I'm laughing at the people arguing over what languages are harder to learn than others. the only problem for me with learning japanese and arabic is I don't really have any practice for it since there aren't many speakers of it where I live so it's kinda hard for me to learn nouns, verbs, etc. except with arabic it's my friend's and his familie's native language :D

actually Japanese or chinese is the hardest to learn. arabic is surprisingly similar to french. they both have words that differ due to gender, conjugations, time, and age. its not too hard. the only diff is trying to write and read arabic

Japanese isn't that hard, i can't say i'm fluent, but it's a pretty logical langauge once you get your head round the basics and the characters.

@elliniwendy Don't worry about it, just start with memorizing all the 28 basic letters of the Arabic alphabet. That's how I started 3 years ago, and look where I am now. I can understand aljazeera and read Arabic texts easily.. I'l be happy to help you out where I can.

msa arabic is good to know, but from all the native arabic speakers I know from different countries, it is better to learn Egyptian colloquial Arabic, because since there are so many different dialects from one locale to the next, everyone understands Egyptian Arabic, being that Egyptians dominate the media in the Arabic-speaking nations...movies, tv shows, etc., are predominantly from Egypt, so if you go to, say, Sudan, or Iraq, or Yemen, they may not understand MSA, but they know Egyptian...
