I was wondering why they tookMiddleton off the ice. There is no way he could have been in 2 other scraps and it didn't look like a 3rd man in. Anyone out there know why? You also got to love Cherry clapping after the fight..We miss you here in Boston Grapes!
Rick Middleton was a well-liked and respected player... and a terrific guy! I don't think I've ever heard (or read) anyone say a negative thing about him.
Rick Middleton was my brothers councilor at summer camp in Huntsville Ontario in the late 60's. I remember he was great with kids during a time when most guys his age were macho bullies. I'm guessing he was around 16 or 17 at the time well before he broke into the NHL and became a star. I left Canada in the late 70's and had no idea that he had such a distinguished career until recently when I stumbled onto this video clip. How freaken amazing!
lol Middleton fought about as much in a Boston uniform as Sergei Samsonov, but he didn't need to fight. That's why they had John Wensink, Stan Jonathan, Terry O'Reilly and Mike Millbury to do the rough-housing.

This was hockey. Not today's staged garbage. These guys generally disliked one another. Sittler could really throw them.

A very rare fight for Nifty! It must have been very early in his career with The Bruins (I believe his first year with Boston was 1976-77 season).
