The bank is FDIC insured. It doesn't matter if the bank fails. The deposits are insured by the full faith and credit of the US Government. Why are these people out there standing in line?
Depends i fthey have accounts over the FDIC limit. Also there's the question of whether they can get the money fast enough to pay bills.
The people can hate on the people who mess up a bank (Like Penn Square in the early 1980s) but it is the average people who bank their money who get screwed over when stuff like this happens. She has right to be pissed off.
The average person does NOT get screwed over when something like this happens. The avg. person does not have over $100,000 in an account. If they did, they should also be able to transfer the overage out of the account online. The money is paid almoost immediately. If they wanted some money for bills, they could have gone to the ATM. The media could have done a better job by informinng people how safe their money was rather than use their fear for ratings.
A lot of people have over 100K in the bank, especially after working for 20+ years to build up their savings.
I agree they should split their acconts but many average people don't think of this.
As for wire transfers, I would guess they'd be barred after a bank failed the same as any others and to get a check from the FDIC payout you'd need to go contact the FDIC people there.
By the way the FDIC raised the limit for payouts to something a bit more than 100K but that was temporary.
What is that mean by bank is FDIC insured? If banks fails, what's got to do with the FDIC insuring the bank's failure? The deposits are insured by the Full Faith and Credit of the US Government? The bank is FDIC insured. It doesn't matter if the bank fails. The deposits are insured by the full faith and credit of the US Government. Why are these people out there standing in line?

Depends i fthey have accounts over the FDIC limit. Also there's the question of whether they can get the money fast enough to pay bills.
The people can hate on the people who mess up a bank (Like Penn Square in the early 1980s) but it is the average people who bank their money who get screwed over when stuff like this happens. She has right to be pissed off.

The average person does NOT get screwed over when something like this happens. The avg. person does not have over $100,000 in an account. If they did, they should also be able to transfer the overage out of the account online. The money is paid almoost immediately. If they wanted some money for bills, they could have gone to the ATM. The media could have done a better job by informinng people how safe their money was rather than use their fear for ratings.

A lot of people have over 100K in the bank, especially after working for 20+ years to build up their savings.
I agree they should split their acconts but many average people don't think of this.
As for wire transfers, I would guess they'd be barred after a bank failed the same as any others and to get a check from the FDIC payout you'd need to go contact the FDIC people there.
By the way the FDIC raised the limit for payouts to something a bit more than 100K but that was temporary.

What is that mean by bank is FDIC insured? If banks fails, what's got to do with the FDIC insuring the bank's failure? The deposits are insured by the Full Faith and Credit of the US Government? How could we assure this, if government cannot stop the failing economic crisis? Back by full faith of the government, is that mean government has a liquid assets on their hand already before such bank would go bankrupt? How is that working to the failing bank and a depositors of the bank. I dont get it.

to gearzone2611: FDIC is the :"Federal Deposit Insurance corporation" insures the "deposits" but not the bank itself. FDIC keeps a certain amount of money set aside just for this kind of event. Before there was FDIC if a bank went under you lost all your cash....forever. Like what happened in the great depression of the 1930s. BUT....here is the problem...what will happen when FDIC runs out of funds from bailing all the banks out.....
