hey every body has to start somewhere. the thing is he is trying and that is a step in the right direction. i surfed as a kid and a teen. when i joined the army there was no more surfing. i am just getting back into surfing so i imagine i might look kinda silly till i get my groove back. just got a 10' foam board and am waiting for the artist to finish my 8'2" spectrum custom . the first time i surfed a longboard i fell in love. nothing like hangin 10

I deadset luv this. This is exactly how i started back in the early 70's at the same beach (Sth Steyne Manly). I had a clear Dale plank and then a Shane mini Mal / plank thing before i finally got my first short board a tri-stringer McGrigor. Good on you mate! I'm getting a mini-mal soon. Quick tip: don't do that butterfly swim paddle, do one arm at a time. Also, when you paddle for a wave and you feel 50/50 on it keep paddling until you dont have a BIT of a chance to catch it.

I don't know how much surfing you've done in the seven years since you were surfing there. I'm still an amateur but I'll throw out my two cents. You have to commit to the wave. You need to begin paddling sooner and paddle as hard as you can. You improved over the span of the video, so I imagine you're a much more accomplished surfer all these years later. My local waves suck most of the time :(

Im only 11 and im a little bit better than you and my tips are to not use the rails (sides) of the board use the middle to get up. Also when your a little bit better don't ride the white wash ride try to hit the peak of the wave and stand up right before the wave breaks and let it do that under you so you can drop in and get a burst of speed.
