  • Thank you, Adagiosoulb4flesh!

  • all i can say is mama.my sweet mama.miss you is not enough to explain how i feel but i know that it hurts.it hurts.it hurts.send me a warm smile down from heaven every now and then the way you use to when i walked up onto your porch.

  • "Oh, you know you know, that it falls like rain". I hate how wrong lyrics are posted on the internet. It's amazing how some lyrics are so messed up. I had this song memorized when I was 7, correctly. I did it the old school way. Put your ear up to the speaker to make out the hard to understand parts. This is my favorite Chi-Lites song.

  • @Oristiumpier Or you could go to the liner notes. My brother used to follow the song and corrected the words to the song from what he heard the musicians sing on the record. A great example of much of an album's word change was EWF's "Spirit". Bro wrote all over that liner correcting it.

  • They don't make 'em like this no more. There are good songs today. However, they don't make songs LIKE THIS no more.

  • I just lost my father a few weeks ago. I live in Minnesota and had to fly back to NYC for his funeral-we just buried him on Monday. Now I'm back in Minnesota all alone, and this song captures exactly how I feel.

  • @thatkoolkatal Everything will be allright. I feel like thisAlmost everyday. Somehow, I find some strength to go on, knwing that I will be allright and also knowing that I wil help other, as well. Take care and hold that head up. You will see your father, again. And it doesn't matter what religion you have. There seems to be a general belief that death is not the end. And I feel that way.

  • @thatkoolkatal You are not alone I lost my dad 14yrs ago. I told my mother that I missed him asking him questions and he would answer me the best that he could. And with wisdom. She told me if he had a choice to come back he would not want to. I said I understand. This not our home. Time will heal you.

  • Chicago, 1972, WSDM and this absolutely fantastic song, they'll stick with me always. Every once in a great while a song comes along and you have to ask yourself, how in the hell did someone come up with this. This one is a prime example.

  • This song hurts and brings back sweet reminders of my dear sweet mother DIANN T KING. the lost of this wonderful woman will always be with me, but her love of good music like this song. takes me back to when she was here.I LOVE YOU MOMMA

  • I can truly say that I have lived the very essence of the lyrics of this song when the love of my life and I met experienced a relationship and broke up, when I look back on it all I can only say that they were "The Coldest Days of My Life"

  • this music makes me feel so good because its real and it makes me realize that life is all about to love and be loved. thank you.

  • Just how i feel right about now :(

  • This great song & I go way back, but lately It reminds me of my homeless days, wandering around far & forgotten..They were the Coldddddest days of my life.

  • This song brings me back when i was in zipup pjs and my mother, rest her soul used to play this. Now my kids r laying around n pjs and im playing it.

  • As I approach my sixth decade, this song still pulls out memories of lost loves and reminds me of that youthful confidence and powerful emotions when everything was either black/white, good/bad, happy/excruciatingly sad. Fabulous mood song.

  • Love this song. Takes me back to the love I lost but oh well, Im still alive. Ha cant look nowhere but up. Miss you baby doll, wish I couldve changed things.

  • Is it just me or does that guy on the right look like the detective from Barney Miller?

  • I love you for submitting this song...my friends and family thank you very much.....

  • Bliss pure bliss. Thank you for the wonderful memories

  • HAUNTING melody and lyrics!

  • I love this song.

  • yeah, I remember those day...

  • SLIM (75) LOVES THIS SONG FROM BACK IN THE DAY

  • Who wrote the Chi-Lites music?

  • BEST... BREAK-UP.....SONG.... EVER!!!

  • Goobye our John....The coldest days of my life!

  • I GIVE THIS SONG TO MY GIRl CHRIS P. FROM D-C

  • The memories......

  • Great song !!!!! Great memories !!!!!

  • Such a beautiful and beautifully sung and orchestrated song. It is in a class by itself and so are the Chi-lites! And yes it is so haunting.

  • I love the Chicago sound, everyone raves about the Philly and Detroit music makers,Chicago does not have to take a back seat to any city.I grew up listening to Joe Williams(the Stairway way to the stars) on the west side, the music bars along 61st and 63rd street,oh those were the days great artist wonderful music, pop, jazz, bop, legandary artist performed at the mecca for music the Rergal theater on 47th and South ParkWay before it was changed to Kings Way.

  • Miss Eugene Record!!! He was a very underrated and underappreciated songwriter. He and Barbara Acklin wrote some beautiful music for this group. This song is so haunting but true. Miss this song today instead of the junk they play now that they have hooked this generation hooked on!!!!

  • LINDA CANÇÃO!!!!!!!!!!!BRASIL

  • este, video com esta musica e fabulosa,do fundo da alma ,a gente entra em outros mundos espirituais.

  • @hoover7576 Yes, I believe when we die we are reunited with our loved ones, hang in there. I'm a mother of three and have always told my kids, (my youngest is nine) that I want this song played at my funeral services. Take care.

  • this was the B side to the the record 'its time for love' this should have been a double A side both songs were fantastic

  • Eugene Record was very underrated! God bless him and I wish he was writing for these artists these days

  • this is when music was real music, no pretense jus stepped to the mike with real talent.

  • @taijza15 sorry you dont think we make real music anymore, guess i'm just a talentless hack who arranges notes on a computer monitor

  • @taijza15 I believe Eugene to have been a great song writer as well as a great singer...powerful stuff isnt it

  • this is when music was real music,

  • I was too young to get it then ....do now. Coldest day? When my Nana died then my daddy life was a drag for the longest.

  • Played this one to death! Heart strings lol.

  • If we could get rid of religion and politics... this would be a awesome world. Not perfect but so much better... less hate.

  • Those were the best of times. God, where are we headed?

  • @lynettereid yeah my big sis played this all the time too ,and when i hear it i think the same as you....

  • I'm 65, been in 3 wars, had great girlfriends, 3 wives, 2 divorces. 2 daughters died young. Me; fatherless, Mom died discarded in my arms. I've no more family, friends. Tortured by Latino drug traffickrs, 11 surgeries; I've had a life of coldest days. The song softly moves with recollections of loved ones gone. Too many failures; scars, a crushed body and barren soul, and when I think it's over; at 60, I love a girl, 20. We marry, and we have a lovely baby. Now I can sing and smile again.

  • @GetalifeLuzer Wow dude, if you're moved by this fine recording, then your heart still works. God bless.

  • @GetalifeLuzer Coldest Days became your Warmest Days because you did not give up. God does have a plan for each of us. Continue blessing to you and family.

  • Great Song! I first heard it at a fraternity party in 1971 at Bowling Green State Univ. Brings back good memories of the brothers and the ladies in our lives. The Chi-Lites will live on forever in our minds and hearts.

  • Great Music it brings you close to what Love feels like

  • it was a great time!

  • Singers with this angleletic voice has inspires me to keep searching for the ones that has left this world and hoping that someday I too will be with them!

  • one of the great r&b songs.....you are just sitting next to Eugene Record as he is telling his story.....he feels that loss and makes you feel it too!

  • it's funny, their best songs were about loss and sadness

  • @jody808

  • Now this is some real music; it touches the soul, the heart, the love baby. Damn, why does my generation suck the big one? I'm barely twenty and I can't stand what my peers listen to. But this, this is the stuff of legends; sounds that will never die for true lovers of music.

  • When the one you love, the one you have given your heart to drops you like a payload.... your days are cold, and you never know when you will see sunshine after the rain. I am thankful that these gentlemen from Chicago produced this song because just like it helped me back in the 70's it helped me in 2005....Oldies never die and they do not lie.... Todays music would have probably sent me into deep depression. Not this, hell no, it just gave me hope to go on.

  • Instant Replay 17 more minutes of smoooooooth

  • Instant replay 17 minutes of smooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooov

  • Oh Delores~~ where are you now??? We had it all, but we got away....

  • Don't it just take you back? Forget about the bad times, only feel the good times~~~

  • I love that line "Lord Take Away The Pain!"

  • sad but sweet tune. I used to play this loud in my car back in 1994.

  • This song always moves me to tears. I've been there.

  • This is how we rolled in the early 70's...what musical legacy is this current generation leaving behind? Well, thank goodness for youtube.

  • This used to be the song I always played after a breakup....always made me feel better.

  • Real music for real feelings, back when orchestras, not synthesizers backed the singers. You had tears in your eyes for the song, the sentiment and those things that happened in your life that broke your own heart. It is a shame that these types of songs, and this singing style have fallen by the wayside. Much love to those who remember and post them, like you, Adagio. I'm a young girl again, in love and in the arms of the man who was my world. Hope you can hear this in heaven, baby. Love you.

  • THIS SOUND EXACTLY LIKE WRITE A LETTER

  • This is from my time, the time when men and women really loved each other and crashed and burned too. when you went through it you got to the other side, this music helped you get there. i remember this song too well. I cried and had good reason to, my heart was broken, I was oh so alone and this came through the air waves. Blew my mind.... and still does..... I thought there was no other, I had to run for cover.

    Thanks for posting this.

Life is hard just by it's self and then another son of a mother goat gets in the mix. There going to be some Church song singing and flower bringing "Ya Herd Me" (Curtis Payne) Yes Sir.

  • so glad my mom tought me this music i loveso much grew up with it as a little kid now if i listen to it at school people think i'm wierd =/ and listen to there stupid techno

  • The Maestro Mr. Eugene Record. How'd they get that rushing water, blowing wind and chirping birds in the mix? Amazing to me, just a few days work at the studio for the Maestro and friends. First heard this song back in mid 70's. Nobody but a musical wizard could compose a piece like this. Thanks for posting.

  • Takes me back to the "coldest days of my life"...wow! The power of music!

  • I just heard this on the radio 4 the first time of my life and fell directly in love with it.

  • August, 1972! Preseason training camp for the Cincinnati Bengals in Wilmington, Oh. Bill Walsh would tell the other rookies, "Watch how Porter runs his routes"; Paul Brown would Say, "The more you can do Porter!". I was going to make the team! Then, during specialist practice, I tore my ACL-no scope surgery then, you got cut open! Decided against it. I listened to The Chi-Lites, "The Coldest Days of My Life" all the way back to Louisville!

  • How could I forget the Isleys? I went to their concert in L.A. back in the 70's. There must have been over 200 artists and groups (R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Jazz-Funk). Some were suppose to be Rock but played some jazz (Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Rare Earth ) I count Tower of Power and Average White Band as R&B (like Rufus & Chaka Khan). Man, the concerts memories; flooding back. (I didn't smoke but had "contact". Remember that word?) Tried to go to every one but simply ran out of cash.

  • It was the 1970's, the music was being performed by such artists as The Dells, Delfonics, The Main Ingredient, Friends of Distinction, Staple Singers, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Intruders, Martha & the Vandellas, Aretha, Stevie, EWF and more than can be mentioned in this small area. The great lyrics, the incredible vocals; it was the right music for the right time. We didn't know how good we had it. thanks for this post those like it. It brought back great memories. Lord, take away the pain.

  • @doc2skate you forgot to say the greatest band of all the ISLEY BOTHERS dude i'm with you all the way on this one. what a tune.

  • @andrew8856

  • @doc2skate And those of us who grew up with these great artists and all the others too numerous to mention will always have a loyal attachment to the music because it exemplified true talent. Often the love songs were heart-wrenching (as this one is) and spoke to our being in our young lives. Yes, excellent r&b/soul/ andsmooth soul defined the 1970's for a certain generation.

  • A very haunting ballad. I thinl this was one of Eugene Records best production. The orchestral arrangemnent in the background is genius.

  • It is hard sometimes when your in love or out of love we all need it. "Stay warm my friend"

  • Dam! This is what the young bloods call old school but what I call music. Thoses were the days. Beautiful song. Listen to the lyrics.

  • The first minute while this thing is just winding up, could not sound cooler.

  • @takemeback2 I'm not sure if its violins or horns but whatever it is, you're right. That first minute or so is face melting

  • Awsome song!!!!!

  • When we were locked up as juveniles, we would get the "it's over" letters and this would play and the boo-hoo's would erupt!

  • In my opinion their greatest jam, saw them with the Chicago Revue first time ever at the Howard Theater in DC in 1968, headliner was Gene Chandler, also on the show was Barbara Acklin loves makes a woman was her monster hit at the time, Lee Charles, Artistics, Chilites and I believe someone else. great show. Gene was the man. Eugene an understated genius, what a wordsmith

  • born in 69 and doing time behind californias finest walls really had a good mans thoughts down until we got the chance to hear music like this to help us through them hard times that had the chance to bring us down

  • Sentimental lyrics

  • If ever you have loved and lost, then you know how this and "Letter to Myself" can touch just to close to home to have the lights on.

Man, what I had dreamed of....... They were the coldest days of my life

  • i feel you on that, i wasn't born yet but my daddy always play these jams and i love them i'm ol'skool and i'm only 29 but i can relate to what the singer is sayin in his song. i remember when it was cold outside and i was on the outside looking in, she was the best woman i ever met and she left me but she's all i ever think of and right now i'm so cold right now and now i'm running cover. these songs need their own radio station with no interuptions. but i will get her back hopefully

This is a favorite that brings back memories pleasant of not the song spoke truth. Enjoy Mr Miles, I am 56 so we know what music use to sound like.
