Look, I'm all for safety, but when you've been taught to free climb and you do it all the time, you know how to be safe.

I'll never climb with the bucksqueeze. Been up 90's a bunch of times with out 'em....I'm not changing now. You newbies look to it as a savior because you're afraid to get black and blue sometimes. Notice I said black and blue not broken limbs.
Why not use a Pole Choker 4? I can guarentee you I climb faster than that even when using my choker. You're lucky that this isn't a bigger pole, otherwise you wouldn't be walking again. Put the "tough man" shit behind you and work safe as oppposed to fast.

@johntnjesst i guess someone is coming out with a newer fall arrest device that beats the hell out of the bucksqueeze.... i hate that fuckin thing thats all we could climb with when i was at NLC kills the shit out of your forarms
@drwe57 yea bashlin has a device that is more like freeclimbing. i would get fired if i got caught not using that damn bucksqueeze. Thankfully i still have the old style one. Look up the new style on the buckingham page (even more stuff to gig you up on a pole). I think you can watch the bashlin video under bashlin fall arrest. The company i work for tested an earlier version and went with the bucksqueeze instead.
im at a 2yr linemen EPT program and they wont let us do anything but free climb i love it and we hve had the highest enrollment ever with 46 guys. but 5 have quit lol they fell alot haha
I go to the only vocational (high)school in the u.s. with powerline as a class, half the day (for 2 yrs.) and we only climb with the bucksqueeze and catch hell when free climbing over 10 ft. Yea I agree they should keep it saftey and learn hard
I'm a USAF cable dawg (comm cable an antenna systems journeyman) and i free climb towers and poles both, no hitch hicking either
