  • COME BACK TYONDAI!

  • Only bad secundary effect of listening to battles is.....brick shitting!! xD

  • EPIC. I feel priviledged to have seen them live.

  • Amazing.... :)

  • why such a ridiculously high cymbal? i've never understood this.

  • @jamaicanmecrazyful It provides for a more minimalist sound...He's not as tempted to hit the cymbal as much as most bands would..."Race In" is really one of the only times he bashes the cymbal a good amount of times in a row...

  • @3Deelites That, and it looks fantastic.

  • @jamaicanmecrazyful I heard, somewhere, that it's because he likes to feel like he's on the very edge/limit of his capabilities when he plays with Battles. Something to do with pushing yourself and that bringing the best out. Bit cliched.

However, I suspect it's basically because it looks a bit cool and quirky, hence why it features on the Battles t-shirt I happen to be wearing.

  • do you need your mind to be further bLown by crazy creative music? see: Upsilon Acrux "Radian Futura"

  • Fantastically intense

  • I never realized how tech heavy that song is to play live.

  • So much gear....

  • Tyondai Braxton is dumb for leaving these guys.

  • @tylergunnzebra have you heard his solo stuff though?!?!?!?!?!

  • @tylergunnzebra I was waiting for the collaboration album they would inevitably do with Anthony Braxton...

The saddest thing in music history is that that will probably never happen now...

  • kinda dull. id probably appreciate it a lot more if i was there

  • @dayyyyum You don't know anything about anything, fool.

  • @dayyyyum this is art man, take it or leave it, it's anything but dull.

  • this is brilliant. its like a really good 'animal collective' song. weird-Os make the best music.

  • damn, i'm surprised they got their full 7 minutes, i wonder if they even bothered asking the band if they could cut it down to 4 minutes or something

  • people don't know how to appreciate anyone else's creations or preference of styles anymore. music is music. I'm not saying you have to like it, cause obviously no one likes everything, but at least recognize that it's experimentation and creation. where would we be without those things? the stone age.

  • @ashyzeebraah Well said.

  • @ashyzeebraah Well... I agree with your point, but, as an archaeologist, I have to disagree that the stone age didn't have experimentation and creation. Think about it - if there wasn't, we'd still be in the stone age! Sorry, I'm having a break from an essay and it's still on my mind haha

  • @FranzLotus haha what I mean is without experimentation and creation, that is where we would be. but we had and have those things, so we progress, or we're supposed to anyway. no apologies necessary haha.

  • Aaah this is THE jam.

  • @cisaacs7717 Like

  • @cisaacs7717

That's some good music. What? Haven't heard of it? Oh. Well then. Might I direct you to a Miley Cyrus video, right this way....

  • @SkepticH What the fuck is this big bucket of hipster comment.

  • @SkepticH its really obscure, you've probably never heard of it.

  • the only good song ot them ;)

  • this band is just a fail

  • @HEATsessions so are your ears.

  • pure brilliance!!

  • Couple of things:

First off, epic crash angle at 2:39.

2nd, Toby Maguire on bass at 4:00.

  • this is fucking TIGHT, no errors at all.

  • i waited 7.39 for that drummer to miss a beat.....still waiting.

  • SACKBOY! lol! that's how i first heard Battles...i couldn't jump those metal thinggies lol!!

  • @sadiemellow Same. Now I'm a huge Battles fan.

  • Comment removed

  • Hard to think of a better TV performance.

  • Brilliant.

  • Cracking!

  • people who do not like this should do more drugs...

  • @1badass04z

I love this, and I'll never do drugs.

    Yeah, future tense -

    Battles is my drugs.

That said, you're right, of course.

  • @1badass04z Some music is trippier than drugs

    This is no exception

  • @19Supernaut72 Battles is to the ears what weed is to the nose... type " battles live at the empty bottles chicago IL" and click on the video that is 21 minutes... i shitted bricks...and you probably will

  • this isn't music o-o

  • @ziggy2007dn shut the fuck up

  • 7 and a half minutes, and not a second of padding. Fantastic band.

  • Its sad that they don't have the fro head dude anymore. This Album was the good times.

  • wasn't this on little big planet? lmao er..

  • @OmgSoBr00tal

Yep, just read that on wiki.

  • these guys suck so fuckin hard

  • @robertbombino999

    Impossible.

You've clearly made a mistake, you being such a silly ninny and all.

  • @mrfudgeyhead no im right they have no buisness being in the music buisness.....

  • @robertbombino999 At least TRY to back up your retarded opinion, don't just go for the "I'm right so yeah" approach.

  • Mirrored is way better record than Gloss Drop

  • this songs AWESOME!!!!

  • Who let the Gonz on to the microphone, crazy fool...

    BATTLES-YES

  • They've got fucking Striker from that shitty Wolverine movie on drums!!!

  • @thedotpeople Actually they have fucking John Stanier from that fucking awesome Helmet band on drums.

  • @brokenbuzz oh, yeah, because I didn't know that... I mean, I've only been listening to Helmet since the release of "Meantime"...

  • @kevin82485 Hi Kevin, thanx for your comment.Yes you do have a valid point, this could be classed as experimental but I don't think they should receive the media exposure that they do.Clearly its not about talent any more its about what contacts your management has and how big your media budget is.

Buskers have been doing stuff like this with the didgeridoo and other instruments since the 80,s, they are nothing new and so I don't deserve that they have anything new to offer.

  • @rockcityaudio People said the same thing as you about some of the greatest musical artists of all time; however, I'm not saying that this group is destined for greatness. Just that musical tastes and interests evolve from what you might have grown up listening to. I grew up listening to 90s country music. Today's country music is completely unrecognizable from the 60s and 70s let alone the 90s. I don't like country music anymore.

  • @rockcityaudio Talentless??? Really? John Stanier is a madman on the drums! This is why music is so great. Someone's opinion can be completely different from someone else. I love Battles, and I'm sure there's a band that you like that I fucking hate. But you calling the talentless is ignorant.

  • @ZwienerZ They ooze talent and are far outside of the accepted mainstream and the comfort zone of many which is why there are so many making negative comments. The downraters also are probably unsuccessful musicians or have absolutely no idea how difficult it is to perform seamlessly live. they are Ignorant!!

  • This proves there's a very fine line between genius and madness..

  • 42 people hate LBP

  • who needs a cymbal THAT high?

  • @hellohiholaify John Stanier can put his crash wherever he wants it. He is the best drummer on the planet right now. And I'm a Rush fan.

  • @dwarfsid it just seems a bit unnecessary is all, i'm not trolling, because i also think the music is fucking insane.

also, seriously? stanier > peart? nah mate..

  • @hellohiholaify I've seen Rush eight times, starting in 1984. I've seen Battles four times--three with Tyondai, one without (seeing them again in Oct.). Neil is no longer in his prime. Right now, at this moment, I think Stanier is a better drummer. The guy plays DnB-fast, crazily hard, on odd time signatures. He's a bucket of sweat by the end.

Go to the shows. Even if you disagree, you'll have a blast. :)

  • @hellohiholaify I never really got the high crash cymbal either until I saw them live. He doesn't use it as often as most drummers, so it adds a lot of drama and tension to every crash hit.

Also, look at the microphone right beneath the cymbal. By placing the crash that high, it can be mic'ed in a much more direct fashion without the rest of the kit interfering

  • @Panserbjorn wow, never saw it that way hahah, thanks man haha

  • @hellohiholaify I should clarify: the whole microphone bit is just speculation on my part. There's an interview here on youtube where Stanier says he just started placing the cymbal high because he thought it was funny. It works great live, though.

    And you're welcome, ofc. =)

  • Not really

  • The singer really looks like Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf.

  • this made me proud tp be human,

    thanks colin

  • @djangoloughran whith something that not appear to be human

  • Que sexy el baterista

  • @tralalala00 Thanks for that and watched the video - I think only an awesome drummer would put a cymbal up high for a joke. what a legend!

  • motherflippin' epic awesomeness, all you haters...

  • Can someone explain to me why the drummer has the cymbal so high? It makes me confused.

  • @Joshuawardisme It's his style. He thought it was funny. Watch the interview with him on youtube: "Battles Drummer John Stanier Speaks"

  • blah blah blah somehow mention Justin Bieber.

  • Cheesy

  • @HanszIslandTV

totally bro. i'm just way too busy banging hot bitches with my 9" dick to give a fuck about artistic creativity anymore.

  • @ferriterc

does music even need meaning? i mean, sometimes i get swept away in the pure atmosphere and texture of the music, i could care less what it means.

  • @ferriterc, what on earth makes you think this music has no meaning? Things like melody, rhythms, sonic depth, textures, dynamic, and emotional value give music meaning just as much and sometimes more than words to a song (case and point, jazz). Meaning is interpretive.

  • shivers.

  • I love the new album but man, it's so sad seeing Tyondai there... miss him badly. he should get a new album out, that'd cheer me up!

  • I have a respect for people making music for art sake, but when do we get back to music with some meaning?

  • @ferriterc Plenty of music out there with meaning, just gotta look :)

  • @ferriterc Dude, there's a lot of people making music "with meaning" out there, you just haven't heard them yet. Also, this music has a meaning too, it's only that it's not the meaning you're searching for

  • @ferriterc This song totally captivates me

  • @themeatraffle Haha!

  • @themeatraffle Haha!

  • god DAMN Stanier is the man

  • I miss Tyondai :(

  • There is always a need for more cowbell

  • I bet Jools Holland hated every second of this because he couldn't play along with his boogie-woogie piano.

  • @themeatraffle hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • this singer looks like Art Garfunkel

  • this is not genius, it's just a bunch of virgins with too much equipment for their own good

  • @HansIslandTV 'Marry Me Now' is the shittiest piece of shit I've ever heard.

  • @Treefingrs Have a day off son.

  • FUCK YES

  • people won't be people when they hear this sound

  • this is genius

  • Great creativity! Sounds cizool. but not quite my shit.

  • i have never heard anything like this. i don't think i can give it higher praise then that.

  • WEEABOO WEEABOO!

  • I love watching Jools Holland videos, always excellent video production, makes almost every video look like official music videos. That and Battles is an excellent band to see live if you get the chance. The video does not do their live sound much justice.

  • @lblitzer Really? Wow. This video makes them sound pretty amazing as it is! I must go see them.

  • @patchworkpants Yeah, they played at a venue about the size of their set here and their speakers were pretty much on both sides of the stage, making any spot a good one. I do love getting my ears torn apart at shows, and their heavier/louder songs did just that.

  • oh those last 30 seconds. are. just. genius.

  • no, it sounds like a bunch of umpa-lumpas singing and dancing :)

  • This sounds like music that's on every alien's ipod.

  • sounds like a religious ceremony trying to evoke some greater being!

    fucking rad.

  • Stanier is God...

  • The android son of Don Cab

  • @j020se

    tru dat!

  • The android son of Don Cab

  • huge

  • sounds better in LittleBigPlanet! =P

  • @TheRoboSensei fuck off

  • Stainer FTW!

  • pretty sick stuff.

  • 41 people have NO sense of humour

  • John Stanier eats pieces of shit like you for breakfast.

  • @MidiPunk he eats pieces of shit for breakfast?

  • I guess this is so awesome that i can't understand it... Very different.

  • @andre230994 if you give it enough listens you'll fall in love with it

  • This is what Lemmings listen to full blast on their ipods as they march mindlessly off cliffs.

  • @SkinnyJura LEMmings won't be LEMmings when they HEAR this SOund...

  • @SkinnyJura

Thanks for that epic vision!! Laugh my ass off!

  • @SkinnyJura It's soo unfortunate that other forms of music exist outside of your comfort zone. I'm sure when they were writing this as skilled musicians, they had a picture of you hanging above them for inspiration.

  • thanks for posting. WE can't wait to leave you all behind, when it all ends.

  • Chattanooga Choo Choo.

  • Can't believe how good at tapping they both are!

  • @sta0005 especially while playing the keyboard at the same time! amazing!

  • Best way to start a road trip.

  • Going to see them in Glasgow in June. Really want to hear what they sound like without Tyondai.

  • @NotGabeNewell Do you know if anyone replaced him? Can't really imagine it otherwise...

  • Show those bloody redcoats how we rock it in the states. . .

  • Liked & favorited!!!

  • trippy shit!

  • John Steiner is a fucking machine!

  • @revengeguy Don't mean to be a pedant mate but it's John Stainer. Couldn't believe it when I saw this on Jools and thought; "Fuck me, it's Tomahawk's drummer." Still the most original song i've heard in a while and that was 3 years ago.

  • @keaneterpol ever shoot dope to this song?

  • the drummer = beast

  • 6:43

happy lady fixing her hair is happy.

  • @twili47 nice observation skills :P

  • @keaneterpol Not yet and not necessary so far :D

  • stanier outgrew helmet, but helmet had a godd run while he was around, going to see them play meantime album next march

  • After I had this track on repeat for an hour I was sure I could lift a car...

  • @1969fenderjazz That´s beacuse people won´t be people when they hear this sound! ;D

  • Jools Holland is like the most amazing show ever!!! I mean, I have discovered so much good music by watching it , and the bands that are on that show always seem to give their best in their performance... Amazing, just amazing! :)))

  • @keaneterpol ever smoke DMT to this song?

  • That poor drummer must be pooped! He's working harder than anyone else in that band... At least get a drum box for the bass drum and give the poor guy a bit of a rest... No one would know the difference if they used an electronic bass drum beat anyway!

  • @GreatSongwriters

So I guess you've never heard of guys like Flo Monieur and George Kollias...

  • @nicksartino can't forget Nick Barker
