yeah buffy did always love spike i dont think she wouldve gone though all the things theyve been though and not in the end not love him . but i dont think angel was the reason that her and spike couldnt be together . but i cryed so hard though the whole show . i hope she gets with spike somehow he desvers it and had to deser the i loveyou too and he did it that moment . i love this show and wish spike got his own show not angel ! :) good job all most cryed aging but didnt .
I think in the end Buffy loved Spike more than she loved Angel and Riley put together, she always went to Spike for everything, always!, he was the first person she turned to, and he was always watching her back, if you watch carefully for Buffy all roads led to Spike,their connection was powerful,intense and passionate, it may have taken her till the end to realise it but she did, i have no doubt.How many opportunities did she have to kill Spike? hundreds but she never did, wonder why?
Spike dies but in angel series 5 angel gets the amulet and spike gets ressurected and he is in it for the last sesson and the last episode leavs you with a cliffhanger =)
how can you say she didnt love him did you see the way she was with spike in the whole season 7 how she looked at him with love in her eyes, especially when she rescued him from the Turok-Han, i believe the moment buffy's hand touched spikes in chosen, thats when she realised her true feelings for him.
The thing that i love about spike is that he sees through people very easily. Yes, buffy did say "i love you" but spike knew, deep down inside she wasn't in love with him. Hence the ever famous" no you DONT, but thanks anyways" right there he shows how awesome he is in seeing right through people .

Buffy love Spike but she affraid by this idea. She has difficulty to said it. And when she understand that Spike make his own sacrifice, and she will die, she is really herself with her really feeling for the first time.
Finnally, I'm sure that the scene don't show that she don't love him. Buffy is not a person who show her feelings easily. Her relationship with Angel is very different that her relationship with Spike. So it's easier for her to show her feeling at Angel that with Spike. Her relationship with Angel is sweet; Angel is the prince charming slayer. He is reassuring's love. In contrary her relationship with Spike is very strange; they love together but it's different.
Now, I don't know if she loves Angel father than Spike. I'm not sure the scene show that Buffy don't love Spike because she said at Giles that she understand that we must make sacrifice even if we loves this person. Joss even told them both to play the romance in this scene. I love this scene so much and still cry buckets.

What a load of shit. . .I am pretty sure confessing your love to someone, as they were about to die, after you were finally able to come to terms with loving them, would feel very strained. Buffy did have feelings 4 Spike but her heart belonged to Angel. Buffy did not want Spike to die and i knew she would miss him but she only said she loved him becuz he was going 2 die. the illest part to me about this scene is earlier in season 7 the First says to Spike, "one day she'll tell you" which she did here. Great storytelling by Joss & company...

@finallysometruth The only thing missing were the words, but we know how difficult it is for adult Buffy to get those words out. (Remember she never told it to Riley; and she only says it to Dawn and her friends - Xander, Giles - on rare occasions, and with a lot of effort). This is not the bubbly teenage Buffy, eager for romance. This is someone who has suffered and become hardened and lonely and closed down. She *never* says 'I love you' without meaning it.
... And then she finally gets those words out... ("he's in my heart" told to Angel... and "I love you" to Spike) and she's still not believed?
Which is really the saddest thing of all... that Spike did not believe at that point that she could love him... But maybe that's the price of all her denials over the time.

If they only meant it in romantic sense when they say the former, then there would be very few love scenes in any movies or TV shows. @finallysometruth Even though she knew that he could - and had - hurt her, she trusted that the still *soulless* Spike would never hurt Dawn; and was concerned when she heard that he had left town (after the AR - on the whole, her attitude was quite forgiving). Throughout S7, she was protecting him, saving him, taking care of him, relying on him, spurring him on to be a better man, trusting him more than anyone

@finallysometruth The only thing missing were the words, but we know how difficult it is for adult Buffy to get those words out. (Remember she never told it to Riley; and she only says it to Dawn and her friends - Xander, Giles - on rare occasions, and with a lot of effort). This is not the bubbly teenage Buffy, eager for romance. This is someone who has suffered and become hardened and lonely and closed down. She *never* says 'I love you' without meaning it.

Which is really the saddest thing of all... that Spike did not believe at that point that she could love him... But maybe that's the price of all her denials over the time.

If they only meant it in romantic sense when they say the former, then there would be very few love scenes in any movies or TV shows. It's a completely ridiculous argument, and by that logic, you have to argue that Buffy was never in love with Angel, either, since she never told him "I am in love with you".

All I did was point out that love has many forms and applications, and when analysing these things people have an irritating tendency to forget that and assume the purely romantic. From your disproportionate response, I can only assume that (a) you're really angry about something else, or (b) you're just looking for a fight. Or both. Either way, not my problem.

@finallysometruth Well, it's not exactly that. Not everything is involved on the show. I mean, you will never know the true moment (if she loved him) unless you the book or if you ask one of the people on set. Sarah's just acting so there's no telling what her face was supposed to mean....

Its unknown on if spike believed her(most likely not, whats with her shooting him down for 3 seasons total), but IMO, season 7 was all about Buffy coming to terms with certain facts about her own life. It was a sad sad journey of her accepting her own alone path, but there were also good facts she accepted. One of those facts were, obviously, her feelings for Spike

@finallysometruth I still think Buffy loved Spike, and she knew that deep down and she only just realized she loved him. Yes she does still have feelings for Angel but Spike and Buffy always had something even if it was hidden. I think he only said "no you don't, but thanks for saying it" was to make it easier on both of them, but they both love each other very much. But Spike loves Buffy more because he loved her with and without his soul <3
