A true genius, and Iv'e met this guy t too and spent time with him.One of the nicest guys in the music business. One of the top improvisers for sure. The way he tells his story on a saxophone is incredible and remember what Mr M Brecker said quote " The Bergonz is the only reason I still practice."No higher praise, remember also MB was arguably the next step after Coltraine. For all who want to know his favourite horns are 10ms with links.
Jerry does everything right and he's obviously a grand master, but he just doesn't reach me as much as Michael Brecker used to. Taste is a very subjective thing.
Only kidding!! Hearing Bergonzi creates this feeling of infinite space and possiblity in my head (Trane and Bud Powell have chieved this effect for me as well). He sounds endless free while playing straight ahead. Makes me wish I was living in Boston again.
I feel so blessed to be able to hear Bergonzi on a regular basis here in Massachusetts. Jerry's playing - beauty and brilliance - Galper's trio is great, too! Thank you for posting this.
For those of you who interested in another idea of possible version is the song "FLY ME TO THE MOON" try playing all the things you are on the harmony of this tune and see how wonderful that is.
Jerry was actually in my house today. He said: how you doing?, and than he and my father did go down in the basement to practice for the gig they are having in Oslo tonight.
They play this on Galper's album "Rebop." It's the trio + Bergonzi. They title it "All The Things You Aren't." There's a partial transcription of Galper's solo on his website.
the thought he gives every line, every note he plays even is just incredible. you can tell he really wants to say something with his music. thats what i like in a musician.
Unlike some clip I just saw with Joshua Redman and James Carter, this is all about making music. Gonz is one of the main cats of his generation for sure.
no Conn! This is a Radio Improved (Selmer)
