@schwahelian You're a bastard, the world has enough ignorant pricks without you. We should be trying to help each other. We're humans, not animals trying to fight for survival, well maybe the homeless are but you couldn't give a shit less as long as you keep your middle class lifestyle.
In WA it's really quite difficult for the people whoa re homeless to even enrol, as one needs to have another person co-sign (after reading all of your personal information) to confirm that indeed you are who you claim to be. If one moves around a lot, that would be an impossible demand to fulfil. If you were new to WA with no friends or family here, you couldn't fulfil that demand either, but I digress.
Don't worry Russel, both the Libs and ALP are promising to cut company tax. That means the guy in the million dollar mansion will have more money and poor fucks like you and me will still be on the waiting list for public housing. Got to love Australia. Sometimes i believe i be better off living in Cuba.
@skyscraper83 Get off your arse and work like the rest of us. If you try mate you will get somewhere in this life. Don't expect the public to look after you, otherwise there are plenty of us who would like to see you go to Cuba.
So your basically say everyone waiting on a public housing waiting list needs to get off their ass? Get off you fucking high horse mate. You know nothing about me.
@skyscraper83 I don't want to know anything about you. Your type always has an excuse or someone else to blame. I don't tell you about me either shit head so get off your lazy communist arse and pull yourself out of the shit.
@schwahelian The problem with this country/world is people like you schwhelian. Your only concern is for yourself and your own materialism. Some of us do not want your social Darwinist Australia. Instead we want a Australia about equality and fairness.
@schwahelian you're clearly not the sharpest knife in the draw. way to miss/ignore/avoid the entire point. The only thing you have going for you is the utterly self centred attitude of a small child or animal, and if that's what it takes to 'pull yourself out of the shit', well, you're a good argument for communism.
Luckily I know that's not what it takes, as the video shows.
The major parties have ignored the housing crisis for young people who are not buying houses, for homeless, the poor, students and those that need help the most. Give them the shock of their lives and rock up to vote Green or any smaller party that has a social concience. Russell, You'll go a long way with with the courage to make a stand and do something about it. I was homeless once and I know how TFU it is.
Oh and yeah, the waiting list for commission housing is "indefinite" (defined as longer than 5 years) when you're a young single male. It's over a year for couples with children, or was when I put my name on the list at 17. Of course, when your number comes up, they need to be able to contact you... by mail.
@Wallabytrack Vote ALP in the Lower House, that's cool. But please, vote Green or a similar small party in the Senate to bring housing onto the agenda. The major parties really don't care about the poor and the homeless.
He's impressive. His achievements outshine what -most- people on six figure salaries have done with their lives. They'd be dead in a gutter given his circumstances, yet he is out there trying to help people, despite the fact that the task is almost insurmountable.
By the way, the 'cycle of homelessness' you hear people talk about isn't just a catchy marketing phrase. It's almost impossible to 'get a job and then get accommodation'. So difficult in fact that this is the first bloke other than myself I have heard of who spent more than 6 months homeless and is still alive, not imprisoned, not an addict, and has work and accommodation.
I was homeless for eight years from the age of fifteen, and in case you were wondering, no, children of that age don't CHOOSE to be homeless because they 'don't like being told what to do'.
Almost all of the homeless kids I met were abused at home, most often sexually. Others were just dumped, left behind when their parents moved away without telling them where.
Keep your pig ignorant opinions to yourselves if you simply have no idea.
I was homeless at sixteen by choice. It's not that I didn't like being told what to do, it was more that my parents were annoying and close minded. They Loved me all the same though.
I could claim mental abuse but really, it was just worth while more to me live in a fire emergency stairway than to be beneath their roof. Both had air conditioning. But one allowed me to bring girls over and the other did not.
That means: No license, no access to word of mouth job advertisements, no education, no skills, and nothing to fill out on the "contact details" of a job application form. No education from parents or teachers regarding canvassing for jobs, and no self esteem to attempt it anyway.
Anyone who says "get a job" has never had first OR second hand experience with youth homelessness. Shut the fuck up if you CLEARLY don't know what you're talking about, you're just embarrassing yourself.
This bloke was homeless before he was an adult. In case you need to be walked through it step by step, that means it's likely that he had no contact with his family, and his education fell by the wayside in the day to day struggle to survive. No family car to learn to drive in. His peers likely also homeless or at risk young people.
annkus3 you have know idea. Even someone one with a high priority for low income housing can wait for years. Maybe you actually need to look before you condescend
I have been homeless and working, the dole helps when i am not working, It"s NOT VERY HARD TO DO! if you have a good spot to sleep for 6-8 hours, there are places to go and have a shower, washing. i been doing it for 5-8 years.
Way pay RENT when you can still get 6-8hours sleeping out!!
@annkus3 that is true for some cases but how about abused victims they have no where to stay and only 2 out of 7 are able to find a place to live with a friend or family.
"Dont like people telling them what to do?" What kind of subservient submissive little weasel are you accepting anyone's authority over you and pushing you around - you WIMP!
@annkus3 you fucking wanker i would like to slap you to make you wake up he may not represent the the norm but to say just get a job your a joke even if you do have a job do you know how much rent is cocksmack minimum 200 to 300 dollars per week for a 1 or 2 bedroom unit get in the real world arsehole and stop bludging of your parents
There is no proof other than the anecdotal that this finely dressed man is presently homeless. I was homeless once, I didn't ask for handouts. I vote for the Liberal party.. typically.
@TheJohnubis You were homeless once? What you mean the weekend you stayed at a friend's palce between selling your old house and moving into your new one? Bullshit ! - You were never truly homeless for any serious length of time nor in a genuine hard circumstance, such as tens of thousands of aussies who are stuck with no options.
@DocBrewster The options are incredibly limited depending on the situation. Many homeless actually have no identification, tax file number, or even their birth record. They don't have any bills or bank statements that provide a birth record. With no bank account, they have no access of any kind to centerlink. I was homeless for a few months, but I had options. Perhaps they should let people like this start a new identity entirely, its better than nothing.
