Technique is fine, but you need top conditioning with lots of anaerobic workouts because you WILL go into oxygen debt at about 600 meters and that last half lap is all technique and discipline holding form.
Also, the 800 is a bit of a mindfuck. You might be relaxed and go through in 55-56 for the first 400 and finish the 2nd lap in what u believe is the same pace but probably 10 seconds slower :P.. AN IMPORTANT TIP is it to stay relaxed enough to runa comfortable first lap (the work should kick in at about 300) and then trusting your body to use all of it's energy to kick the last lap like a 400 race. ( you will still probably positive split) but if trained right, u will mostt likely pb.
i clicked on this video because I was interested in how to run an 800 more along the lines of race strategy. I've never ran one before, but I'm fairly certain all of his advice in this video would be applicable for any distance 200-800, and the only difference for the 1500 is that you would use your heels a little bit. Anyone who has ever been coached in track should know to stay relaxed and to assume the proper body position. This video lacks any useful tips for the 800.
@ThattKiddMike lol where do you live because our school record is a 2:20@SeanJordan15 are you in middle school or high school because this is my freshman year and im running like the same thing
@SeanJordan15 yea you can break way more than that if you go out your first lap faster than your second lap but you have to be determine your mind set has to be strong though
I run 1:58 in freshman year and 1:52 as a sophomore. want to be 1:41:00 by the end of high school! I also eat 12,000 calories a day and only train by doing push ups. it works for me!
I agree with you. I think these people are just posting fast times because it makes them feel good and no one can disprove them! I ran track and XC my Freshman and Sophmore year of HS 2:12 for the 800M 5:16 for the 1600M and 19:18 for the 5K. I'm a freshman in college at UCF now and to this day I wish I didn't quit.
@wc5killer it depends on the competitivness of your track and field team and if your a girl or boy, by the time your in high school if you want to be by the 2:30 mark if you want to fun it in invitationals and possibly go to regionals or if your lucky state. if your on a good team and stick with it you will be better in no time :)
I ran 800 meters and its is tiring a tip is to first get in the lead at the begging and go at a constant speed pace try not to sprint and let anyone go ahead of you. Once you get to 400 meter this gets more painful but do not sprint keep jogging at a constant speed if you need to slow down then slow down but you must go faster afterward. In the last 200 meters sprint! just sprint! go as fast as you can simple.
I ran 2:12 as a freshman, and im a sophomore now! Sorta... Im from Canada so 2:12 as a midget and im a junior now... I prefer the american version, I mean, who wants to be called a midget boy? I mean, come on! But if I ran the 800 now, I'd get a 1:20... HAHA just kidding, I'd get 1:41.. Thats right I can get the world record!! Jk, no, I'd probably get 2:05 now! There that is serious right there
@mmmmkBKLY@mmmmkBKLY Idk maybe i want to leave stupid jokes, and it didn't look like you knew it was a joke from your first post, so maybe you should just chill.. its just a youtube video.
@luke0322 That is by no means bad. I'm not sure you could make it through state qualifiers with that open time, but If the rest of your relay team has times that low, you guys could go far.
ive been jogging alot for just over a year now after i went through some traumatic moments in my life. i started at 298 lbs and now weigh 235. i think i hit plateau i havent lost any more weight. im a big guy 6'1 still pretty fat but ive outrun everyone ive ever jogged with in any track :). not trying to brag but just thought id share this. jogging is a great way to relieve stress and get your anger out.
8th grade 2:13 9th grade 2:08 10th grade now hoping to break 2:04 or even 2:00.... I do know a kid who's a sophomore Now and he ran a 1:56 800 as a freshman so ya lol
i am going to be a sophmore in a few months,,,but my fastest 800 freshman year was a 2:38..ima girl btw. and i made a bet to beat my P.R sophmore year. i have to aim for a 2:35...how hard do u think that will be.?
@zzaacchhman10 we had a guy who as an 8th grader ran a 2:28-800 meter but then ran a 5:04 as his mile. he was insane. i broke the 800 record with a 2:24 but got a back injury and had to forfeit the rest of my season. i would've had the mile too. this guy was more of a cross country runner. he went 15:00 on a regular 5k course!!!!!
I really wish that I saw this video before I competed for the 800. I didnt do good at all...my time was like 2:59. Thats not so good. At least I am not lying, and not afraid to admit that...unlike others on here.
i just got done with my freshman year and my best 800 time was a 2:20. was it that hard to post your real time? besides im more of a cross country runner, today i got my pr of 18:17. not the best time ever but im proud of the work ive put into that 18:17
complete opposite of me, im guessing you have alot more mileage training, me on the other hand can go well under 2:20 but never gone under 20 in the 5k
Got away from what I was saying, but yah, the first 200 meters is a full on sprint, then you try and stride hard for the next 200. At the halfway point, you stride out even harder, try to lengthen, until you reach the last 200 meters, where you give it everything you have to finish out sprinting hard. I was normally a 2 mile runner, ran the 3200 relay just as an alternate from time to time. The only other race as difficult as the 800 is the 300 meter hurdles (or 400 hurdles for college +)
Hey guys. Since I have self-esteem issues, I'm gonna say that I ran a 1:51 as a freshman in the 800 because I feel better about myself after lying to strangers on the internet.
@drone713 lol haha that was funny but for real my dad said he knew a kid who ran a 1:54 as a freshman!! but he got in a bad car accident and ruined his knee :(
@Jaffacakez13 yeah when i was in 7th grade starting i had like 3:05 and then i remember cutting it down by like 30 second with like a month of training but thats because i would stack up on bananas before racing but yeah thats pretty good but u will see people hitting 2:30 as there average so take my advice to motivate to finish ur race " IF YOU DIDT COME IN LAST YOU CAME IN FIRST "
hey expertvillage i think you really now what your talking about im gonna be a freshman in high school this coming up school year i really wanna be devoted to this 800m distance sprint which i ran in 8th grade 2:19 was my best and i was seeing if i paid you could you help me train for this correctly ? message me at jsmotokillerfreak@gmail.com thanks jesse
@StevenLeblanc I'd agree with you, but look up Mark McCauley from maine. He just won the New England Championships in 1:52.8 as a senior, but he ran low 1:53s as a junior. It's doable, just pretty rare. Obviously there are Juniors who are faster than 1:53, but I'm just drawing from one example. 1:59 as a Junior is still quite strong.
@ramon103t there are kids that could run around those time at those ages i saw some middle school kids run a 2:12 and there a track meet for freshmen and sophomores that could run 1:54 to 1:57 my coach was telling me about it i forgot the name of the meet tho lol but it's not impossible for kids to be running at those times.
@sandi6612 if its real thats a good time... especially for an 11 year old??? but i know it is possible bc one kid thats in gr. 4 runs like that so idk but it is a good time
why do people go on these track vids and lie about their times? running times under 2 minutes is nationals status for a high school 800 and i know all these dudes dont run under 2
No, running under 2 minutes isn't even All State in most states, much less all american. You have to run damn near a 1:50 in order to even think about running at nationals, and even faster to place there.
Maybe I'll keep these tips in mind when I become a district CHAMPION with an 800 time of 0:56 xD jk I run it in like 2:45 lol I'm in eighth grade and slow as fuck but I was serious about running against my 3-AAA district wish me luck ;)
Im in 7th grade and i run an 800 at an average at about 1:15 last year i got 2:12 but my time wasnt consistant. Now its consistent and i got a 2:11 first jv track meet April 4th then im runnin prob the 2 mile relay with the varsity i dont know when that is.... Im not lying here i do run a 2:11....Wish Me Luck
Yeah all this stuff about lieing about there times is so much BS if you can do it why don't you post a video and prove us all wrong. I ran a 4:45 mile as a freshman... don't believe me? Check my profile, also if your going to brag always have some type of support and quit lieing!!!

I'm a Junior and I run a 1:59 struggling there is no way a junior higher runs a 1:54
StevenLeblanc 1 year ago
@StevenLeblanc uhm look up Chris Fitzsimmons...was a junior in the school year of 2008-09, pr for the 800 was 1:51.96...he just broke 1:50 this year
oh and 1:56 bitches
RosinZombie88 1 year ago
@StevenLeblanc I'd agree with you, but look up Mark McCauley from maine. He just won the New England Championships in 1:52.8 as a senior, but he ran low 1:53s as a junior. It's doable, just pretty rare. Obviously there are Juniors who are faster than 1:53, but I'm just drawing from one example. 1:59 as a Junior is still quite strong.

@ramon103t 1:54 is fast for a soph but its not impossible ive seen a few run close to that

zune1421 1 year ago
why do people go on these track vids and lie about their times? running times under 2 minutes is nationals status for a high school 800 and i know all these dudes dont run under 2
xiPEARSONx 1 year ago
@xiPEARSONx
No, running under 2 minutes isn't even All State in most states, much less all american. You have to run damn near a 1:50 in order to even think about running at nationals, and even faster to place there.
al2683 1 year ago
And i also saw an 8th grader run a 5:01 mile today.
