how many bands now adays try to re create the sound of 20 years ago, or a rap song an they sample or record what they played years ago an take credit for items they stole
One of the best solos not included here is Michael Wilton's solo from Queensryche's 'Speak' from Operation:Mindcrime. That whole CD is full of earspank.
Some kick @ss guitar in this video! Why is everyone asking where is this player or that player? There were so many good solos in the 80's it would be hours long. This a really good start! Not a bad solo in there great job ! Love it! Shall the 80's live forever!
Metal solos, why can't guys in bands today play the guitar like this? i agree that those solos are fucking awesome but many many players can play like this today just liste to meldeath solos or something like this... most of em' are freaking impossible
You got that right, why cant they play the guitar like that anymore, give credit to Lynch, at least he didnt fuckup his life with drugs and alcohol enough that he could recover from the 80s, and is still getting it done.
fan of lynch? , hes my favorite guitarist, I like 80s metal but also some deathmetal. This one kid thought i was a fool for liking some of this stuff. He didn't like ozzy for some reason didnt hate him but not a fan of him.
When i hear this solos it makes me determined and pumped and it jsut sounds badass.
Nothing wrong with the list, but there were so many good solos in the 80's. You should consider, making part 2,3,4,5 ect. Akira Takasaki from Loudness is one of the greatest guitar players ever, his solo in "shadows of war" is ridiculous. Ratt had tons of great solos, Motley Crue had some as well.
my top fav bands would have to be 10.Whitesnake 09.W.A.S.P. 08.Accept 07.Loudness 06.Mötley Crüe 05.Great White 04.Scorpions 03.Ratt 02.Van Halen 01.IRON MAIDEN
HUGE argument that he stole evrything from GARY MOORE. Luv em both but would choose gary over him I miss the 80s it was real, it was energenic, no samplin none of this crap TODAY
great selection of solo's however the one obvious solo that was missed was 1980's "I'm all out of Love" by Air Supply, talk about a heavy song that was years ahead of its time.
"why can't guys in bands today play the guitar like this"
We can, we just don't want to. There's plenty of great soloists here, but the only good solos in this vid are from Jake E. Lee. The rest are mindless, flashing scaling from a time that all you had to be was fast to be considered good. One star, only because there's nothing lower.
rap aint killing shit. Its its own thing. What kills rock/heavy metal is lazy fans who have no pride in their music. They sit there whining about everything, even when they get what they want. It just seems to me, rock fans are always finding something new to complain about. You don't see Britney Spears fans whining do you? they support the fuck out of he regardless of what she does. Now if us rock fans can be the same way......redemption.
Metal killed Metal. You all seem to forget how ridiculously bad the second wave of hair bands were. Poisons, Warrants and Trixters and the like were the ones who gave first wave guys like Dokken, Whitesnake, Dio, Ratt and Quiet Riot a bad name. The big four grunge bands werent even grunge beyond their first albums. AiC was never grunge to begin with; they took late 80's hard rock and twisted it into something dark and ethereal
But Nirvana destroyed all your commercial 80s crap with four chords and a chorus-soaked melodic solo. You know why? Because Dio has written two good songs, ever. Because Quiet Riot lost Randy. Because no one important even remembers Ratt. They were all byproducts of the video age, which (as the Pixies put it) killed the radio star. When good music returned, no one cared about fucking Dokken. Bad falsettos and triple-tracked solos are dead, & all the coke in Bolivia couldn't bring them back.
I like both 'grunge' and (first wave) hair metal. Two different reasons...The lyrical content of grunge is a lot more expressive and poetic, uses fewer cliches. 80's metal because I'm a guitar player, its hard to be a guitar player and not like 80's heavy metal because there's TONS of guitar in those songs, so there's a lot to learn as a musician. Listen to Mr. Scary by Dokken or Scream by Dio and tell me that aint a badass song
Scream does kick ass and never heard Mr. Scary. I really figured you knew nothing about Grunge because anyone who doesn't really listen to AiC will kinda call them sellouts (which they kinda are) if they know about their beginnings, so my intent was to piss you off based on that assumption :P.
But you do seem to have taste and know what you're talking about so I guess now i have to listen to Dokken. I'll just go back to my earlier point; every solo in this vid is just flash. (Except Jake)
@Lestatvvvvvv yeah dude, it seems like grunge took all the good humor out of metal that was so necessary. Metal is the comic books of the music world. When it takes itself too seriously, things start to get a lame.
because classic style heavy metal is considered cheesy even by other metalheads. Everyone playing metal now is all about "the BroOtalz" double bass blast beats, muddy sounding 8 string guitars, unmelodic death metal or anything with 'core' at the end of it. I hate metal subgenres. Just give me the regular shit. Maybe some thrash. I like my metal CRUNCHY, not fuckin mashed potato tone like those guys who drop down to B.
did any1 notice that the start of the in my dreams solo is almost exactly the same as the start of evh's beat it solo? lol bu theyre both sweet anyway
nowadays it's all commercialiced.you can thank nirvana for the death of good old 80's metal.coban knew he fucked up thats why he shot himself.the 80's were a blast,i never left the 80's lol.
Actually everyone thought he killed himself because he couldn't stand his music going to use making record companies rich because idiotic consumers like you let music become repetitive, mediocre, commercial crap and buy i anyway. But really Courtney Love had him killed :)
I can't wait to see the hate comments I get for saying that... Metallica blows!
I love RATT but it's kind of funny how they fucked up the term "What goes around comes around". In the song they sing "What comes around goes around" & it is now forever in the minds of all. Just a dumb observation. I really miss those days, the bands, everything & I hope that metal will make a comeback. Thanks for putting your metal collection on here.

Metal solos, why can't guys in bands today play the guitar like this?
That's why this guys growed up in the 60's and 70' or earlyer and they had no playstations, handys, computers and only a very minimal tv. They had time to play guitar!
Its between that and everyone thinks metal is supposed to be the BroOTalz. Stinkin' metal subgenres piss me off. Put the damn 8 string down and learn some friggin' melody!
awesome choices! not much of a Carlos Cavazo fan, but you picked some of not only the best 80's metal solos, but some of the best of all time. MISSING: Metallica, Kirk Hammett "Jump in the Fire"
True, Dave wrote the song, but he never played a single note on "Kill 'Em All' and I doubt he actually wrote the solo. Hammett doesn't get the credit he deserves for being a great shredder and is quite good at writing solos.
hes not quite good at writing solos he uses the same liks in all of his solos but i do give him credit on being able to solo over there songs alot of there songs are cromatic and usually not in a spacific key
Was good at writing solos* Now he just goes throught the same fast chromatic crap again and again. I guess he's as fed up with Lars as everyone else. Metallica blows dog dick for quarters.
man i faved this video a while ago does not get old i also loved the others I wish there was still music and girls tghat looked like this love the 80's look
i agree but Carlos was I think one of the absolute most underrated guitarists of the 80s, great melody as well as shredding. Solo in come on feel the noise is i think one of the best of all time
sorry kid but what you have is a strat knock-off. That guitar is a tiger strat custom made for him by fender. probobly worth closer to 1500 bucks. nice try tho. =P
if youre talking about lynch the original tiger strat was done by himself. i don tthink he has ever had fender custom make one, obviously esp has made tons. but yeah the original tiger was a fender but its one that he did himself in like 78' or something
fuck you you cunt def leppard rules, they never were heavy so how can they sell out. stupid shit. campbell isnt worthy to be in there any way he just wanks off all the time, steve and phil are/were melodic thats the point of def leppard, playing music rather then just showing off. Moron
YOUR A REAL THINKER ARN`T YOU . You can`t deny that fom the mid nintees on all they released was ballad after ballad even Joe Elliot said the record company would`nt touch anthing else and a band as big as Lepard should have done their own thing come on anything after Hysteria was shit . OF course they were a lot hevier than they are now thats not the point anyway thats for 12 year olds they went from a good rock band to a crap pop ballad band super cheese monotone crap YEH LEPARD RULES DUDE!!
what a moron, look at the old hits, hysteria, love bites, bringin on the heartbreak all ballads. Adrenalized is a great album, since then the only songs that are as good as the old ones have been ballads. Plus their new album is totally different to anything they've done before. You just feel insecure listening to anything other then power chords and shred, because you are a pathetic twat. get a clue or fuck off
What makes you asume all I listen to is power chords and shred just because I don`t like sickly cheesy ballads by the way the ones on Hysteria were great dosen`t mean I am insecure about my musical taste I will only like it if it is good noy just because its Lepard . I didn`t say they had`nt ballads in the early days but they mixed them with good rock songs .
reason why you don't hear any soloing like this anymore is because fatass record execs think it's over the publics head... imagine Britney spears trying to deal with a guitar solo in a song,... hahha.. The scorpions had some really bad ass stuff happening for a while, bands like waysted, ozzy, king crimson (not metal but amazing) just disappeared because it was challenging the listeners..... listeners have become more or less lazy...... what a shame
Gosh the sound of those solos... You just don't hear anything like it anymore. I like this music the best, and I didnt even grow up with it, Im only 16. It beats all the new stuff by a longshot, too bad it changed, Id love to grow up listening to great sounds like this and seeing them Live.
All the new stuff is arpeggio crazy enough with the sweep neo classical crap, it is making me ill. In the 80's they went crazy with hammer ons now the sweep, arpeggio crap. PLZ... Enough develope your own style and stop copying.
thats a massive lie. that song came out years after randy died, and was a spontaneous thing-they didnt even want to do the song. so i hardly think that a band would spend 5 years or so planning a cover they dont even like. You really dont have a clue..
Why do people try to say that George Lynch is like Eddy Van Halen? Or is that Don Dokken on guitar? Either way he's better than Eddy no doubt. I think people choose Eddy is because he was around before Don Dokken. But his guitar playing is not better. My opinion of course.
i see alot of people up here saying this is the greatest music ever and all the new stuff is shit and that soloing died with te 80's.
...
no it didn't. i love 80's metal alot, but i like new stuff too. alot of the new stuff tho is heavier than the 80's stuff and it puts off the older ppl. but the new stuff has great leads too...i mean trivium, dethklok, a7x,lambofgod, children of bodom, shadowsfall, coheed and cambria(welcome home ending), nevermore, god forbid, mastodon, atreyu.
A7X sucks except for Synyster Gates, Coheed & Cambria sucks, Atreyu is for emo kids, and Zakk Wylde is gayer than 8 guys fucking 9 guys. Nu Metal sucks ass, and you're giving my generation a bad name. Trivium rocks though.
No, they just try to be heavier jsut because they use the same god damn technique and they're tuned down to like fuckin' D or Drop C. Just because they simply tune down doesn't mean shit.
No, they're heavier because they sound heavier. I don't listen to drop d crap, I'm a standard or half step down guy for the most part, like Hendrix and SRV. And I am telling you they are heavier. Go listen to Disturbed and tell me they aren't heavier. Or keep listening to you Bon Jovi wuss rock or whatever and live in your cave, I really could care less.
this is amazing!!!!!!! im loving the dokken and jake e lee ozzy wasnt that good with zack and dokken lost they're attention when george left i wish the 80s never ended
i don't understand how music died. what happened to these guys. i myself and thousand of dudes out there admire this and i donno about you but i smoke pot, just like then, cause if your gonna live, why not do it high. i've been playing guitar for a while. drugs improved my love for it. like back then. if you wanna feel it and play it. smoke what they smoked. what happened to that decade :( at least i know i still feel the art for what it was. punk killed music. it started goth, emo, etc. fuck
guess what i have no life either....i love to jam on my guitar....i can almost master jake e lees solo "bark at the moon"i rather play lita fords shit.....i guess ill go and 420 and play some more......
Real goth wasn't bad, its all those mall kids that kept changing their mind about what they liked and didn't like. Not to mention people today prefer the more "cute side" of bands. Emo guys look like sissies of course. Metal heads were ugly, but didn't give a shit. And girls aren't attracted to the "loser drug and rock n roll" kind of guys anymore either. So actually corporate America is what killed metal music not the other genres...Well they did to but you know what I mean.
i totally agree. but of coarse looks are gonna change. every ten years it does majorly. i still think the real metal dudes own music. i don't care about the chicks, the media, or what people think. IT'S ABOUT MUSIC! like wtf?! hello people not a fashion show..now so many people hate drugs. but guess how popular it was in the 80s/70s. hmm 'that 70s show' explains it all. those were the times. sure style changed. but that doesn't mean music should die slowly. someone please help me bring it back.
dont worry guys, me and my future band are on our way. the other guys dont know it yet but we are. im opposed to most methods of riffing and soloing of this recent era, although i might like some of it i do not wish to play it. love Dokken, love Dio, love Sabbath, Love the 80's man!!!

Was good at writing solos* Now he just goes throught the same fast chromatic crap again and again. I guess he's as fed up with Lars as everyone else. Metallica blows dog dick for quarters.

jake e lee had some sick! solos with ozzy and carlos cabazo was no randy roads, but was ok
mrparlor 2 years ago
i agree but Carlos was I think one of the absolute most underrated guitarists of the 80s, great melody as well as shredding. Solo in come on feel the noise is i think one of the best of all time
chrisharvey9 2 years ago
this is what solos should be like!! shreding all high on the gutiars!! I hope to holy jesus this come back!
pyrogod90 2 years ago
the problem is...you had to listen to don dokken screech away...to get to lynchs solos..

BeboAltizer 2 years ago
sorry kid but what you have is a strat knock-off. That guitar is a tiger strat custom made for him by fender. probobly worth closer to 1500 bucks. nice try tho. =P
wolfshine 2 years ago
if youre talking about lynch the original tiger strat was done by himself. i don tthink he has ever had fender custom make one, obviously esp has made tons. but yeah the original tiger was a fender but its one that he did himself in like 78' or something

Campbell was a great you just forget how good he was now his balls have been nuttered in Def lepard never seen a band sellout as much a Lepard
ice9001 2 years ago
fuck you you cunt def leppard rules, they never were heavy so how can they sell out. stupid shit. campbell isnt worthy to be in there any way he just wanks off all the time, steve and phil are/were melodic thats the point of def leppard, playing music rather then just showing off. Moron
chrisharvey9 2 years ago
YOUR A REAL THINKER ARN`T YOU . You can`t deny that fom the mid nintees on all they released was ballad after ballad even Joe Elliot said the record company would`nt touch anthing else and a band as big as Lepard should have done their own thing come on anything after Hysteria was shit . OF course they were a lot hevier than they are now thats not the point anyway thats for 12 year olds they went from a good rock band to a crap pop ballad band super cheese monotone crap YEH LEPARD RULES DUDE!!
ice9001 2 years ago
what a moron, look at the old hits, hysteria, love bites, bringin on the heartbreak all ballads. Adrenalized is a great album, since then the only songs that are as good as the old ones have been ballads. Plus their new album is totally different to anything they've done before. You just feel insecure listening to anything other then power chords and shred, because you are a pathetic twat. get a clue or fuck off
chrisharvey9 2 years ago
What makes you asume all I listen to is power chords and shred just because I don`t like sickly cheesy ballads by the way the ones on Hysteria were great dosen`t mean I am insecure about my musical taste I will only like it if it is good noy just because its Lepard . I didn`t say they had`nt ballads in the early days but they mixed them with good rock songs .

reason why you don't hear any soloing like this anymore is because fatass record execs think it's over the publics head... imagine Britney spears trying to deal with a guitar solo in a song,... hahha.. The scorpions had some really bad ass stuff happening for a while, bands like waysted, ozzy, king crimson (not metal but amazing) just disappeared because it was challenging the listeners..... listeners have become more or less lazy...... what a shame
biketopia 2 years ago
Britney soloing hahha....thats funny XD
martingonzo 2 years ago
Lmfao I d love to see britney with a guitar solo, that'd be ass funny as Celine Dion singing Metallica (that really happened btw look it up)

Gosh the sound of those solos... You just don't hear anything like it anymore. I like this music the best, and I didnt even grow up with it, Im only 16. It beats all the new stuff by a longshot, too bad it changed, Id love to grow up listening to great sounds like this and seeing them Live.
tshannon21 3 years ago
All the new stuff is arpeggio crazy enough with the sweep neo classical crap, it is making me ill. In the 80's they went crazy with hammer ons now the sweep, arpeggio crap. PLZ... Enough develope your own style and stop copying.
KilobagKyle 3 years ago
Last in Line solo Kicks ass. The Goddamn video cuts some of the solo out.
caleb11583 3 years ago
Alright, Randy Rhoads originally did the solo to Quiet Riots' cover of Cum on Feel The Noise. not Carlos Cavaza.
6633562 3 years ago
thats a massive lie. that song came out years after randy died, and was a spontaneous thing-they didnt even want to do the song. so i hardly think that a band would spend 5 years or so planning a cover they dont even like. You really dont have a clue..
chrisharvey9 3 years ago
tear it up GEORGE LYNCH-saw him in N.Y.IN2005-TWISTED SISTERS FINAL CONCERT,WHAT A GREAT NIGHT IT WAS!!!!
metalstance07 3 years ago
Why do people try to say that George Lynch is like Eddy Van Halen? Or is that Don Dokken on guitar? Either way he's better than Eddy no doubt. I think people choose Eddy is because he was around before Don Dokken. But his guitar playing is not better. My opinion of course.
Wasp1984 3 years ago
look up new wave american heavy metal.
and dont forget they dont play alot of metal on the radio like they used to. all the older metal is somewhat ...SOMEWHAT...radio freindly
SpadeBag 3 years ago
i see alot of people up here saying this is the greatest music ever and all the new stuff is shit and that soloing died with te 80's.
...
no it didn't. i love 80's metal alot, but i like new stuff too. alot of the new stuff tho is heavier than the 80's stuff and it puts off the older ppl. but the new stuff has great leads too...i mean trivium, dethklok, a7x,lambofgod, children of bodom, shadowsfall, coheed and cambria(welcome home ending), nevermore, god forbid, mastodon, atreyu.
SpadeBag 3 years ago
Dude, these new bands just can't get heavier than what used to be. I intend to bring back what used to be, and make it even better..in the GOOD way.
KissMeImPunk 3 years ago
@KissMelmPunk
They're way heavier. In terms of overdriven guitar, in terms of heavier sounding drums, everything. You iz a douche.
@SpadeBag
A7X sucks except for Synyster Gates, Coheed & Cambria sucks, Atreyu is for emo kids, and Zakk Wylde is gayer than 8 guys fucking 9 guys. Nu Metal sucks ass, and you're giving my generation a bad name. Trivium rocks though.
elysium735 1 year ago
No, they just try to be heavier jsut because they use the same god damn technique and they're tuned down to like fuckin' D or Drop C. Just because they simply tune down doesn't mean shit.
KissMeImPunk 1 year ago
No, they're heavier because they sound heavier. I don't listen to drop d crap, I'm a standard or half step down guy for the most part, like Hendrix and SRV. And I am telling you they are heavier. Go listen to Disturbed and tell me they aren't heavier. Or keep listening to you Bon Jovi wuss rock or whatever and live in your cave, I really could care less.
PS - You're still a douche.

i don't understand how music died. what happened to these guys. i myself and thousand of dudes out there admire this and i donno about you but i smoke pot, just like then, cause if your gonna live, why not do it high. i've been playing guitar for a while. drugs improved my love for it. like back then. if you wanna feel it and play it. smoke what they smoked. what happened to that decade :( at least i know i still feel the art for what it was. punk killed music. it started goth, emo, etc. fuck
IhaveNOlife777 3 years ago 2
guess what i have no life either....i love to jam on my guitar....i can almost master jake e lees solo "bark at the moon"i rather play lita fords shit.....i guess ill go and 420 and play some more......
lokanalea 3 years ago
Real goth wasn't bad, its all those mall kids that kept changing their mind about what they liked and didn't like. Not to mention people today prefer the more "cute side" of bands. Emo guys look like sissies of course. Metal heads were ugly, but didn't give a shit. And girls aren't attracted to the "loser drug and rock n roll" kind of guys anymore either. So actually corporate America is what killed metal music not the other genres...Well they did to but you know what I mean.
Wasp1984 3 years ago
i totally agree. but of coarse looks are gonna change. every ten years it does majorly. i still think the real metal dudes own music. i don't care about the chicks, the media, or what people think.
IhaveNOlife777 3 years ago
You can't kill metal, even in America. Right now there is a thrash band called Warbringer from California that is starting to get known.
