Saturday evening TV really, genuinely, was better back then. I could easily have watched the whole programme of this, I couldn't say the same for whatever shit the BBC'll be putting out this weekend.
What a well-behaved boy that was who got to hold the tarantula. You couldn't trust the youth of today to sit still for five seconds without playing up. This is a really nice clip.
@TheTester121 "Blah, blah, blah, youth of today yadda, yadda, yadda..." Put down your copy of the Daily Mail. How exactly do you think a child born in 2000 would behave compared with a child born in 1980?
"that's a tarantula that eats little boys and things" obviously not listening at all to Chris who less than a minute ealier said they definitely didn't eat humans.
"they live for 7 years before they molt and then they die". Err, no they don't. They molt many times and then die shortly after their final molt. Typically.
Never trust a old man with tinted glasses, in a tracksuit, who hangs around kids, who makes strange noises with is throat. Only kidding, Jim was great. This highlights how innocent TV was back in them days.
Chris Packham was and still is (imho) the loveliest and most handsome man on TV. The passion he has for wildlife is inspirational and... HANG ON A SECOND DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT...?:
#If you wanna give emu a wash, or have Samantha serve you nosh...#
God almighty, they really were scratching their heads over trying to come up with new theme lyrics weren't they?!
I did indeed. At one point I had a collection of over 200. I spend a lot of my time in jungles abroad now, and have possibly discovered a new species of tarantula in the rain forests of Ecuador.
The bastard never got back to me. I was especially peeved when he never wrote back to me After I wanted to Give Catherine Zeta Jones a portion !! GGRRrrrrrrr !!!
I wrote to jim when i was a kid and he didn,t fix it for me..!!!!!!!!

I wrote to Jim asking him to make it possible for me and my brother to sing a song with orville and he never got back to me - I was gutted.

@bichoalder I suppose you do realise that it was secretaries at the BBC that read the letters not actually Jimmy Saville?
I wrote to Esther Ranzen from That's Life and I got a letter back politely saying, "We're not interested."
