I cant say how much I respect all you soldiers. I am a nurse. Not really terribly courageous. Spare a thought for Ben Dunster - my father - DCLI. In Malaya.
I tried to write a comment 1 year ago but it didn't work But I found myslef back here again so here goes.
If you remember I said I wanted to use in a memorial servic ein Woking whihc I did and it was wonderful So evokative and respectful - fitted the mood perfectly
I also used it in Kabul Afghanistan on Remembrance Day as part of a presentation I did on Red and White poppies - So thanks a million
My great-great grand.dad fought this war too...He was a dane living in Germany and was drafted,he survived the war...His son was drafted too but escaped to Denmark..
@BurningWicky1 If you had taken notice of the title"the last fighting tommy' ie the last ENGLISH INFANTRY SOLDIER WHO FOGHT IN TH TRENCHES you would realise what you are saying is irrelevant! I agree all the others are still alive,as I have mentioned previously in the comments section!Woodruff was an ambulance driver who never saw combat and the rest are either not English or infantry! Please read before making dumb comments!
I'm using this as part of a Memorial service in Woking on Remembrance Sunday - Hope that is OK with you - I thought it very moving and the music goes so well
You are more than welcome my friend,Im ex services myself and feel the heros who came before us did not get the recognition they deserved!Just do me a small favour and let me know how it was recieved please! good luck
He was the last veteran who fought in the trenches, according to all the researgh there are still 3 others who served in the navy[2] and medical corps[1]which one is your neighbour? If he is an unknown vet then you must get in touch with the imperial war museum in London as they are putting a major project together!
