  • My old man was fished out of the Atlantic after his ship was torpedoed. Thirty men were lost. Back and forward between Liverpool and the States, with the threat of submarines all the way back. The strain must have been fantastic but these men never broke. They regarded the danger as part of their job. Dad slipped away ten years ago in his bed in Liverpool, so many of his shipmates lie at the bottom of the Atlantic. An unsung hero who just did his best. God rest all of them.
