". Yes, I admit, in 5th grade I probably would have gotten a point deducted for the improper use of the words. Before you disparage someone on their use of proper English, make sure you can correct them at least within a high school learning level.

    P.S. That was 3 months ago, I don't believe it matters... = D

  • Being racist is hating the group as a whole are two completely different things. He was "dawgin" on the kid for doing an exceptionally well job on something that is difficult. There are presentable black people, but they definitely are not the one's who can't speak clear english, slur their words, wear their pants to the floor, and act like his kind of music is hard. All that is required for rap is to talk. And as far as my opinion goes, he stated his, so I responded with mine. Nice try... = D

  • no no no...what i'm referrring to is your comment which was a GENERAL COMMMENT, which says...

"replying to white people's comments trying to act like he's just as important as us"... That is wat im talking about. What you're saying is that black people are not as important as whites, that's wat I was referring to. I find that comment to be racist and completely unnecessary

  • all that is required with rap is not only the ability to tak, but being quick on one's feet. Despite the BET dingbats you here on the radio, there are those that implement more structure to the verses, and clever wordplay.

  • Before you libel somebody for not speaking clear English, learn to write it.

  • I'm not racist, I just hate the colored people who think just cuz they are "black", they have the right to talk like they do not have past a third grade education. Keep up the overtone singing man, you could go far = )

  • Apparently you are racist because in your last comment you said he's replying to white people's comments trying to act like he's just as important as us. Well if thats not the thinking of a white supremacist I dont know what is. This is youtube, he was stating his opinion so dont bring your racist crap on hear over an opinion.

  • Don't listen to the Americans. This was awesome, let them appreciate the latest rap hit like they all do instead of this unique stuff.

  • @FlickerFilmPictures You're joking, yeah? Ever listen to Fair to Midland or VNV Nation?

  • Wth did I just saw on my youtube screen O.o

  • wtf?

  • lol??

  • this is probably the ugliest thing i have ever seen. wheres the amazing? wheres the grace?

    ...

  • learn some grace yourself, and perhaps some tolerance...

  • haha are you serious? haha in a choir you have your alto bass tenor soprano you dont see a kid in the corner claiming hes a overtoner! haha are you serious. do you seriosly find this music? hahaha OMG!!!

  • in a choir they should not allow people like yourself to join...

  • you don't have a point.

  • you are clearly not replying to me in particular, but i'll reply anyway. oh, and i wasn't SERIOUSLY expecting anything, and you should think twice about calling people you don't know pathetic.

if overtoning isn't music, then nothing is. harmony wouldn't even be invented if it wasn't for overtones, and that's a FACT! the choir argument you made has got to be the lamest ever. ok this doesn't belong in a normal choir, so what? who said anything about a choir? and how fucking SQUARE are you dude?

  • Stigandr. haha ur pathetic. Square?! good one are you 13? fine lets not talk about choirs. but then how do u explin the FEW overtone choirs like the European Overtone Choir. You cant talk about overtones uness u tak about choirs u fuckin idiot. and name one person who has success from being overtone singer that has ade impact on the music timeline.

and ok fine ill think before i cal u pathetic.

    ..

    ..

ok i thought enough, ur still pathetic.

  • ok so i didn't know i was dealing with such an expert in the vocal arts, and a mentor at that!

maybe i should address the real problem instead:

your negativity and pompousness. leave the singer alone, he's learning. why the bashing and the bragging? well since you brought up the age issue, you're like 18 so i guess it's part of being a teenager.

    "nigga"? wannabe gangsta are we?

i really just wanna say peace. to end this. last word is yours if you want it. choose wisely, for it will say a lot.

  • Heh, well - funny thing, that. My whole choir can overtone sing, but only because a grad student that led them in warmups made them do it as a warmup. So.. eh. There are MANY kids in my choir claiming they could overtone sing.

  • And - to add insult to injury, IDej, Overtone singing is an EXTREMELY useful technique to help strengthen the soft palate which is fundamental to "Free Singing" <-(Any voice coach will obsess about this term) After all, Free singing is what seperates the OK singer and the AMAZING, BREATHTAKING singer. But, this is only possible with a strong and controlled soft palate. The act of producing overtones helps strengthen and control it.

  • @kittykatt1311 can you tell me what you mean by free singing?

  • Nice! Good overtones! Keep up the good work....Peace

  • add a bit more pressure and it will be real khoomei

  • not that this is bad btw, very good, very good indeed

  • Thanks! And I'll try adding that pressure you were talking about.
