Yes technically but I'm sure that the transition wouldn't have be that easy. There would have been Nazi pockets of resistance against the transition. Also I doubt the Allies would realize what just happened initially; and thus wouldn't take the initial surrender seriously. U have to admit such a quick change would seem strange. Henning von Tresckow is one example, he opposed Hitler as early as 1934 and saw the nazi war crimes against the jews as pure evil.

They may have been sceptical about Hitler's colonial ambitions but when things were going well they went along with it, if they were all so anti Hitler and the regime then they would of done something about it much earlier on in the war. The july plotters movement was too small but they did come very close to killing the fuhrer...

He and his (then, kinda puny) band of Nazi Party Officers and Stormtroopers declared a revolution in a Beer hall and tried to go from there. It basically failed horribly. The truth about operation valkyrie is not really shown (from the moral viewpoint). Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) was a horrible nazi officer who enjoyed killing jews. He wanted to kill Hitler, because he wanted power. Hollywood changed Stauffenberg's moral character, because they cant just make movie about a bad guy.

The plot was carried out in july 1944 only ten months before hitler's death and the end of WW2 in europe.
By this point the Allies are blasting through from the west and the Soviets doing the same in the east. With both sides demanding UNDCONDITIONAL surrender.
The plotters wanted to kill hitler and negotiate with the Americans and the British alone. This was highly unacceptable for the Soviets, who had been negotiating with the allies to take eastern germany.

Just a little FYI, but at that time the Allies were three miles inland from Normandy and anything but blasting through the lines. It wasn't until late August that Patton started his run across France. The Soviets were also stalled at the eastern edge of Poland. All Allies were open to negotiation, but stubborn Hitler kept the fighting up.

hitler's best chance to negotiate was when he still had something of value to trade with the allies. Which would have been france and the low countries.
After being beaten in africa, the battle of the atlantic, italy and various points on the eastern front a negotiation with the allies would seem like a smart option.
But once they landed on the continent it was viewed by the allies that the war was over and they had to beat the soviets to gain as much territory and technology as possible

Yes technically but I'm sure that the transition wouldn't have be that easy. There would have been Nazi pockets of resistance against the transition. Also I doubt the Allies would realize what just happened initially; and thus wouldn't take the initial surrender seriously. U have to admit such a quick change would seem strange. All the while Satefenburg would have to keep order. I wouldn't have been a walk even if he did pull it off, but I'm sure he knew that.
