I've switched to the super economical DE or double edge safety razor blades. You can buy them on ebay or amazon. The handle is a bit expensive but the blades are very cheap. A pack of 10 blades will cost between $5 to $7 with free shipping. You'll save alot more money. DE blades are sharper and lasts longer. Merkur are German blades, excellent quality. But Feather brand are Japanese, simply the sharpest! Try the Merkur safety razor, its the classic razor that grandpa used. The best!
I wonder where the notion of shaving your facial hair came from in the first place. It's like circumcision, there's no good reason to do it, but most people do it (at least here in the US). I shave once in a blue moon - just to give my face a breather. Never do it for more than a week at a stretch. Anybody remember the old Sat. Night LIve routine where they made fun of twin blades by introducing a razor with three? Go figure, now we have them with five. Pretty f-ing absurd.
@dwcarkuff Yes, I agree on both counts! A pointless exercise on both counts but I find keeping a beard neat more of a hassle. OK, the twin blades were a definite improvement on the DE. I am now on a Quatro (because my twin blade broke and it was cheaper than a twin) but I don't see any difference. As I say in my video, it's the soap and technique that makes the difference.
@Helveticum13 Twin blades definitely work best for me. I used DE for about 20 years but when twin blades came out I switched. I don't understand the passion for DE. Cool if you like them but why do people have a fuss when others use twin blades?
I agree, I had lot of problems with shaving like ingrown hair and redness and my face would burn. I asked help in "traditional shaving" forums and they assured me that a brush plus leathered shaving cream plus a DE would solve all my problems. I was so excited and believed this for a long time till eventually I bought a pretty expensive DE, learned all the right techniques and everything. But actually my problems worsened and I didn't get a close shave as with the mach 3
It came from humans themselves. All the primitive populations known in this world shave. There are even certain populations in Kalahari desert and Papa Guinea islands that remove every hair from their body. Egyptians shaved and even neanderthal men shaved. So it seems to me that shaving is an universal human instinct and having less hair as possible is a universal attractive feature
Hello, I have been using the same blade for 1/2 a year and it's a disposable one. After I am finished I clean the blades with an old toothbrush and then dry the blade on a regular towel. Hair is too soft to dull a steel blade, the real culprit is the water it's self. I use regular cheapo shaving cream from a can. Just keep your blade dry and it will not get dull! I'm working on a time lapse video showing this trick and it really works!
got you ALL beat. years on the same razor. Mach 3. The secret lies in the gel. Once the gel is gone ... generally the razor becomes useless. But if you superglue plastic tape 2 strips wide, it operates like brand new. This is the dirty litte secret they hope you dont discover.
The gel strip? Not all razors even have those. How would that make a difference it comes after the blades cut the hair? I'm not doubting I'm just curious. please explain why that is so.
Here's how I discovered this secret. I took an old blade that had been beat to death i.e. dull dull and utterly useless. I stripped the old gel off and inserted a strip from a brand new razor. It worked like brand new. I realized it wasn't the blades weren't so much dull ... but something to do w/ the gel strip. Then I experimented with tape ... and lo and behold .. it works like new again. 1 razor ... 4 years ... I shave 4 times a week.
Any old hair and soap caked on a razor and in the blade is a breeding ground for germ ... anti-bacterial soap not withstanding. It's just plain good hygiene and the soap I use helps to me to keep my blade spotless. Makes sense to me.
No holes in my logic! I said that the soap residue collecting on your razor between shaves is a breeding ground for germs which it is. Anti-bacterial soap is not an excuse to have a dirty razor.

It all depends how thin your hairs are. Too thick will kill that blade.

@magiclifestyle101 twin blades - improvement over a DE? Get your technique right, what can I say..

@magiclifestyle101 well it was more towards a remark about improvement over DE, not the blade type itself and one's preferences.
