glass dust is supposedly very bad for the lungs too. water keeps it from flying into the air and getting into the lungs.

I was really scared at first too, but I found out that glass is much sturdier than you'd think. Maybe you can pick up a cheap 10-gal tank from Walmart or something and drill a bunch of holes into it for practice. :) Once you get two holes down, it becomes much less nerve wracking.

if the glass peice is stressed there can still be an issue. like when glass blowers put their tubes and rods in front of their torches 99 times or more out of a hundred everything goes ok. but occasionally they say that they just explode because they were made wrong or stressed in shipping or something else happened. i think that quality in precision of the manufacturing of the glass worked on is an issue.

Its for the drainage hole which sits behind the overflow, so as long as the overflow and teeth are cut up high, the hole can be wherever you please :)
