Just remember that Zakk Wylde was moved by this great song too. Obviously, he put it on one of his albums. Both versions are great. Stop fighting about which version is better. It really doesn't matter! Just listen to what moves YOU and leave the rest behind! Have an amazing life.
I just want to say one thing considering all the comments about the BLS cover:
A cover can never be better than the original track because of the obvious - it's no more than a cover. It's unoriginal and is not done the way the original author wanted it to be done.
And you can try to polish a turd as much as you want - the cover can be done with an Orchestra as far as I'm concerned. It will always be a futile attempt to recreate something unique.
Never heard of BLS, but after reading the comments I listened to their version of this song. You'all are smoking some really good chit if you think BLS is better.
steve gaines was an amzing guitar player and song writer, i never see him get any credit, its always gary and allen, but i think he was the best of the 3. just saying. this was his song before he joined skynyrd and he let ronnie make it better with his vocals. R.I.P. lost members of skynyrd
@muscletruckdude I appreciate that comment. Steve Gaines is my favorite musician. For my eighteenth birthday my Mom bought me a $1,500 tattoo of Steve on my right calf done by world renown tattooist Tom Renshaw. I play Steve's music everyday and have been practicing this song for almost a year. I'm not sure Steve wrote this song before he joined Skynyrd in 1976 but I agree with everything else you said. I'll have to ask Gene Odom about that one. Take it easy.
@muscletruckdude Are you a Fucken Retard or what,You dont see Steve get any credit,Fuck ! Look at the Street Survivours Sleeve,4 tracks from 8 have Steve`s name on it.
@2000tc88 dont sit here and call names over the internet. im sick of people who get brave behind a computer screen and say stuff they would never say in person so shut your mouth. but i wasnt referring to writing credits, i was talking about the talking. everybody always mentions gary and allen more than steve and thats what i meant.
This is one of my alltime LS favs. It's even harder to believe that this fatalistic album cover was 33 years ago. Of the seven members featured, only Gary Rossington and Artemis Pyle remain. I love the way Allen Collins and Gary trade guitar licks in the intro. . .a bit like sirens wailing. . but that's the brilliance they had between them. It's sad to see them disappear one by one but LS music will never die. Others may copy it but these guys WERE it.
sounds like a time i went thru in my life. my all time favorite of all couldnt said it better myself.I STILL LOVE AND MISS THAT WOMAN MAYBE ITS NOT WHAT I SAID ITS WHAT I DIDNT SAY/
Thumbs up if Black Label Society Lead your way !

am i going mad or did I hear 'oh yeah' just before the solo? I've been listening to this song for years and I've never spotted that before

without this version, zakks would never be around, enough said
Seplophobia0 3 months ago
Both versions are great, but i feel that zakk pulled more emotional drive on the subject of the song by useing minors and makeing the song sound sad.

Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70's was one of the few bands where one could put any side of any album on the turn table and it would be great!

@muscletruckdude Whatever!,you said,and I quote"I never SEE him get any credit"
You did`nt use the word HEAR,how would I or anyone else know you were talking about Talking about him.
Ok I`ll apologise for the name calling but I stand by the rest of what I said.
I`m sick of people who dont write exactly what they mean and expect people to guess what they are talking about.
Nuff Said.
