  • Eternal rest towards Ronnie .I read your book ronnie..From Wickow.and a carpenter

    Fair playour brave ronnie drew

  • it's a shame shane messed up the line "... a drink in westport" - he shouldn't have changed the rhythm of those two last lines in every verse being the same.

    so damn close to perfection...

  • @mottentottenham

It isn't a poem. It is a song.

  • @mottentottenham

Hey Mottentottenham its a funny thing "a drink in westport " line was what stood out to me as been the the best part of the song as it was more than not meant to disturb the rhythm while giving the reader an image of the man in question. Its a line people that will stick in the head of someone who reads it. I know you are not putting down the song as by your comment I guessed you liked it but I think that line made the song. Anyway, slan

  • @Saoirsethirtytwo

May be the character is, simply, thirsty.

  • @MrChazlan @cfcolly Hi, Shane does talk about the Dunes (and has the lyrics on one page of the book) in the autobiography and talks about kicking the sand around and the bones being exposed. (Chilling) He does say tho that it was during a trip to Mayo. (You're both correct. :) ) Have a great day.

  • yes there was no famine, the brits exported tons and tons of every type of food at gunpoint, shame on them

  • when shane was a kid him and some friends used to play ira verses specials down by the sand dunes near his home in County Tipperary. one day they were playing in the sand and unearthed body or two. thats whats inspired him to write this beautiful piece of poetry

  • @cfcolly

How did you hear about this tale? It's pretty amazing.

  • moving, my grandfather family on my mothers side were from Mayo. I hadnt heard the dunes story beefore. Sad. Shitty to think theres a big bloody gas line goin in there now despite the locals.
